As the last thread filled up & there's plenty of discussion of Meghan's interview in The Cut, seems worthwhile starting a new thread!

A read yesterday that a series of media interviews are planned to promote the podcasts. Should be very interesting if The Cut interview is anything to go by!

I don’t think Harry could mannipulate Meghan as she is the one with the brains. He could have helped her more but again she is the one with the education and brains and understanding of the real world.

She didn’t need to know about the real world. She needed to know about the frankly weird royal world. He should have done a hell of a lot more but he strikes me as someone who’s fairly dim and thoughtless

It is the ancient racist trope of the black temptress stealing away the white woman's man. Harry was the people's prince, and a lot of obsessed royalists still cannot accept the fact that he chose a woman of colour, and not just that, one who is confident and outspoken. If they straight out declared that she used some sort of voodoo spell on him they'd be called crazy, so instead they come up with this narrative that she's a narcissist who has gaslit him into a relationship and now he's too isolated to escape.

The only ancient trope here is that MM is a good, old-fashioned champagne socialist playing at inequality. It's better to be honest about the fact that you are not going to do anything about it (RF) than pretend that you are to people who believe in you (H & M).

SueSaid · 30/08/2022 15:39

'And in the meantime, the tabloids keep talking about Harry and Meghan.'

Because they keep sneering and harping on about the rf. Selling their gripes to the highest bidder.

Just move on fgs, change the record. They need to grow up and show their kids how to do positivity and kindness.

LondonWolf · 30/08/2022 15:39

Thanks for your illuminating contribution!

You're welcome. I am afraid It was all your rather odd assertions, on a thread full of women, some of whom are black, discussing an article written by a black woman about a mixed race woman were worth tbh. I'd usually expand but I have learned that robust rejection of these kind of bad faith, unfounded accusations is the best route to take.

This has literally nothing to do with what I was saying or what the person I was responding to was saying, but thanks for your response I guess?

You feel protective of a family taking enormous wealth resources while the rest of the country faces serious problems? This is wrong.

I understand why Parliamentary monarchies can be a choice instead of a republic, but there is no way I need to protect billionaires, who made their wealth on the back of taxpayers, to keep their wealth in offshore accounts. It boggles my mind that no one in the press in the UK followed the amount of money the BRF have in fiscal paradises when the Pandora files were released.

And in the meantime, the tabloids keep talking about Harry and Meghan.

This can't be easy for them. There are consumate material advantages to their lives. I really wouldn't want to be them though. Would you? And if i was much more a Zara phillips on th3 periphery.

MeridianB · 30/08/2022 15:41

Meghan clearly likes to talk. So this journalist just let her talk a lot and was probably stunned when the things we’ve all read we’re not edited out.

I get the sense Meghan was given plenty of rope here and then her and her PR flunkies were too daft to see the finished version for what the embarrassing cringe fest it is. I guess that happens if you create your own world full of nonsense. You lose perspective.

What these two self-absorbed clowns have done to the Queen is unforgivable. I’d live them to both go off and live the very private lives they claim they wanted.

There was nothing bad faith about my post. I was replying to someone who couldn't understand why so many people call Harry 'trapped' with my opinion on how from a cultural and historical viewpoint they might have arrived at that viewpoint. It's fine to not agree with it but to outright call it crap is a pretty rude response.

sunshinesupermum · 30/08/2022 15:49

I wonder if she’s reached that stage of celebrity when nobody around you will tell you you’re wrong or criticise anything you do. It’s a dangerous and unhealthy place to be.

I think she reached this place ages ago, even while still in the UK.

LondonWolf · 30/08/2022 15:49

Of course they're linked, that that you can't see how they're linked and are not aware of the strongly supported argument that classism is so often mistaken (purposely these days?) for racism shows that your argument is unbalanced.

I think constantly telling people they're racist knowing it is a sure fire way to control the discussion is far, far worse than rudeness tbh.

JudgeJ · 30/08/2022 15:50

Say what? So people who have used the word niggled for things that's annoyed them, like my belly has a niggling pain are unconsciously racist?

I heard the word niggled many years before the other one! Why do people go to so much trouble to winkle race into everything? Should Nigeria and Niger change their names, just in case they offend? I'll never get a Pointless if Niger isn't allowed!

headstone · 30/08/2022 15:54

LittleBearPad Meghan is the educated one, she could have researched it, there is alot of literature to give an idea at least. Expecting nice but dim Harry to explain clearly his world to her when he has no concept of the real world is optimistic at best. She may well have been given coaching from better sources.

TrashyPanda · 30/08/2022 15:57

notanotheroneagain · 30/08/2022 14:11

They would be offended if they know you have a history of bashing them and taking a pop.

Black people have a history of being compared to animals.

It is journalist duty to watch the words they use and how they use them to whom. They also know how to twist, and which words can be of influence.

Anyway, you know what. Most posters have already made up their minds that H&M are villains. So will leave you to it and go join the millions who are open to listening to them and enjoy the Mariah episode.

Cheers.

You are wilfully missing the point.

KatherineSwynford1403 · 30/08/2022 15:57

Any coincidence that this stuff has come out at the same time as the 25th anniversary of her mother-in-law's death? Surely not!

JudgeJ · 30/08/2022 15:58

AuntiePasti · 30/08/2022 14:05

Oh, to be a fly on the stable wall round at Gatcombe Park...

Oh yes, that's one £1000 ticket I wouldn't mind, not the Manchester ego-fest, Anne and Zara unchained, it would be great. Mike Tindall looked ready to punch Harry outside the Abbey after the Jubilee service, totally blanked him.

MaulPerton · 30/08/2022 14:12

MM just isn’t relevant now - we were only interested if she was going to be a member of the Royal Family. She doesn’t have anything news worthy so her interviews etc are filled with snippets of the one thing that made her interesting

Gwyneth Paltrow and the Kardashians are just some who have 'made it' on the back of controversy and outrage, so MM is probably trying to do the same, as we can see now. Once the brand becomes self-sustaining, she will no longer need the RF. I didn't believe that the Kardashians or Gwyneth Paltrow had enough of anything to make them interesting but I was wrong.

Gwyneth is a good actress, recognised as such by her peers as well as the public and she has had some fabulous roles.

plus she married a man who is talented and made his own money.

MM - not so much.

Roussette · 30/08/2022 16:02

I suppose we're going to be subjected to a minimum of 12 weeks of this, given that I think she is doing 12 podcasts.

So all the names under the sun are going to come out .... there should be a game called "Think of a new insult or name to call Harry & Meghan" because the same ones are being used over and over.

We've had thick as mince, twat, vapid, narcissist, dim, self absorbed clowns (and that's just on the last two pages out of 15)
Very unpleasant, and certainly not discussion on a forum but I suppose for some, it makes them feel good?

I liked the Serena interview (I love Serena) but haven't had a chance to listen to Mariah yet.
Well received in some quarters. Obviously not on these threads.

Okay then. It’s all about her part black heritage , nothing she’s done or said. Yawn.

CPL593H · 30/08/2022 16:05

I actually hold Harry most responsible for what has gone down, having been born royal and knowing the score. Diana (aristocrat, brought up in proximity to them) and Fergie (more outer circle but still attached) both had a horrible time at points and big problems adjusting. Kate seems to be coping better, so perhaps the long relationship before marriage was very wise.

I think Meghan may not have been quite as much in the dark about all matters RF/who Harry was as she originally made out, but reading a few books etc could never be enough preparation. This is all before any question of personality is considered. Like many others, I had the highest hopes for her and them as a couple and what they could achieve. I'm not convinced what they are currently doing is in any way going to get them back on course as philanthropists/leaders/figureheads of any sort of world changing effect, and that does appear to be what they want to be, at least seen as.

So bringing in an unrelated point around classism when I was talking about a very specific and well documented type of racist trope is 'balanced' but discussion of said racist trope is bad faith and worse than outright rudeness? Got it. I'm beginning to think the bad faith accusation is merely projection on your part.

"Niggle" is a very common word here, not a choice but the word to describe something annoying. To suggest that dialect is racist is really offensive and extremely ignorant.

Doing a search for the latest tweets using niggle makes this clear - tens and tens of tweets from today alone, the vast majority being with a wide spread of people discussing footballers with minor injury issues.

Google 'NHS' and 'niggles'. It's in loads of British NHS documents, from problem-solving protocols to symptom collection pathways.

Okay then. It’s all about her part black heritage , nothing she’s done or said. Yawn.

My point wasn't about Meghan, it was about the thousands of people who have have never sought to question why they feel the way they do about this woman and why they are so utterly invested in painting her as a villain. It is a mixture of racist and misogynistic tropes, relentless negative media coverage in their chosen publications, and validation from others who seek out socialisation on the internet and who congregate in places that allow misinformation to go unchecked.

Ohnonevermind · 30/08/2022 16:19

Meghan is the democratic Trump, let’s see if the left fall for it as easily as the right fell for Trump

Or the thousands who simply think she’s talking shite. It can literally boil down to something as simple as that.
