As the last thread filled up & there's plenty of discussion of Meghan's interview in The Cut, seems worthwhile starting a new thread!

A read yesterday that a series of media interviews are planned to promote the podcasts. Should be very interesting if The Cut interview is anything to go by!

My point wasn't about Meghan, it was about the thousands of people who have have never sought to question why they feel the way they do about this woman and why they are so utterly invested in painting her as a villain. It is a mixture of racist and misogynistic tropes, relentless negative media coverage in their chosen publications, and validation from others who seek out socialisation on the internet and who congregate in places that allow misinformation to go unchecked.

You have put it so well @amyneedssleep
Totally agree.

Its probably because she constantly seeks out the limelight though her celebrity marriage and makes improbable self aggrandising claims, such as her most recent comparing herself to Nelson Mandela. hth.

If you yourself, for whatever reasons, are unusually dazzled by celebrity or fame, then perhaps that provides the answer to your question.

thousands of people who have have never sought to question why they feel the way they do about this woman

If you read this thread and previous one, you’ll see that most people are questioning why they feel this way about Meghan. It’s not an unthinking prejudice based on her race. Rather it is based on what
comes out of her own mouth, and her actions.

If Meghan was a white aristocrat, would the utter nonsense she speaks and her bitter rage against the RF be more palatable do you think? I would venture to suggest that if M were white the criticism would be much much more vocal.

Or the thousands who simply think she’s talking shite. It can literally boil down to something as simple as that.

There's lots of famous people who talk utter shite but I don't go on a forum day after day, month after month, year after year and insult them endlessly.
I avoid anything about those that irritate me. I don't want to read about them nor do I want to post about them.

Public figures talk shite every day. Some actively engage in hate speech and don't receive anywhere near the same amount of scrutiny. Pointing out shite is fine but why is this desire to point it out always so much more intense with Meghan?

Lovely! I'm pleased you think that Smile

@amyneedssleep I respectfully disagree.

You seem to think that MM should be beyond reproach because she is female and black, which is racist in itself.

No, instead you are on every thread on this forum, defending them day after day, year after year. What’s more there is no nuance at all in your discussions. Just blanket approval for their every move.

@ArcaneLana www.shape.com/lifestyle/beauty-style/meghan-markle-clip-in-hair-extensions

I only mention it as she is supposedly a champion of woman's rights but seemingly overlooks impoverished women in China/India

Human hair trade is exploiting ASEAN women

Sorry I still don’t get how Meghan talking about her mixed hair has anything to do with this. Like I said many white women, some of them feminists wear clip on weaves and wigs. Are they ever judged this way?. Many mixed/ black women have a very complicated relationship with their hair, and I found the conversation refreshing.

StickywithSuncream · 30/08/2022 16:27

so instead they come up with this narrative that she's a narcissist

Nobody needs to ‘come up with’ a ‘narrative’ here - she shows herself for who she is out of her own mouth and actions, without anybody needing to make anything up!!

The fact that black people suffer racism doesn’t mean that criticism of any black person must always be racist.

In this case there is plenty of evidence to suggest she’s extremely economical with the truth when it suits her.

I don't think as many white women wear wigs and clip ons as you think. Unless you live on the set of Love Island...

nypost.com/2022/08/29/toddler-and-tiara-meghan-markle-still-throwing-tantrums-about-royal-family/

Excerpt:

Anyone who’s read Tom Bower’s recent book knows that Meghan is an inveterate liar. But here we have the duchess in her natural habitat — a soulless mansion, Meghan “backlit by the late-morning light in a scene that looks like a Nancy Meyers cinematic interior, Town & Country, Goop, and Architectural Digest had an orgy” — and this only frees her up to reveal her most authentically inauthentic self in all her resentful glory

We begin with the “invisible” help lighting a scented candle from the members-only Soho House — the founder, Meghan says, a friend. Annual dues run a little over $4,000. But remember: even though she wants to be known as a humanitarian, a feminist and a renegade, what’s equally important are all the famous people she knows and the exclusive, rich-people-only places she has access to.

That article is hilarious. Love the photo of her sitting at her power desk, with Harry looking creepily in the window - at first I thought he was the gardener or something.
He really has been relegated to useful idiot.

I disagree - I think there are plenty of public figures who actively court the media spotlight who come in for such scrutiny. I suspect that they would have a less 'intense' time of it if they simply stopped their obsession with slinging mud at the RF and coming out with such nonsense as they have done, and started delivering something (anything) of actual worth. They've become parodies, intentionally or otherwise.

You may think I am on every thread continually. You are mistaken. Thanks for criticising my posting style and what I say.
I don't do blanket approval for every single thing they do. But you think what you want. I just don't bully them and call them every name under the sun whilst waiting for a lot of others to join in with the insults.

Meghan has never been diagnosed with NPD, at least as far as the public know of, so yes any speculation that she has a personality disorder is in fact a narrative as it is not a viewpoint based in objectivity and fact.

And/or people have agency to come to their own conclusions based on the evidence they have heard, seen and read direct from the horses mouth (or are we not allowed to use that animal “slur” expression)…..

I don’t read tabloids. I watched the African interview. I watched the OW interview. I have read The Cut.

I struggle with why anyone who is a left leaning humanitarian would even date the product of an ancient financially exploitative family/firm system never mind marry in to it and grease their wheels.

Her “values” are fake, shallow and driven by self interest.

It would be as preposterous as Greta Thunberg getting with Baron Trump.

theveg · 30/08/2022 16:36

Who had said she has NPD??

It's objectively provable that she has lied on many occasions, about things as significant as when she was legally married.

LemonSwan · 30/08/2022 16:36

The more I read these comments the more I get confused. And I say that as someone who had a previous psychotic episode were I thought certain songs had certain meaning. Not messages controlling my mind or anything crazy like that. But dog whistles, alternate meanings by the song writers in lyric or video. And not about me but about a controversial social issue.

The point in bringing this up, was someone classed that enough as psychotic behaviour to label me as being psychotic due to these thoughts. Perhaps it was true, I will never know. But when I read these I think the same thing - they might be true, but they probably aren’t. And even in the one or two cases where it is true doesn’t mean it’s true in every other situation which can be twisted to a certain narrative with a super reach.

It just reminds me of it. I am not calling Megan or any other poster psychotic it’s just an interesting comparison to me.

I did think she was treated badly by some of the press. Some of the coverage did have racist overtones.
I had sympathy up until the Oprah interview. Most mixed families have similar conversations and her accusations of racism seemed disingenuous and vindictive. Her behaviour is quite appalling now and criticism of that behaviour cannot be dismissed as simply racist. I mean the Nelson Mandela comment.. seriously…
