As the last thread filled up & there's plenty of discussion of Meghan's interview in The Cut, seems worthwhile starting a new thread!

A read yesterday that a series of media interviews are planned to promote the podcasts. Should be very interesting if The Cut interview is anything to go by!

"I don't want to be part of the monarchy" - consistently uses title Duchess in own self-promotion in order to gain notoriety with no apparent self-awareness of hypocrisy

"I want to protect my son from exposure in the media" - uses son's name as title of charity, podcast, etc...

Absolutely 💯

fancytulip · 30/08/2022 12:21

I've just tried reading the Cut interview. Fucking hell, painful and torturous, so many meaningful nods and winks, so much name dropping and cloying branding, so much curation, so much fake.

But she already covered all of this in the interview for Oprah, she reminds me with a firm smile and a wave of her hand that signals it is time to move on

This stood out to me. The need to have ultimate control, to wave your hand at the peasants and snap your fingers.when you want to ''curate your content''. Wearing a bit fucking thin now. I get the feeling the interviewer hated the whole affair, but had to write between the lines

I wonder if she’s reached that stage of celebrity when nobody around you will tell you you’re wrong or criticise anything you do. It’s a dangerous and unhealthy place to be.

This. I think the pair of them are living in cloud cuckoo land and that are powerfully validating each other's grievances - constantly inflating their feeling hard done to. I've known couples like this in RL - very much an us against this unfair world mentality - which is all very well in a semi detached in Leicester but looks really tone deaf and unpleasant when you're ridiculously wealthy, beautiful and have a great deal of power on the world stage. They seem to be on a downhill run now though. How can they ever expect to be taken seriously again?

Not sure if this has already been posted . Archie was not in the room at the time and the fire was
confined to the heater if there was actually a fire.

Of course it’s understandable that M would be rattled, but her claim that she was expected to do another engagement afterwards and that ‘didn’t make sense’ is ridiculous. Does she think other Royals just decide not to bother carrying on when something upsetting happens? Just no thought for anyone else at all. Only herself.

And also no thought for all the people who will have been preparing for days (if not weeks) for this engagement. It is not even equivalent to taking an afternoon off work. It would be letting hundreds of people down. What for - for a 'there but for the grace of god' moment people experience all of the time.

He had sex with a minor (under 18) who was trafficked for sex. I'm flabbergasted you think the definition of paedophilia is only with prepubescent children. We will never know how much he "enjoyed" his friendship with Epstein. Epstein is dead, and Andrew settled out of Court because he didn't want to be question under oath in the US.

But that is the definition. From StopItNow What defines paedophilia?
Paedophilia relates to a specific disorder where there is a preference for sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children.

The issue with the 16 or 17 year old he is alleged to have had sex with is if she was trafficked. Having sex with a trafficked woman is illegal whatever her age but regardless I haven't heard any allegations about prepubescent girls. I think trying to make it sound more shocking is insulting to trafficked women as if the offence isn't actually shocking enough.

Having sex with a 16 or 17 year old is legal in the UK, ages vary round the world, but certainly in the UK I was married a few weeks after my 17th birthday. No one raised an eyebrown, the registrar didn't warn my new husband that he needed to wait 12 months before we had sex or he could be charged with paedophilia.

Both parties settled out of court for whatever reasons.

I quite like Charles. Not very bright either but thinks he is and essentially benign

Has the enablement of paedophiles been benign?

Are you talking about Andrew? Look I .not for one kindle defending that auld .... but he is not a paedophile.

Lottapianos · 30/08/2022 12:35

'Wearing a bit fucking thin now. I get the feeling the interviewer hated the whole affair, but had to write between the lines'

Very true. I can't decide if MM has no self awareness, or knows perfectly well how daft she sounds but will do and say anything to keep being talked about. She really doesn't come out of that interview well 🤦🏻‍♂️

sausage767 · 30/08/2022 12:38

notanotheroneagain · 30/08/2022 12:14

Context is everything.

The press know who their audience are, what they approve of and what they have been writing themselves.

To give you an example:
You may say words like that is 'dumb' for example with your family and friends and they will understand you are not being mean.
But, you surely cannot use this word in front of or to someone who literally cannot speak.

They know these implications and names are offensive, they know what they are doing and they don't care. It's not a reach.

I am amazed you would use this example in relation to MM.

Are you implying that it’s not ok to compare her feet/shoes to trotters because she ‘literally’ is a pig?

I can’t begin to imagine where you are going with this.

Blossomtoes · 30/08/2022 12:38

The only bit I’ve read is where she talked about being the centre of a media storm at every school pick up. Odd that this doesn’t happen to the Cambridges. She’s getting less relevant every day, it’s going to be amusing observing the consequences of her growing desperation for media attention over the coming months.

Lostinabba · 30/08/2022 12:39

@sellorkeep shame Meghan isn't a mumsnetter she could share her discount code with us 😂.

But what a bonkers interview, do Meghans PR not like her?

OliviaBean · 30/08/2022 12:40

The Nelson Mandela comparison is a new level of delusional.

I think there very well could be an entirely different view of MM after all these podcasts and articles from those that were giving her the benefit of the doubt.

Talk about digging a bigger hole every time she opens are mouth.

Whoever said Harry was as down to earth as his father. LOL. Travels with his own harpist. Looks that's all you meed to know. Amd I quite like Charles. Not very bright either but things he is and essentially benign. Now Wii total other category. I would not want to come.ip against him.

I think that was the point though - that Harry is now so far removed from reality by either choice or influence.

I got that. Amazing comparison.

DorritLittle · 30/08/2022 12:43

Wait.... Harry travels with his own harpist?

SpinCityBlues · 30/08/2022 12:43

The Charles reference was about his acquaintanceships with men who were discovered to be actual paedophiles - eg Peter Ball, Jimmy Savile. He seems easily deceived, shall we say.

LondonWolf · 30/08/2022 12:48

I thought the article very clever and was interested to note, given the tone of the article and the endless assertions of racism both here and elsewhere, that Allison P David is a black woman.

LondonWolf · 30/08/2022 12:49

Davis not David. Bloody autocorrect!

Wizzbangfizz · 30/08/2022 12:57

I haven’t RTFT but have commented before on similar threads. The article is dreadful in how she comes across - I think the lack of self awareness is what is really striking, but also given the control the pair of them like to think they wield over the media and the coverage of themselves she must have had advance sight/approval of that and thought it a good idea to go ahead.

i think she thinks that she can brief/counter brief but doesn’t understand any of the complexity behind doing it like the Cambridges do because they listen to trusted advisors instead of an American PR company.

The other thing I find really sinister (and apologies if this has been said before) is this horrible undertone that whilst the queen lives they will (to the most part tow the line) but as soon as she is gone and post her funeral it will be gloves off.

candlefest · 30/08/2022 12:57

She really reminds me of my sil. Harry should watch his back though, one day, if the marriage falls apart where divorce rate is like 50% or what, he would start reading and hearing all his life being spilled out as well as it's him that lives with her. I will never ever trust someone like that because the table will turn one day. For someone to talk about your family in a negative light at every opportunity will talk about you as well one day 🚩🚩🚩

AlexandriasWindmill · 30/08/2022 12:58

They're ignoring the article and rehashing arguments from years ago whilst pretending they care about trafficked women as they ignore all the high profile US men who have been linked to Epstein and received no punishment, settlements or legal censure. They don't really care about any of this. They just want a bunfight on the internet. As a feminist, MM must be raging that they claim to be supporting her whilst acting in this way.

AlexandriasWindmill · 30/08/2022 12:59

And to be balanced, the other 'side' keeping the bunfights going are just as bad.

Excerpt:

Anyone who’s read Tom Bower’s recent book knows that Meghan is an inveterate liar. But here we have the duchess in her natural habitat — a soulless mansion, Meghan “backlit by the late-morning light in a scene that looks like a Nancy Meyers cinematic interior, Town & Country, Goop, and Architectural Digest had an orgy” — and this only frees her up to reveal her most authentically inauthentic self in all her resentful glory

We begin with the “invisible” help lighting a scented candle from the members-only Soho House — the founder, Meghan says, a friend. Annual dues run a little over $4,000. But remember: even though she wants to be known as a humanitarian, a feminist and a renegade, what’s equally important are all the famous people she knows and the exclusive, rich-people-only places she has access to.

This article is a hidden hatchet job. It’s so bad you can’t believe they are paying for a PR person. Even the most pretentious A listers don’t talk like that. She has drunk too much of her own Kool Aid.

also anyone ever bought trousers for £30 from Boden 🤣🤣😂

“They’re like $30 pants from Boden, and I brought them back.”

HannahSternDefoe · 30/08/2022 13:13

That woman has so much envy running through her veins.

Thankfully there is an ocean between her and the UK most of the time

I am loving the podcast. Excellent speaking and interview voice. Mn and dailyfail can go figure. Listening to Meghan is fascinating, and it gives me absolute joy.

Is that you Meghan?
