Some nice Royal news .
It has been announced by BP that she is going to St Andrews University . She will be in good company as I have a young relative starting there too ! When I told her about LL she said “who?” so hopefully HM’s granddaughter will enjoy her years there in peace.
It had also emerged that LL is working p/t in a local garden centre ..
She seems to be a lovely young lady.

I went to St Andrews in 1987 to study English and I hope LL has as good a university experience there as I did. My offer was ABB, and my grades were AAB, long before the days of the A star.

There was no need to announce this. If they were going to they should have announced her grades. Why are they suddenly pushing her into the limelight -Edward and Sophie seem to have kept their kids away from this.

The RF are not honest when they are questioned - Andrew, money for Charles from Saudi, their use or private jets, their constant talk of climate change with complete disregard for it in how they act, it's well known they control closely what they let out - considering how much they cost us there isn't sufficient transparency.

If they didn't announce it, the press would have dug and published it anyway. They aren't "pushing her into the limelight", she is now an adult and going out into the world on her own.

Her grades are really no ones's business but I bet someone will find out and publish them.

I don't think that she's being pushed into the limelight.

Isn't it pretty standard to announce when the Queen's GC go to Uni?

I hope that she does really well, has a lovely time, meets some great friends & is left alone by the press whilst there.

LittleBearPad · 19/08/2022 09:15

I see there are the usual miseries talking out their arses.

Hope she has fun!

It’s disappointing to read negative comments online .

Not everyone sucks up to the Royal Family i'm afraid !

I think they should be got rid of when the queen snuffs it

Xenia · 19/08/2022 09:16

She seems to be a lovely girl (Prince Edward's daughter). Good luck to her and I hope everyone there can just treat her nicely and like everyone else.

perimenofertility · 19/08/2022 09:19

For those asking why they announced it!- their press office will be inundated with requests for the info. One small press release from them stops them being bombarded with questions and stops the poor girl being chased around the country.
Good luck to her, she seems nice and sensible and I hope she'll go on to have a successful career of her own making.

ImperioMarch · 19/08/2022 09:20

One of my nieces was there at the same time as W and C . The locals were very protective of W and I am sure they will be the same with Louise . It’s a lovely place .

I'm a local and it was more that no one gave a stuff. He was just one of a number of obscenely privileged students who give the rest a bad name.

Novella4 · 19/08/2022 09:20

@Wonnle . Of course you are right .

But as a republican I appreciate the royalists comments as they are generally so bootlicking as to be off putting

Novella4 · 19/08/2022 09:22

And anyone who thinks the royals get anywhere ( 'job' or university place) on their own merit is deluded.

I'm sure this young woman is a perfectly nice person . I have no interest in her at all.

It’s not a question of “ sucking up “ ( what an infantile thing to say) it’s being pleased that a young woman has done well and is going to do something with her life rather than lounge around on yachts .

And yet you commented on a thread about her !?

@Readinginthesun the point is , why comment at all ??

I look at lots of royal threads .
Was this a designated bootlicking one ? No dissent allowed ??

A B C for St Andrews - only if you're a Royal or a celeb

William went over 20 years ago when offers were much much lower for all universities.

Baravia · 19/08/2022 09:30

Harry did not go to uni, he went to Sandhurst. Teacher accused of doing artwork for him if I remember rightly so wasn't an academic subject. Anyway would look stupid if they allowed the Royals, children of MPs, famous people etc to cheat/not get in on merrit so could have been made up anyway.

Butchyrestingface · 19/08/2022 09:32

I got an unconditional for an Arts and Humanities degree at a Scottish RG uni in 1995 after 5th years with AABC in my Highers. I remember the minimum offer was BBBB.

I seem to remember a bit of a stink around alleged preferential treatment for Eugenie's admission to Newcastle uni - her initial application was rejected by an admissions officer who didn't have a clue who she was and then fished out of the bin once the penny dropped.

Nothing to suggest the same applies to LL, of course. Smile

There was a photo of her in the paper yesterday and she strongly resembled her grandmother in it. She and her brother look like nice young people.
Very best wishes to her and other 18 year olds with their future.

I thought she very much resembled Queen Mary.

Adversity · 19/08/2022 09:35

@LaraLei William is about 40. Universities change their entry requirement plus its course dependant.

The last RG University I worked at required all A grades by the time I left. When I started there about 16 years previously you would have been accepted with ABB. One of my colleagues who is now a senior academic had I think CCC as his A level results, we had a bit of a laugh about how he wouldn’t even get a foot in the door these days. This then opens the debate on the difficulty of exams over time.

diddl · 19/08/2022 09:36

Unlikely to apply just to the royals though!

William went over 20 years ago when offers were much much lower for all universities.

It was widely reported at the time that had s grades were lower than the other students admitted . The RF used the security line as a reason (ie acknowledged it)

weebarra · 19/08/2022 09:37

I got an unconditional offer from St A's for history with AABB at Higher, and ended up at Edinburgh at the same time as PW.
So I think ABC would likely have been ok to get in.
Good on her.

Gilmorehill · 19/08/2022 09:41

Shame on the newspapers for doing that. I live in the area and there are a couple of really nice centre near her parents’ home. I hate to think of the nosey parkers who will be visiting in the next few days to take a peek.

Readinginthesun · 19/08/2022 08:49

I might have known the snide comments would start . I - naively- thought we could have a nice Royal thread for once . Silly me.

@Readinginthesun shocked at some of them. I will never understand some people. Hopefully these comments don’t get repeated to her or a paper pick up your thread ☹️

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/08/2022 09:44

the comments in the daily telegraph are even worse than here!

Samcro · 19/08/2022 09:44

i hope it goes well. she is a minor royal so should be left alone(I hope)
