Some nice Royal news .
It has been announced by BP that she is going to St Andrews University . She will be in good company as I have a young relative starting there too ! When I told her about LL she said “who?” so hopefully HM’s granddaughter will enjoy her years there in peace.
It had also emerged that LL is working p/t in a local garden centre ..
She seems to be a lovely young lady.

I might have known this would turn into a snipe against W !
Remind me , what are the entry qualifications for Sandhurst ??

What a weird assumption.
I gripe against them all !

Get rid of the lot once Liz goes

Sorry to be cynical and she maybe very bright however I suspect this is another member of the RF awarded a place based on who they are. Meanwhile there are thousands of students with 8/9 at gcse and A and A stat at a level who don't get offered a place........

What evidence do you have for this?

gatehouseoffleet · 19/08/2022 10:01

I don't know why people on here are going on about William's grades, he's 40 and it was 22 years ago.

When I did my degree BBC was needed for my course. You need AAA for the same course at the same university now.

So I suspect his grades were more than sufficient at the time.

Readinginthesun · 19/08/2022 08:38

William received A, B and C in A levels which was sufficient for St Andrews ( one of the best Unis in the U.K.)

If you're from the right school and background, sure. Anyone else would be expected to do better to get a place.

Badger1970 · 19/08/2022 10:02

I always wondered how Prince William became a helicopter pilot from a degree in Geography.............

Good luck to her. She's been raised well away from the media circus and you have to credit Edward and Sophie for that. She was also born prematurely and both mother and daughter were lucky to survive. Anyone saying there's something wrong with her should be ashamed of themselves.

gatehouseoffleet · 19/08/2022 10:02

Not sure what the attraction is to St Andrews - tiny town on the North Sea - absolutely freezing. You've got Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling down the road, I'd choose any of them ahead of St A. But I am sure she will enjoy it.

You are judging on the grades required now, not then.

YouHaveAnArse · 19/08/2022 10:03

I'm the same age as PW, by the way, and looked at St Andrews - they were pretty clear that AAA was required for many courses. On the other hand, no university is going to be the one to deny Prince William a place, innit.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/08/2022 10:04

@SizzlingAwayIntheHotSun
i think she was premature and had a problem with her eye

Puffykins · 19/08/2022 10:04

I was at St. Andrew's at the same time as Prince William, reading Art History (as he applied for - he switched to Geography) and his A Level grades were better than mine. I actually got rejected initially- but wrote to and rang up the Art History department pleading my case - and they gave me a place. So St. Andrew's does make exceptions. Though quite fairly, it would seem; I have not a drop of royal blood, nor any another claim to fame.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/08/2022 10:04

@NanaNelly

'I thought she very much resembled Queen Mary.'

Yes, but without the three funnels. 😂

There was no need to announce this. If they were going to they should have announced her grades. Why are they suddenly pushing her into the limelight -Edward and Sophie seem to have kept their kids away from this.

The RF are not honest when they are questioned - Andrew, money for Charles from Saudi, their use or private jets, their constant talk of climate change with complete disregard for it in how they act, it's well known they control closely what they let out - considering how much they cost us there isn't sufficient transparency.

You don't think the press knows exactly how old all the Royal children are and when they'll be taking exams?

I think you’d be very surprised as to what kind of degree people can have and still be able to become a pilot. By having the degree he showed a certain amount of intelligence in the first place and he obviously then met the requirements for aptitude etc when going through the selection process.

YouHaveAnArse · 19/08/2022 10:06

Anyway, good for Louise, as with everyone else who gets a place. Hope she takes full advantage of those Unidays discounts.

WimpoleHat · 19/08/2022 10:06

Anyone else would be expected to do better to get a place.

William is 40. There’s been enormous grade inflation over 20 years; hence they introduced the A grade about 10 years ago. I’m a similarish age. In my day, BBB was a standard offer for a “standard” medical course. Oxford and Cambridge asked for AAB as their standard offer. ABC back when PW went would have been good grades - like AAB these days.

ajandjjmum · 19/08/2022 10:06

Hidingawaytoday · 19/08/2022 08:56

Good for her. But, why do they need to announce it? I don't mean that in a snide way but they've done so well to keep her and her brother out of the public eye could they not have let her go without everyone knowing?

I like to think that her Granny was so excited for her, that she said 'quick, make an announcement, so the whole world knows my DGD is a star'! Grin

gatehouseoffleet · 19/08/2022 10:06

I seem to remember a bit of a stink around alleged preferential treatment for Eugenie's admission to Newcastle uni - her initial application was rejected by an admissions officer who didn't have a clue who she was and then fished out of the bin once the penny dropped

I find this story very unlikely. It's not like Eugenie was a common name. She also got AAB and a 2.1 so it seems like she achieved her place on merit and then was equal to it.

gatehouseoffleet · 19/08/2022 10:07

I always wondered how Prince William became a helicopter pilot from a degree in Geography

I know someone who's a pilot with BA and she did a history of art degree!

WimpoleHat · 19/08/2022 10:07

The stars made my last post go awry! Should’ve said like A* AB these days.

FarFarFarAndAway · 19/08/2022 10:07

There's no reason to think Lady Louise didn't get the requisite grades, the best additions to the RF have been the incoming women who are all pretty much brighter than the hereditary Royals they married (although Diana had an emotional intelligence rather than an academic one perhaps). Certainly Sophie appears bright and did a professional job unlike her husband who did....what?

So, I don't find it strange Lady Louise would be bright, personable, and has interesting hobbies. I don't care for the RF at all, because the hereditary principle is laughable, but she seems, like lots of other girls her age, to be off to uni and doing well in life. She reminds me in her demeanour a bit of my daughter and her friends that went to selective grammar, quite sheltered, unlike my other daughter's friends who have been in a slightly more 'robust' environment of the local comp. St Andrews won't challenge her socially on that front.

Great for all young people to work outside the home and find out their own capabilities, for her too.

YouHaveAnArse · 19/08/2022 10:07

Can't edit, but: in my year there was an issue with a whole load of English and History places being mismarked by the exam board, meaning friends of mine who got 1-2 grades lower 'officially' than they really did missed out on places at Leeds and had to go to their second choice. They were remarked later but it was too late.

Well I had an offer from Cambridge which was AAB. It seems pretty unlikely that St Andrews wanted higher grades than Cambridge did. Admittedly I am a bit older, but grade inflation hadn't kicked off to the same extent as it has now.

MotherofPearl · 19/08/2022 10:11

MiddleAgedTraveller · 19/08/2022 08:28

If she got there on merit she will be the 1st member of the royal family ever to go to a university based on their academic ability and personality

But I expect that like all of the others she deprived a more able candidate of a place because of her royal privilege.

Personality?! Personality doesn't play a role in the HE admissions process.

Abraxan · 19/08/2022 10:11

LaraLei · 19/08/2022 08:42

Is A,B,C sufficient for St Andrews? When I looked for DS it was all As or all A*. That was for engineering though.

Back when he went quite possibly yes.
Offer and acceptance grades were much lower back then from my own and family/friends experience.

Butchyrestingface · 19/08/2022 10:14

I can't speak to whether it's TRUE, of course. But at the time, it certainly made the press.
