Some nice Royal news .
It has been announced by BP that she is going to St Andrews University . She will be in good company as I have a young relative starting there too ! When I told her about LL she said “who?” so hopefully HM’s granddaughter will enjoy her years there in peace.
It had also emerged that LL is working p/t in a local garden centre ..
She seems to be a lovely young lady.

Is A,B,C sufficient for St Andrews? When I looked for DS it was all As or all A*. That was for engineering though.

William went there over 20 years ago when ABC was a fairly standard offer for a decent Uni. You couldn't even get A* grades back then - they were introduced in 2010.

If she got there on merit she will be the 1st member of the royal family ever to go to a university based on their academic ability and personality

But I expect that like all of the others she deprived a more able candidate of a place because of her royal privilege.

Really? You think Kate Middleton got a university place based on the fact that someone foresaw that she would marry into the royal family?

Newgirls · 19/08/2022 08:54

A small and discrete uni miles from most places so can see why royals choose it

its a magical place and I am sure the students will treat her well

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/08/2022 08:54

the telegraph reported her a levels, not the results
English, history, politics and drama as her A-level subjects.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/08/2022 08:55

Why are BP involved? They should be focusing on ensuring that the fuel duty cuts are passed on to the consumer.

😂

Drivebye · 19/08/2022 08:55

This isn't about her being a nice person or not, I'm sure she is - why wouldn't she be. However the lack of transparency from the RF continues to show us who they are - they really don't give a monkies, it's just about protecting brand royal. There seems a to be a disproportionate amount of poor judgement from them that they just shrug off and stick 2 fingers up at the general public.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/08/2022 08:55

i hope she has peace and enjoyment there

Hidingawaytoday · 19/08/2022 08:56

Good for her. But, why do they need to announce it? I don't mean that in a snide way but they've done so well to keep her and her brother out of the public eye could they not have let her go without everyone knowing?

ethelredonagoodday · 19/08/2022 08:56

@basilmint has said exactly what I was going to say. A* in a-levels didn't exist when I went to uni, and Prince William is only slightly younger than me.

I'm really intrigued by this. What aren't they being transparent about and how transparent did they need to be about Prince Edward's daughter's university choice?

Drivebye · 19/08/2022 08:57

Kate Middleton wasn't a member or the RF when she changed university to St A's because she found out William was going there. She was just a 'normal' Marlborough College with a plan to (bag a prince) get a good degree

That's not true. William, Beatrice and Eugenie all went to uni on their own merits as may others whose results we don't know.

One of my nieces was there at the same time as W and C . The locals were very protective of W and I am sure they will be the same with Louise . It’s a lovely place .

William received A, B and C in A levels which was sufficient for St Andrews ( one of the best Unis in the U.K.)

It wasnt.

A B C for St Andrews - only if you're a Royal or a celeb

Im slightly older than PW; a standard Russell Group offer in the 1990s was BBC; that was what I needed for UCL. Hubby went to LSE - his course needed BBB (but they let him in with BBD). Remember A*s didn't exist back then so an A was the best you could get.
So if William got into St Andrew's with ABC I think that's not out of kilter. Those were better grades c.2000 than they sound now..
Him going there really put St Andrew's on the map; it was a niche choice back then, rather old fashioned and probably chosen more for security and privacy purposes than for prestige. It has expanded a lot and become much more popular and prestigious since he attended.

KM wasnt member of the royal family?

Drivebye · 19/08/2022 09:03

There was no need to announce this. If they were going to they should have announced her grades. Why are they suddenly pushing her into the limelight -Edward and Sophie seem to have kept their kids away from this.

The RF are not honest when they are questioned - Andrew, money for Charles from Saudi, their use or private jets, their constant talk of climate change with complete disregard for it in how they act, it's well known they control closely what they let out - considering how much they cost us there isn't sufficient transparency.

Readinginthesun · 19/08/2022 09:04

I might have known this would turn into a snipe against W !
Remind me , what are the entry qualifications for Sandhurst ??

Louise is HM’s granddaughter! I seem to recall similar announcements about Beatrice and Eugenie .

Now - when Prince Harry would not qualify?

Or two years before those changes, when he joined and did meet the minimum spec of the day?

Its been in the top 3 unis with oxbridge for years - and is at the top now in the Times list. I don’t think that is due to William. It is tiny though and might seem a long way for many so prob wasnt one that gets talked about compared to larger unis

FrenchFancie · 19/08/2022 09:07

I got into Durham with ABC in 1998 so I think Ws offer of ABC at St Andrews 2 years later was about right….
I think it’s been mentioned before that Lady Louise is a bright kid and wants to work, not be a working Royal. Good luck to her, hope she enjoys it.

I agree about the grades. My DH went to St Andrews on BBB. This was late 90s.

There was a photo of her in the paper yesterday and she strongly resembled her grandmother in it. She and her brother look like nice young people.
Very best wishes to her and other 18 year olds with their future.

I thought she looked like the Queen very much too

TrashyPanda · 19/08/2022 09:10

In Scotland, St Andrews has always been regarded as a very prestigious university.

congratulations to LL and I hope she really enjoys her time there.
