Some nice Royal news .
It has been announced by BP that she is going to St Andrews University . She will be in good company as I have a young relative starting there too ! When I told her about LL she said “who?” so hopefully HM’s granddaughter will enjoy her years there in peace.
It had also emerged that LL is working p/t in a local garden centre ..
She seems to be a lovely young lady.

A* at A level wasn’t even a thing when William went to Uni

Many things make the press that aren’t true

but this is the royal news - so you could google

fyi she is the daugher of prince edward, who is the queens youngest son

I didn't even know there was a Prince Edward (but then I'm only here because this was in the 'trending stories'

caringcarer · 19/08/2022 10:18

LL always seems a credit to her parents, smiling and polite, and not attention seeking. I hope she enjoyed her job at garden centre, will enjoy holiday in Scotland with her grandmother and is allowed to quietly blend in at St Andrews.

Such sycophantic dribble
rich entitled young woman goes to uni….and?
Frankly I’m more impressed when the young people from regular backgrounds get into uni, not the rich & privileged. From her background it was almost inevitable she’d go to uni. For others from more modest backgrounds it’s an achievement

Roussette · 19/08/2022 10:23

Nothing against this woman, I'm sure she'll have a great time at St.Andrews.
I just don't understand why we are revering and thinking how wonderful it all is, when she has been at a select private school and she was always going to get in to the Uni of her choice. Yes, it's nice but it's not an achievement is it...

My DD voluntarily tutors on the Access project (really worth a look if anyone fancies part time tutoring!) which supports disadvantaged students to get in to top Unis.
She is coming up to her second year tutoring a young black lad from a very deprived area who has potential but needs help.. Now.. if he gets in to a top Uni, that will be a massive achievement.
I can't get excited about a member of the royal family doing what the royal family always do.

Roussette · 19/08/2022 10:24

@Zone2NorthLondon

You must've read my mind with your post, I have just put exactly that!

Abraxan · 19/08/2022 10:25

St Andrew's own web site says the requirement for A levels is ABB to AAA so it would seem, unsurprisingly, that even good old prince William deprived a more capable candidate of their place

He went 20+ years ago.
It's pointless comparing current entry grades now to back then.
I know people the same age as W will similar and lower grades who went to good universities including SA.

scarletisjustred · 19/08/2022 10:27

I think her parent were wise to not use her real title and call her by her lesser title. Technically, she is just as much a princess as Eugenie and Beatrice.

Completely agree with this post
A rich & privileged woman going to uni is somewhat inevitable, like finishing school for gerls really
A young person from modest means or from a disadvantaged background going to uni is a really big deal
Access project is one such route to reach out to and support able young people who don’t have that certainty and are overcoming additional socioeconomic challenges
I’m impressed by @Roussette I'm not impressed by privilege

Zone2NorthLondon · 19/08/2022 10:33

Typo, I’m impressed by @Roussette daughter. Being a tutor in access programme

esse123 · 19/08/2022 10:37

I'm sure she did well to get her Uni place, but as for the garden centre job, thats taking a job away from someone who actually needs it.

Thank you. I'm proud of her.
The funny thing is... after a year tutoring him, he is so so shy, he will still not put his camera on even though she has hers on!
And he is very monosyllabic when she tries to engage but it doesn't matter, because sometimes he shows flashes of brilliance (she is tutoring Maths) so she has high hopes for him and his Uni applications...

grafittiartist · 19/08/2022 10:40

Getting a job is about more than money.
It's a positive thing for young people to do.

hummerbird · 19/08/2022 10:42

One small point to note:
it was announced that she had won.....etc
I don't think she announced it, Not a statement she put on Twitter.
All done by 'helpful' other people.

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 19/08/2022 10:47

She seems like a lovely young woman and I'm happy for her. Thanks for posting, OP, as I hadn't heard.

So no one who comes from a wealthy background can have a job now?

If she didn't work people would comment negatively.
Now she does have a job people comment negatively.

I think it's great that people like her have a part time job. Gives them some real life experience.

And she’s all over the paper today as the paper has outed the fact she is working in a garden centre. I feel sorry for her - she had a job she adored and there is no need.

What do you expect. It's the price you pay for such a privileged upbringing.

Being anonymous is the best gift in life. Something the Royals will never get the opportunity to experience.

I might have known the snide comments would start . I - naively- thought we could have a nice Royal thread for once . Silly me.

Lots of angry people on here! You don't do 4 A levels if you're thick. She's also very talented with her driving - I know best horses, coaching etc etc but you don't succeed with that without talent, determination and hard work. See Zara .

Your daughter sounds amazing!

Personally I consider being a member of the Royal family a disadvantage for some of them. Lack of anonymity, constant scrutiny and criticism, always having your achievements dismissed. Lots of people couldn't cope with it and still achieve.

I’m sure she’s not thick and she seems very pleasant.

It’s a hell of a jump to think that royal status has no influence whatsoever on admissions.

I wish her luck her anyway. It’s a shame her garden centre job has been outed.

Oh come on. If she didn't have one people would be complaining she'd never worked a day in her life!

Why do people even start these sycophantic gushing owww isn’t she luvverley, scraping and slurping in deference at the upper classes
