Some nice Royal news .
It has been announced by BP that she is going to St Andrews University . She will be in good company as I have a young relative starting there too ! When I told her about LL she said “who?” so hopefully HM’s granddaughter will enjoy her years there in peace.
It had also emerged that LL is working p/t in a local garden centre ..
She seems to be a lovely young lady.

I don’t think Beatrice and Eugenie were consulted about it when it was them.

antelopevalley · 24/08/2022 01:53

I find that pretty shocking.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 24/08/2022 01:56

It’s the same old palace power games that have been going on forever.

Im slightly older than PW; a standard Russell Group offer in the 1990s was BBC; that was what I needed for UCL. Hubby went to LSE - his course needed BBB (but they let him in with BBD). Remember A*s didn't exist back then so an A was the best you could get.
So if William got into St Andrew's with ABC I think that's not out of kilter. Those were better grades c.2000 than they sound now..
Him going there really put St Andrew's on the map; it was a niche choice back then, rather old fashioned and probably chosen more for security and privacy purposes than for prestige. It has expanded a lot and become much more popular and prestigious since he attended.

St Andrews was a very prestigious University in the seventies actually, and well before. It tends to attract students who have been to fee paying schools, and isn’t easy to get into.

Yes!

Could be she's not that interested in fashion so as long as it's suitable that's enough.

Has Sophie been one for following fashion particularly?

Sophie always dressed in a way that she thought fitted her role but since a significant birthday she’s given herself an complete overhaul and now looks absolutely fantastic.

Not that I know her 😝 But I did read a very good article in a newspaper that commented on her transformation.

NanaNelly · 24/08/2022 06:37

@antelopevalley I know a pr campaign when I see one.

you should do because you’re a perfect example of one.

St Andrews didn’t need William going there to help it become prestigious. It always was.

Lady Louise appears in public at Royal events. Saying she could do with a bit of help to choose some more flattering dresses is the very mildest kind of "criticism".
But apparently, because she is 18 years old we are only allowed to say - wow isn't she marvellous. Such a nice young lady.
The sycophancy on this thread is off the scale. You would think you were talking about the Virgin Mary herself and I had suggested perhaps the Virgin Mary could do with the help of a dresser to choose some more flattering dresses.

Just because you don’t like what she wears doesn’t mean that she doesn’t? Has it occurred to you that she might be happy with her choices ?

It comes as a shock as to how low the bar is set for the press that I was genuinely surprised that none of print/tv showed LL's dress flare up at H&M's wedding other than the live feed. But I definitely agree if our, awful in parts, press can stick to not critiquing a teenager's dress sense it shouldn't be beyond the capacity of MN users

I was pleasantly surprised that this was not mentioned and allowed to drop, and think it should remain the case. Smile

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/08/2022 01:39

Sure. It's because Edward and Sophie have been stepped forward since Harry's departure. The PR around Louise is part of that.

When someone said to Sophie that they were glad to see her and Edward doing more work, her response was along the lines of 'we're doing what we've always done, but the press has never been interested before'.

Was this posted on the wrong RF thread?

antelopevalley · 26/08/2022 20:38

I posted it on the correct thread.

So a privileged aristocratic solvent young woman with no financial or social difficulties who attended a private school has got into university…and it’s all oh isn’t she super….oh overcame a difficult start…oh what she has endured….oh One may or may not know her(hint! Hint!) cannot reveal the source though…oh what a marvel working in a garden centre such an arduous and gritty environment for one so lovely

get real

an aristocrat fulfilling her very obvious and well laid out path is hardly ground breaking or an arduous struggle

essentIally a posh person has done well, met all expectations and used all advantages

I’m more impressed at the students who’ve overcame difficulties etc to achieve their a levels

antelopevalley · 28/08/2022 13:14

In comparison to some of her close relatives she has done well. No financial scandals, no friendships with sex traffickers and rapists, no public racism.

Zone2NorthLondon · 28/08/2022 13:22

Yes the royal with the dubious past and present, and the convicted prisoner friendship…that royal has had no statutory sanctions, no criminal justice investigation and some bad press that he’ll ignore anyway

A regular person, they’d experience more criticism and potentially more sanctions

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/08/2022 17:32

@Zone2NorthLondon
you have just repeated yourself throughout the whole thread.
i think it is obvious how you feel

For people saying you shouldn't be on this page unless you like the Royals, ever been on the step-parenting board and commented on there if you aren't a step mum, you can get ripped to shreds!

I think I only ended up on here because it was trending.

A BC for St. Andrews 15 years ago - sure. Was CCC 10 years before that.

I went in 1994 and needed ABC

Oh bore off

Zone2NorthLondon · 09/09/2022 18:55

@Glitterblue Nope I won’t bore off as you prosaically put it
I'll always have something to add up privilege and class
not to mention the sycophants who kiss arse about how lovely fragrant etc oh and did I know she’s actually a plucky little thing after her difficult start in life
Bemused it’s touched a nerve though
