Some nice Royal news .
It has been announced by BP that she is going to St Andrews University . She will be in good company as I have a young relative starting there too ! When I told her about LL she said “who?” so hopefully HM’s granddaughter will enjoy her years there in peace.
It had also emerged that LL is working p/t in a local garden centre ..
She seems to be a lovely young lady.

It wasnt.

DD1 is the same age as William, same grades, went to Leeds.
My younger kids, with similar grades, went to Manchester and Newcastle.
Is St Andrews different IYO? Why?

WeAreTheHeroes · 19/08/2022 08:58

That's not true. William, Beatrice and Eugenie all went to uni on their own merits as may others whose results we don't know.

Newcastle turned Eugenie down and had to be told who she was. At which point they hastily reconsidered.

Sorry to be cynical and she maybe very bright however I suspect this is another member of the RF awarded a place based on who they are. Meanwhile there are thousands of students with 8/9 at gcse and A and A stat at a level who don't get offered a place........

I’m not convinced that one person, however privileged, stopped “thousands” of others from getting a place at university 😂.

ihatebojo · 19/08/2022 08:50

I think it's lovely, and wish her the best of luck!

Agreed. I am so glad some of the royal gcs have been raised out of the spotlight.

sashagabadon · 19/08/2022 09:47

Good for her! I like Edward and Sophie and they are obviously bringing up very nice children

BitOutOfPractice · 19/08/2022 09:47

Readinginthesun · 19/08/2022 08:38

William received A, B and C in A levels which was sufficient for St Andrews ( one of the best Unis in the U.K.)

I strongly suspect that ABC would not have been "sufficient" for any other candidate from England! St Andrew's own web site says the requirement for A levels is ABB to AAA so it would seem, unsurprisingly, that even good old prince William deprived a more capable candidate of their place.

Prove it?

I got an unconditional for an Arts and Humanities degree at a Scottish RG uni in 1995 after 5th years with AABC in my Highers. I remember the minimum offer was BBBB.

I seem to remember a bit of a stink around alleged preferential treatment for Eugenie's admission to Newcastle uni - her initial application was rejected by an admissions officer who didn't have a clue who she was and then fished out of the bin once the penny dropped.

Nothing to suggest the same applies to LL, of course. Smile

Yes that's where it starts.

University applications are not anonymous...

But I'd like to know why this thread is here . Why comment at all??
She is one of thousands of 'nice' young women .
Because she's 'royal' - don't you see how sycophantic that is ?

RB68 · 19/08/2022 09:49

they are damned which ever way they go, its seen in poor taste to go around shouting about grades these days so most people just say how they did well have x A levels and are off to y Uni or whatever. There are plenty of others from all walks of life that get a leg up from who they know, even if its just interview advice. Green eyed monster seems to drive too many of these comments.

CountessOfSponheim · 19/08/2022 09:50

I appreciate it's probably too late to change the course of the thread, but William got AAC, not ABC.

That was good enough for Geography at St Andrews at the time (which is what he was admitted to study) as well as for Art History (which is what he switched to).

WhereAreMyAirpods · 19/08/2022 09:50

I met Edward, Sophie and their two children when they attended a sporting event I was volunteering at. They came into the stadium without fanfare, sat in the crowd with regular paying punters with their protection staff, watched for about an hour then came "backstage" to meet and chat to volunteers. Really nice family, children were very well behaved and polite, interested in what was going on.

They appear to be a very happy and secure family unit and I hope Louise enjoys her time in Scotland.

Entry requirements have changed over the past 20 years.

@perperimenofertility yeah, I know that really - just seems such a shame that they can't just leave her alone to be a normal student without the press having to tell everyone. She might be the queen's granddaughter but I just don't think we have the 'right' to know all this stuff iyswim, especially as she's not courting for attention. Oh well, I hope she has a fab time.

That is an outrageously rude and ignorant statement.

Truth is you do not have any idea of her academic ability. As for “clearly there is something wrong with her”, wow, how nasty.

To be honest you are the one who has something wrong. You are talking about a real life and very young woman who does not court attention.

hummerbird · 19/08/2022 09:57

I think LL inherited Prince Philip's competition carriage and horses. He trusted her to drive them, which suggests she ain't no muppet.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 19/08/2022 09:57

One suspects the OP just wanted a little brag about her own family members 😉

Readinginthesun · 19/08/2022 09:57

@SizzlingAwayIntheHotSun I have reported your nasty comment . Completely uncalled for .

Enough for a royal, but not for anyone else in reality

mondaytosunday · 19/08/2022 09:58

She probably did great at her A levels.
If I said 'Kate and William' to my teens they'd say 'who?' I don't think the Royal family means much to kids these days, and I bet very few would recognise her (I sure wouldn't). Hope she loves it there!

Cloud9isnowclosed · 19/08/2022 09:59

@averageavocado - the grade requirement at the time was BBC as per guardian article linked above

SizzlingAwayIntheHotSun · 19/08/2022 09:59

@MrsLargeEmbodied true though isn't it! I said I felt sorry for her, I wasn't being mean, I do feel sorry for her. Not publishing her results yet saying where she's going is fishy besides.
