I am just interested to see your opinions about the royal family. No judgement. And it can be from any royal family, not just the British one.

OP posts:
RaininSummer · 22/08/2022 18:51

I have no interest in them and get sick of seeing them in the media. I would like the royals to be demoted to as near to ordinary folk as possible once the queen goes.

1994girl · 22/08/2022 18:53

I love the TV series...but cannot STAND the royals.

maeveiscurious · 22/08/2022 18:54

I ❤️ the Royals

Unpopular opinion

I really like the Royal Family, and think that (most of them) work really hard.

Me too. Barring the few horrors amongst them.

Whowaswrongg · 22/08/2022 18:55

I don’t respect the Queen. She’s only interested in ‘protecting the crown’ ie their position and privilege. I struggle to believe she really cares about the average British person, or that any of them do really.

Kate and William have very good PR people, desperate to portray them and relatable and caring. Of which they are neither.

One of the more grand and remote cottages could be given to me to live in, rent free.

As I won't be taking dodgy money from shieks, getting involved in abusive sex rings, tax dodging or getting laws changed to suit me, I will be a far less malevolent tennant than the current lot. Grin

Done! 😄

I think the idea that their palaces should be given over to refugees/homeless is just silly posturing.

If we became a Republic, those palaces would be major tourist attractions, bringing in lots of money to (presumably) the taxpayers.

Using that money to help vulnerable people? Great!

It would be more effective, make far more economic sense and do far more good than using these priceless pieces of history for housing.

That is a good point, also the cost of converting into living accommodation would be huge- someone upthread suggested ‘starter homes’ I am not sure how that would work.

@ajandjjmum
The question is - why don't they jack it in then ?

And don't trot out the old 'duty' line - even the most gullible royalist won't believe that old lie

I think the Queen takes her duty - and vows before God - incredibly seriously. I'm not trotting out anything, and neither am I gullible. That is what I believe.

Try not to diss others just because you disagree with them.

Novella4 · 22/08/2022 19:12

@ajandjjmum
Anyone who believes other people can be 'royal' is gullible .

tonicwaters · 22/08/2022 19:16

They will never go. God says they can't. They are monarch because God says it is their right to be one.

Dieu et mon Droit.

That's it folks, for as long as God says it's ok, they are here. Doesn't matter if the future King has broken at least one of the Commandments either, they are above the law of God and man. It is all so positively feudal, but serfs we remain, outside the gates of the castle as always.

AppleKatie · 22/08/2022 19:25

They are anachronistic but therein lies their charm.

The alternative is an elected head of state presumably? And we seem to be shit at choosing elected officials so a mostly benign bit of hereditary monarchy will do for me thanks.

I've never understood the 'but they bring tourists to the uk' argument. It's not like Chad and Cheryl from Texas are going to sit down for tea with the queen, are they? So what is it? The palaces could all be opened up for public viewing, their priceless art could be put in galleries.

Bit isn't it supposed to be that tourists think they might be able to?

I don't know it's very strange.

Icabod · 22/08/2022 19:40

They are all desperately thick and boring people.

Wonnle · 22/08/2022 19:53

I just don't get why people hero worship them , or anyone else for that matter ,

In the words of Kenny Everett's General Cheeseburger "put em in a field and bomb the bastards !"

I think a lot of heartache and drama could have been avoided if people had been honest with Diana. I think she entered the whole thing in an incredibly naive way but she was very young and quite innocent in the ways of love. If Charles had been completely open and honest with her, e.g "I like you but I'm madly in love with Camilla and I don't know if I'll ever get over her and I'm hurting because she's married and that future is closed to me." that would have given Diana the autonomy to make her choice. Maybe they still would have married but maybe the marriage would have worked better because they both understood what they were working hard at in order to achieve a successful partnership. I don't blame Charles and Camilla for being in love but I do think how they behaved was cruel because they dragged a clueless, sheltered young woman into it and she had no idea what she was being set up for until the cogs were in full motion and she couldn't stop it. I think everything Diana did afterwards was borne out of her pain, humiliation, disappointment and heartache. It makes me sad that 25 years on from her death and her life is reduced to such a tragic story. She deserved to find her own happiness and peace but I don't think she ever did. It's lovely to see how happy Charles and Camilla are but their road to that happiness is very ugly and sad and 4 children were caught up and hurt by it.

Yes, or "I need a surrogate to give birth to my children so my line continues"!

The using of Diana as a convenient wife and broid mare should several members of the Royal family hanging their heads in shame.

Diana scrubbed up well but she wasn't a great beauty.

Yeah, I think the appeal was they thought she would shut up and put up though.

That bit them on the arse

My unpopular opinion is that Charles will make an excellent King

I agree.

tonicwaters · 22/08/2022 20:41

"Charles will make an excellent King"

OK, but he might need to invest in a new shopping trolley for the sacks of cash he is bound to get. His back won't cope when he is 80 and his shoulders will be in bits when he climbs the steps for the Coronation with the massive crown on his baldy head. Never mind, his red face will match the crimson and ermine.

Can you tell I am a cynic? A plague on all their houses.

storminabuttercup · 22/08/2022 23:08

The Queen is a shit mother and grandmother.
Unpopular opinion on here but let's imagine a Lizzie AIBU, she's found out her son was involved in a massively seedy world, he's had sex with young women who did not consent, he's a rapist, she's brushed it all under the carpet. I bet if she was a mother from a working class background or even just not the queen she'd be ripped to pieces.
Not to mention this all came out while they were making H&M public enemy #1 and they got no backing whatsoever.

Isaidnoalready · 22/08/2022 23:22

The queen wasnt really maternal with her first few children she left them to the nannies prince Charles was marginally better William and Harry are pretty normal parents compared to them

She does however seem a better grandmother than she ever did as a parent

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 22/08/2022 23:25

I really feel very uncomfortable that in a comment about a man who has abused his power to abuse young girls, his mum is getting stuck for what he did.

I think the Queen is essentially the world’s biggest career woman and with that, certainly when she was a young mum, she accepted that being a present mother was the sacrifice for that.

However all her children and grandchildren speak of her so fondly, I think Charles is very sincere when he talks of his affection for her so she must have done something right!

Mind you you can’t exactly go NC with the Queen can you!
