Harry and Meghan 'are invited to appear on Buckingham Palace balcony at Queen's Platinum Jubilee'

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10729859/Prince-Harry-Meghan-Markle-invited-make-balcony-appearance-Jubilee.html

No source cited, so could just be made up news.

How do you all feel about this? Is it another refusing-to-fly-the-flag-at-half-mast-for-Diana misreading of the public mood? Does anybody actually care? And, if not, what does that signify?

I imagine it would be a very overwhelming experience for Archie to meet all these relatives he doesn’t know and appear on the balcony in public too. Lili will still be a baby and liable to cry find it frightening . I don’t think babies are usually involved anyway.

CathyorClaire · 30/04/2022 21:15

why would Harry and Meghan return to the palace? Harry has several high profile successful projects

Archewell raised less than £37k in 2020. The last year accounts have been filed.

The private company Travalyst (seeded with funds raised by the now defunct Royal Foundation) reported profits of around £12k after payments to unidentified creditors due - coincidentally near totalling said funds- are taken into account.

Are you talking about the puff projects at Netflix and Spotify (who have yet to see any real return or even effort) or maybe the gormless posturing at apparently counsellor crisis hit BetterUp?

SonicWomb · 30/04/2022 21:26

@AnastasiaRomanov I think the best solution is for Harry to come on his own. No babies, no toddlers, no drama and of course no “security” concerns for his family then either (considering her managed to go all the way to the Netherlands). There’s absolutely no reason for him not to do so. The day is about HMQ, not about him.

Agree. However I don’t think he will. I don’t think he has any intention of attending any family events in the future.

mathanxiety · 01/05/2022 03:08

@Soffit - who did you have in mind when you mentioned Harry's 'money seeking wife'?

Has he turned polygamous?

mathanxiety · 01/05/2022 03:13

The Palace will definitely have the last laugh on this one.

Are they all playing some sort of tit for tat game then?

Would you characterise the Palace as a vindictive bunch? The sort of people who laugh if family members experience misfortune or failure?

SonicWomb · 01/05/2022 04:52

@lameasahorse i think what PP means is that the Invictus Games is a spin off of the Warrior Games in the US. So although the UK version is new, the concept is not. He did not create the idea, he copied it.

Ohnonevermind · 01/05/2022 07:10

I think they’d be better off not coming for the official jubilee as they are now private citizens and the focus is on TQ and her long service but if they want to celebrate with her privately and she’s game then go ahead.

TQ may want to read Harry’s new book before committing though 😉

I see Netflix are in financial trouble, and their animation department has been cut, I wonder if this will impact on Pearl ? and any other Sussex / Netflix collaboration. These documentaries are cheap to make but they can also have a limited audience unless you can find a way to inject some tawdry drama (like the Kardasians do)

I have said it before and will say it again - criticism does not equal hate !

IcedPurple · 01/05/2022 09:15

But yes Harry did set up Invictus even though it was claimed on this thread he did not.

How do you mean 'set up'?

Setting up an organisation on the scale of Invictus would require a large staff with considerable expertise and experience. Do you really think Harry worked day after day on the logistics of it? And do you think a single penny came out of his pocket?

Like with most royal charities, it will have been other people in the background doing the real work, with the royal mostly just putting their name to it and getting all the praise. We can see from the past two years that without the royal machine doing all the grunt work, Harry hasn't achieved much other than law suits and slagging off his family.

Soffit · 01/05/2022 10:41

Exactly, the idea of Invictus was not identified by him personally. His PR were fishing around for a project to give him some credibility. They found about the US games and lifted the format. Harry has not worked hard to get it off the ground and he fully admitted it to his friends until a few years ago. He fronts it, it is more financially beneficial than if an unknown person did this. That's about it! I think you will find that real entrepreneurs often have the ability to be able to replicate commercial success which they have achieved through their own efforts. His interviews only serve to highlight his utter cluelessness. It is also hard to ignore how he used Invictus 2022 to promote his own brand to line his own pockets. While he might need to prove success to Netflix, it was in poor taste.

CathyorClaire · 01/05/2022 12:10

Archewell is self-funded by Harry and Meghan

Given the source of donations under $50k doesn't have to be declared and indeed wasn't you can't possibly know that.

It's unlikely we'll ever get anything approaching transparency on Archewell's finances in light of it's being conveniently incorporated in Delaware.

Of course you should believe EVERYTHING you read on the Royal family website 😆They are effectively conceding on a website which nobody visits that they stole the idea ... and they are only doing it because Warrior required it.
Nowhere in the history of such projects has anybody milked it as much as Harry.

In any case, I am sure that Charles' project are comparatively original. I am a big supporter of his Trust and he has never plugged it endlessly or merched on his visits in order to promote his private charity which retains 95% of it's proceeds for his wife and himself.

Deadline (a genuine entertainment news service) is reporting that the Pearl animation project has been dropped by Netflix as they cut their production schedule. The other Archewell productions (the Invictus show, and whatever else that they are filming) are unaffected though.

Chilledchablis1 · 01/05/2022 18:46

Other news outlets are also reporting that Pearl has been dropped.

TheSnowyOwl · 01/05/2022 20:05

From what I understand, Netflix has cancelled all animated shows that haven’t been developed yet. I would imagine if Harry and Meghan’s current documentary that they are filming isn’t a success, the rest of their deal might well be in jeopardy.

Netflix are looking like they are struggling at the moment and are unlikely to take much of a gamble on something that might not pay off.

CathyorClaire · 01/05/2022 20:32

It is all on the Royal Family official website that I already linked to for you

The official website that tells us how hard the royals work and that still features the Duke of York and his previous strong focus on business and economic work?

It's a PR puff piece.

CathyorClaire · 01/05/2022 20:45

Given Auntie has progressively scaled down coverage (presumably in response to audience figures) over the years I'm not holding my breath.

Harry should probably be holding his alongside tightening his belt Grin

TBF it looked dull as. Just like the kids' book that bombed.

NF are wisely conserving their resources...
