Harry and Meghan 'are invited to appear on Buckingham Palace balcony at Queen's Platinum Jubilee'

No source cited, so could just be made up news.

How do you all feel about this? Is it another refusing-to-fly-the-flag-at-half-mast-for-Diana misreading of the public mood? Does anybody actually care? And, if not, what does that signify?

I actually do wish them all the best, although they’re pretty annoying too. In theory she chose to marry into the situation whereas Harry was born into it (when considering the scrutiny and that he requires security due to his family.) Meghan actually chose the scrutiny with her career and then her marriage choice.

Saying that though - we’re all born / forced into one situation or another. For a lot of people it’s poverty, war, violence… so in the scheme of things - Harry’s cross to bear isn’t such a bad one.

You know you're doing something right when the American racist Right and Fox News get behind your ILs.

Urging Americans to get out and vote is not pablum.

Abra1d1 · 27/04/2022 22:03

Politico nails it:

In reality, Harry and Meghan are probably neither as callous as their critics say, nor as innocently virtuous as they portrayed themselves to Oprah.

Chilledchablis1 · 28/04/2022 08:13

If reports are to be believed , H and M are not attending the Jubilee events .
it is also being reported that H won’t attend his father’s Coronation if Camilla is crowned beside him .
As with all things to do with H and M I don’t know if these things are true.

Anyone read the Tina Brown book? A lot of rehashing of stuff we already know, but pretty good on Meghan and Harry.

Florrey · 29/04/2022 16:54

It’s time we had a referendum on getting rid of the monarchy. They’re laughing at us, letting criminals and sycophants participate in public events that they should be banned from. Public opinion counts for nothing, they just do whatever they want.

notanotheroneagain · 29/04/2022 18:18

I did not read the Tina Brown book, but saw her interview with Washington Post. She knows absolutely nothing about Meghan, and it seems did not even bother to research her. She claims she has a temper? really? the angry black woman trope? Because absolutely everyone she has ever worked with has said MM is sweet natured, from colleagues in the film industry, school to charities. She did not even seem to know that she was a UN advocate, knows nothing about her work with women, girls, water etc. Tina knows absolutely nothing !

Chilledchablis1 · 29/04/2022 19:14

“She knows absolutely nothing about Meghan “

and you know everything ?

notanotheroneagain · 29/04/2022 20:10

I did not say I know everything about her, but it seems I know more than Brown, who is writing a book.

Really ? Why don’t you write a book ? Tom Bower’s book about MM is due to be released soon ; he is renowned for his meticulous research . Do you know more than him too ?
if so , you could have a best seller on your hands !

CathyorClaire · 29/04/2022 20:30

knows nothing about her work with women, girls, water etc

Can you elaborate on the 'etc'?

The last reference I can find to the work with water is in 2017. Is there something more current?

Do you think it's strange that Archewell raked in less in donations than the Sussexes paid to lawyers last year?

What do you make of the Travalyst accounts (extensively funded when the Royal Foundation was dissolved) and the unidentified creditors due being pretty much equal to current assets despite draconian travel restrictions during the pandemic?

Nothing you have said makes it sound like you do. 🤔

Gilmorehill · 29/04/2022 20:58

It seems there is a always a book coming about the royals. Who buys them?!

Goodness knows.

I rely on the juiciest bits being breathlessly written up in the tabloids.

Never let me down yet Grin

Moat of what is in the book is already public knowledge. Some of the facts about Andrew are pretty mind boggling. I think it’s quite well balanced if written in an irritating style.
The bits on Meghan are all facts . She is knowledgeable. I’m not sure there is much that is new though.

Gilmorehill · 30/04/2022 08:47

Me too! I didn’t even buy the Andrew Morton Diana book. The Times published more than enough.

Soffit · 30/04/2022 12:25

I think the Palace officials are having fun with this one. H & M have rejected that sort of 'service' for their definition of 'service' which has been hastily and vindictively cobbled together. They would find it hard to justify returning to the balcony. But .. but..but, their merching would benefit so very much. All the digs and spats reported secondhand (and third hand) are never going to draw the crowds as much as this would. I suppose they could always say that it confirms to 'their truth' to do it after cutting off their nose to spite their face. Or that they are looking out for HMQ and protecting her from the wicked suited army. The Palace will definitely have the last laugh on this one.

I think what H and M do in the future will very much depend on the success of their Netflix and Spotify deals . So far it’s not looking promising but who knows ?
they have huge outgoings with mortgage, security , staff etc so need a high income . If that isn’t forthcoming they will have to rethink .

“Is it 3 years they have been away now?”

They left in early 2020 , then said a year later that they wouldn’t return .
So much has happened since they were married less than 4 years ago!

Not sure about Harry having "several high profile successful projects". Yes, he has Invictus, but that is a holdover from his royal days. Neither of them have created much by way of "high profile successful projects" in their two years of 'freedom'.

As for' making money' well, they're going to need to make lots of it, year after year, if they want to fund their lifestyle. They have so far produced nothing for Netflix or Spotify so won't have seen much money from them yet. I agree with @Chilledchablis1 that their future earning power will depend largely on the outcome of these deals.

Soffit · 30/04/2022 16:52

I am really 🙄about the mistaken belief that Harry created Invictus. He definitely didn't. There was a project already running which he basically took over in it's early stages and completely made his own. There is quite a lot of information about it online. I think it is great that he is committed to it and happy to be seen as a founder with such vision but it is possibly unfair of him to take all the credit.

As for the balcony, HMQ would probably love to have Harry on the balcony for what may well be the last time. It is probably really difficult to miss your grandson but have his insufferable, money-seeking wife tag along forever more. He could easily leave the drama aside for just a few hours and fly in alone and do it. I doubt anybody else cares about seeing Meghan and the kids (despite what she thinks). The focus would always be on K &W's lovely children.

I’m sure the Queen would care about seeing Harry and Meghans children. And Archie and Lilibet will no doubt be lovely children too.
