First visit of royal tour cancelled because of local protest

Just seen on sky news William and Kates visit to a farm in the Caribbean was cancelled becsuse of a local protest. I am with these locals. From their point of view why should those two very entitled unelected multi millionaires who have virtually nothing to do with their country be visiting and expecting to be honoured and bowed and scraped to. They are no better or important than anybody else.

It would be better if the letter was addressed to both of them, and not to ‘Kate’. The tone is all wrong too.

notanotheroneagain · 23/03/2022 17:56

It's from a Women's association.

Serenster · 23/03/2022 18:12

@Samcro

maybe they shouldn't have gone somewhere that had fences like that round it. what ever the reasons. the picture looks awful.
Given that it is the Jamaican government who will have suggested the trip itinerary to Kensington Palace, and then agreed it with them, maybe you should let them know that you have strong opinions about where you think they should host foreign visitors, then?
Roussette · 23/03/2022 19:26

OTOH maybe their aides who probably scope these places out could've checked?

That's what they're there for after all and what we pay for

Serenster · 23/03/2022 19:43

I mean, it’s perfectly possible that the people who okayed them meeting locals to play a football match on a local football ground that happened to be surrounded by a fence (as millions of community sports grounds around the world are..) did not foresee that the huge turnout of excited locals who thronged to see them and put their hands through the fence hoping to be greeted would be mischievously/maliciously characterised as the Royal visitors mindlessly greeting people in a cage. Because, let’s face it, that’s a pretty biased interpretation.

Roussette · 23/03/2022 19:48

Maybe

All I know is aides go out well in advance checking it all out.

No bias from me
Bad optics and v unfortunate

notanotheroneagain · 23/03/2022 19:48

Those were Rasheed's fans.

The recoil. Goodness me, those pictures look absolutely vile !

Serenster · 23/03/2022 19:56

Why, not another again? The children are standing behind the fence that surrounds the football ground hoping to have their hands touched by the visiting royals.

Please tell me exactly which bit of this is vile?

SnottyLottie · 23/03/2022 19:59

People should be careful posting snap shots and not reflecting the whole picture or wider context of the situation.

This is why Lisa Hanna is being accused of being rude and snubbing Kate when no such thing happened.

It’s not fair on anyone.

Roussette · 23/03/2022 19:59

Even saying "they are hoping to have their hands touched by royals" is yuk

Roussette · 23/03/2022 20:00

There's stuff out there Snotty, that really did happen. Won't link it. It's out there

Serenster · 23/03/2022 20:03

I mean, they were exercising their own free will to do so, Roussette. Clearly it’s not a choice you’d make, but nice of you to be so utterly dismissive of other people’s choices. I guess they just aren’t as enlightened as you?
Roussette · 23/03/2022 20:05

Enlightened?
They were kids

Serenster · 23/03/2022 20:07

So why is their behaviour yuk?

Roussette · 23/03/2022 20:10

Their behaviour?

They were young kids with probably a deprived life there in their masses to look at a pretty princess and husband whose ancestors owned their land

If you don't understand why it's yuk, I really can't help you

Serenster · 23/03/2022 20:17

That’s some pretty sweeping assumptions you’re making about the people in the pictures there Rousette.
Serenster · 23/03/2022 20:19

Anyway, at least the pretty princess and husband whose ancestors owned the land weren’t standing there telling us how no one was paying enough attention to their wellbeing.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/03/2022 20:25

Considering how "unwelcome" we keep being told they are, it's perhaps surprising that the crowd behind the fence came at all, and from the look of things they were hardly there to protest their presence

I'd say the awful looking fence situation might have arisen from their government not expecting many to be interested, but again, if that's the case why invite W&K at all?

SnottyLottie · 23/03/2022 20:27

There may be things out there Rousette but what I’m trying to argue is that if you don’t contextualise the whole image or situation, people end up in trouble.

Did Kate recoil because she doesn’t like black people or the common folk? Or did she back away because she didn’t want to be touched (there was a clip the other month of her ‘recoiling’ at her husband’s touch yet I don’t doubt that she loves her husband). Is Lisa Hanna rude for shunning Kate during a diplomatic tour? Or was it a misunderstanding that the general public cannot see/hear (they were seen laughing and chatting throughout the event).

Context and the overall picture is everything and I suspect the media and certain people with agendas (on both sides) like creating mischief!

Roussette · 23/03/2022 20:48

I agree contxt is everything. However, I believe this is a badly timed royal tour and it's not really successful.

Puzzled I believe the crowd were there because of Raheem Sterling primarily

Roussette · 23/03/2022 20:53

Gosh Serenster shoehorn in other royals to have a go at why don't you lol

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/03/2022 21:11

I believe the crowd were there because of Raheem Sterling primarily

Could be, yes, though that wouldn't explain the reaching hands at this event or the seemingly mostly happy crowds elsewhere

Slight tangent I know, but elsewhere there's a ridiculous caption attached to a pic of Kate greeting a child: "Kate takes a knee", completely ignoring that she nearly always greets children with a two-kneed crouch.
I make no comment on the merit of taking the knee, but it just struck me as a classic example of sticking whatever interpretation's wanted onto a simple image

Roussette · 23/03/2022 21:16

I haven't seen that Puzzled and I agree that sounds daft. Who wouldn't crouch down to talk to a child

Serenster · 23/03/2022 22:08

@Roussette

Gosh Serenster shoehorn in other royals to have a go at why don't you lol
Why the lol? You surely know that Omid Scobie has picked up this manufactured narrative and run with it on twitter, and Meghan’s most vehement supporters on this board are now running with it here in turn. Please don’t insult our intelligence by suggesting this is all completely coincidental!

Reporters who were actually there are rolling their eyes at it. Raheem Sterling posted photos of himself doing exactly the same thing.

Roussette · 24/03/2022 04:12

I 'surely' know *none" of that NO. I just commented on what I saw, saying it was bad optics afaic. That is all.
I do not follow Scobie but you seem to be joining up dots about me and saying I'm insulting 'our' intelligence?? No idea who. You're the only one who's gone down this route on here

I was on a thread about the royal tour or so I thought, hence the lol because of the sideswipe at MM which has obviously incensed you.
Assume and post what you want, I won't be responding to you again on this, as I can see the way this is going.
