Why is Andrew allegedly the Queen's "favourite son"?

I have read this a few times over the years and yesterday mentioned in most media outlets.
The Queen seems like a sensible sort with good judgement, and he has this reputation as a sleazy lazy twonk.
Of course I know from mn about the golden child syndrome who is actually pretty useless, but surely the Queen is above such things?
If anyone has any ideas on this I'd love to know because I'm stumped! (I'm also procrastinating because I'm on a deadline)

I'm old enough to remember that when Prince Andrew was younger he dated an actor/photographer called Koo Stark. They eventually split up and media coverage was divided between those who said Andrew was put under pressure by the Queen because Koo had been in a film depicting lesbian bondage with a bit of SM (something like that anyway, definitely racy for the time) and those who said the relationship ended because of the huge media attention they received.

I think he was always quite loyal to her. There were strong rumours that he bailed her out financially more than once years after they broke up.

Harry bears a resemblance to Edward & Charles, it’s the eyes that all look so similar

Perhaps Andrew was the baby that brought the queens marriage back on track, perhaps Andrew made the Queen laugh and smile more and the press latched onto this and decided Andrew was the queens favourite

PinkPiranha11 · 15/01/2022 07:37

Just have a look at pictures of Lord Porchester as a younger man & compare with a picture of Andrew in the 80s/90s. It’s fairly obvious. All the other 3 royal children are fairly lean/wiry types (like Phillip) and Andrew is burly. Again, look at all the Porchesters. Totally different personality to the other 3 too.

@AllThePogs

Photos of all three. It is far easier to see the true shape of Harry's face before he had a beard. I have zero idea if there could be any truth to the rumours. I don't think it really matters either way except for the people directly involved. But I don't think photos can prove or disprove it.
Harry has the same nose and eyes and position of eyes, same mouth, same grin/smile etc as Charles....he even has a similar fuzziness to his hair...

The only resemblance to James is the hair colour...and that's only vaguely

SnowBrussels · 15/01/2022 07:46

If that was true, it would make him half-brother-in-law to Clodagh McKenna from This Morning

@CoolShoeshine

I once heard on the tv it was because he had a different dad. Confused

@Stiffcondomhat

Edward would be my favourite. He's awesomely low key and married well.
He hasn't always been so low maintenance.
Lubeyboobyalt · 15/01/2022 08:00

Because he was the first born after the 'duty' children, the heir and a spare that she didn't get to bond or be with as much.

God, I'm glad I'm not royal. Speculating wildly about the previous sexual morality of a 95 year old woman who none of us know, when there is zero, really zero, evidence she was ever interested in anyone other than her late husband (from her early teens) let alone having children by them.

I think Andrew came along when she was able to be at home and spend time with him as a baby/toddler. Maybe he is thus more bothered about her, consequently. Other than that, search me.

I think it is considered normal in Royal and Upper Class circles to have long standing affairs outside your marriage.

I suppose it stems back from the days when you had an arranged marriage to someone suitable but then found your fun elsewhere.

I think it was fairly heavily hinted that PP had several "companions" so I like to think that HMQ gave as good as she got and had her own fun. I day good on her.

Cissyandflora · 15/01/2022 08:17

The Queen is on here you know. She’s just.a mother like any of us in real life. (Her username is very similar to her actual name and I spotted her years ago!)

Gargellen · 15/01/2022 08:17

The fake sheik thing was Sarah Ferguson not Sophie Wessex or have they both been at it?

Stiffcondomhat · 15/01/2022 08:22

In that very British scandal program the implication was that all the aristos were at it but they were annoyed with the her (duchess of argyl) for bringing it to the attention of the common people.

Must have been both

Took the Wessexes decades to live it down

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/01/2022 08:25

Google Lord Porchester’s grandchildren and compare them to Andrews daughters. I can’t link.

HeadNorth · 15/01/2022 08:29

Well if we are speculating.. queenie strikes me a pretty cold mum, she seems to actively dislike Charles and wants to keep of the throne as long as possible, out of spite. So maybe Andrew is her 'favourite' is as much as she can bear him more than Charles (I think Philip also despised Charles and thought he was a wimp because he couldn't hack Gordonstoun).

Imagination running riot on here ! Grin

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/01/2022 08:43

@Anotherhill

How old are you OP? Because when I was much younger Andrew was the good looking helicopter pilot fought for his country and seemed less stuffy and more fun than Charles. Obviously never met any of them but that was my teenage impression in the early 80s.
Same here. I used to think it was a pity he wasn’t the eldest - he’d make a better king. Obviously that was long ago, though.
ItsDisneyBitch · 15/01/2022 08:43

I like Anne - no nonsense and her kids seem pretty grounded.
Zara seems lovely.

I thought Anne was Philips favourite because she was so sporty but again that might be the crown telling me so.

Andrew is an odious creature, years and years of
People telling him yes of course he thinks he is entitled to do exactly as he pleases.

I think it’s been well documented and admitted by Charles his parents weren’t exactly forthcoming with the affection when he was small.

Stiffcondomhat · 15/01/2022 08:45

Frankie Herbert, porchies granddaughter. She looks like a kardashian! Similar to.eugenie.

@Sarahlou63 Harry is the spot of a young lord Spencer go find pictures of him in his teens and you can see where Harry has his genes from.

Yes how spiteful of the queen not dying to make way for charles what a cow The alternative is abdication which she would never do knowing the impact her uncle doing it had on her father and changed the course of her life
ShepherdMoons · 15/01/2022 08:56

I don't think the queen would have cheated on Philip. Having said that I looked at Lord Porchester and there is a resemblance between him and Andrew. They are all probably related though in a royal, cousiny way.

dottiedodah · 15/01/2022 09:05

I think Prince Charles had always had the weight of expectation, of being a future king weighing upon him, from quite an early age really.When the Queen had PA ,she was slightly older and a more relaxed mum than she had been to PC and Princess Anne . She has possibly indulged him more as a result of that.As a young man he was very dashing, and a helicopter pilot and so on .Many girlfriends and lots of girls fancying him .As an older man still very spoilt, and entitled .Virginia Giuffre is reported to be less interested in a pay off ,and more about Vindication for her .She has done nothing wrong as far as I can tell ,and deserves a day in Court to give her side of this story!

UserBot314 · 15/01/2022 09:07

@KeepingAnOpenMind

The Queen and Prince Philip were third cousins. Both of them pretty extraordinary people… but their kids? Don’t marry your cousins folks!
ha ha this is true. I think the queen and p philip were both quite 'special' - royalty aside, marrying well aside, they were both very attractive but also had something about them. Although Anne and Andrew were attractive in their younger years, none of their children inherited the certain something. I know that doesn't matter because it's just other people's perceptions! 99% of us get by without the ''certain something'' and if you're a royal you certainly get by without it.
UserBot314 · 15/01/2022 09:13

Frankie Herbert doesn't look anything like Eugenie imo. They both have regular features and brown hair and could, if they styled themselves the same Kardashian kind of way look like they were related. Absolutely meaningless though.

As for Harry and James Hewitt, imo that is the most boring rumour ever circulated because anybody with a pair of eyes in their head can see he has the same close set eyes as Charles, a less pronounced version of the same nose, same face shape as prince philip............

We don't need these rumours. The royals provide more than enough to disappoint with their very real behaviour.
