I'm old enough to remember that when Prince Andrew was younger he dated an actor/photographer called Koo Stark. They eventually split up and media coverage was divided between those who said Andrew was put under pressure by the Queen because Koo had been in a film depicting lesbian bondage with a bit of SM (something like that anyway, definitely racy for the time) and those who said the relationship ended because of the huge media attention they received.
I think that the younger son role has always been very difficult for all monarchies. Prince Charles and Prince William both do the 'uneasy lies the head that wears the crown' thing but how do you prepare someone to be the 'spare' when there is a remote chance they might be needed to accede to the throne? I don't know what happens in other countries, especially those where girls were always equal to boys in the line of succession but I have a vague impression that not all the Monaco royal family are very dutiful.
There have always been media reports that Prince Andrew is very conscious of his status - for instance wanting to wear Rear Admiral dress at the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral - but at the same time feels very hard done by. The does fit in a bit with the idea that he has been indulged by the Queen, if not the wider royal family.
I am useless at seeing resemblances - I looked at Lord Porchester and thought he looked more like William - clearly impossible - but it was quite sad seeing all the photos of Lord Porchester and the Queen cheering at the races when the last few years have been more difficult for her.
I do find the posts criticising people for commenting on the life of a celebrity/royal a bit tiresome. It's clear from the thread titles what they are going to be about so there's no need to read them. It's different if individual comments are offensive or discriminatory but most are not.
A reminder that after the warming pan scandal (in which James was accused of smuggling a baby into Mary of Modena's bedchamber to ensure a Catholic would succeed the throne, the Home Secretary had to attend royal births to ensure there was no trickery. The last time that happened was for the birth of the Queen. Now that IS unnecessary scrutiny!
