The royal family

Why is Andrew allegedly the Queen's "favourite son"?

I have read this a few times over the years and yesterday mentioned in most media outlets.
The Queen seems like a sensible sort with good judgement, and he has this reputation as a sleazy lazy twonk.
Of course I know from mn about the golden child syndrome who is actually pretty useless, but surely the Queen is above such things?
If anyone has any ideas on this I'd love to know because I'm stumped! (I'm also procrastinating because I'm on a deadline)

@Iamthewombat

I just looked at the Rolex website. The equestrians they sponsor are:
  • a German who is the first woman to be no. 1 in the world, and who has won three Olympic medals at three separate games.
  • a German woman who is the world’s most successful dressage rider, having won six Olympic golds at five separate Olympic Games.
  • a male Canadian Olympic champion
  • a male, French, Olympic gold medalist
  • an American male world no 1
  • a Scottish male grand slam winner
  • two separate Swiss male gold medalists, both of whom have recently been world No 1
  • Er, Zara Tindall

Are you seriously suggesting that ol’ Zara, with her team silver from 2012, measures up to that lot? Why is she the only British woman attracting sponsorship when her medal is ten years old? It couldn’t be because she is royal, could it?

I put my hands up and confess I know nothing about which equestrians won what at the Olympics and the only person on that list that I know is Zara Tindall. If lots of people are like me then the Rolex PR people will think she is far more useful for the British market. It might not be fair but she is an Olympic medallist and she's been offered a deal like loads of other Olympians so I can't see the problem.

Zara was also World Champion - something which shouldnt be overlooked

@zara gets those deals because she is part of the Royal Family.

It makes me laugh to see me being held up as a monarch lover. Not only am I a republican, but I'm Irish and Republican- in general I'd like to be as far removed from the Royal family as possible.

What I am though is a feminist, and I hate seeing a thread about a sleaze-ball sex offender turn into one slagging off a woman's character based on her looks and her privilege.

AllThePogs · 18/01/2022 09:26

I agree @daschundsanddancer any feminist should be taking this approach.

@Iamthewombat

I am having a great laugh at the Tindalls’ enthusiastic toadies. The royal family must love people like you. Not only do you know your place, which is beneath them, you love it.
My place is only beneath them in the temporal way, in the way in which the society of this country is organised, in the same way that most people would have considered me to be beneath my office manager, who had the power to sack me or make my life very difficult, or the two snobby girls I went to primary school with, and looked down me and a good many others for all their conceited lives. Human beings have a tendency to elevate and adore. It might be David Beckham for some or that well-known TV personality who seemed nice but the taxi-driver said he was a bit of a bastard in real life.
