And I am too. Only wish I could look as good as Kate! I wonder how they will celebrate?

@gilorga

I just don't understand it... well I do actually and it ain't pretty.

They want to write a totally nauseatingly complimentary piece about Kate and her 40th birthday. To get the necessary clicks they have to throw in something in the headlines like how Meghan upset Kate. Because, let's face it, on it's own, a puff piece about Kate is not going to be that exciting. Add big bad Meghan into it, and voila, they have their clicks.

gilorga · 01/01/2022 13:10

Why can't an alleged affair be discussed? Have some posters on here applied their own super injunction ?!

I'm not even particularly interested in the alleged affair, more the machiavellian ways of the press. But I didn't realise it was forbidden!

gilorga · 01/01/2022 13:11

@HNY2022 fair point, it's weird to not write just about the rumours.

Roussette · 01/01/2022 13:11

I totally agree. Manipulation of the press is far more interesting. Double standards. Hypocrisy and all of that.

HNY2022 · 01/01/2022 13:12

@gilorga

If this all happened years ago what made it trend on twitter again?
I did come across the rumours at the time but didn’t pay attention to them, but what made it blow up this time was someone responded to a tweet by, I think, a Sun or Daily Mail journalist about Meghan and Harry by referring to the story.
gilorga · 01/01/2022 13:13

@Roussette but why are so many incapable of seeing that it's ludicrous.

I remember reading a headline about some designer who stole money or was bankrupt & the associated photo was Meghan. I mean wtf!!

HNY2022 · 01/01/2022 13:14

@Roussette

If this story is true, then it is far more damaging for freedom of press than anything about Meghan’s copyright case.

It is also worrying that our taxes may have been used to pay to cover a story, and the role the media played in manipulating the public against Harry and Meghan.

gilorga · 01/01/2022 13:14

having said I guess they are giving people like @TheLadyOfShallnott exactly what they want. And she claims to have the moral high ground!

Roussette · 01/01/2022 13:15

Lol.... yes... if there was suddenly a shortage of avocados due to lack of lorry drivers, there would be a pic of Meghan!

Roussette · 01/01/2022 13:16

HNY2022 You've hit the nail on the head there

Jooox · 01/01/2022 13:16

@HNY2022 yes but there was also a ban on here. Can’t remember if it was all royal or just Garry and Meghan threads. People weren’t allowed to share stories or rumours from the daily Mail or celeb gossip sites. That’s probably what a PP is referring to.

Jooox · 01/01/2022 13:17

Garry Grin

AliceAldridge · 01/01/2022 13:17

what made it trend on twitter again?

Someone tweeted something about it again, and Twitter has millions of 'Sussex Squad' fans who like to retweet anything bad said about PW and K. That's why it was trending. I have no idea about any of the facts or legalities. I don't really care. However, I do find it interesting that Meghan and Harry have never referred to any of these fans when decrying social media toxicity.

gilorga · 01/01/2022 13:17

The volte face about them was so strange & seemed to come from nowhere. I don't know the ins & outs but couldn't work out what they did that was so deserving of the vitriol. wear expensive clothes, be environmentally hypocritical, act spoilt & engage in positive PR. Surely that's what all celebs do? 😆

ivykaty44 · 01/01/2022 13:18

Roussette, the way the press operate and all club together and decide to not go with a story is rather like prisoners code of conduct imo

years ago I was sat with a sub editor of a large broad sheet who informed us about John Majors affair - this would have been early 1990s. apparently there was no need to publish and all the papers had decided the same. it was many years later I found out who the affair was with when it was included in her book.

newspapers sit on news if they want the public to think a certain way, its not just super injunctions that prevent the broadcast

Roussette · 01/01/2022 13:18

On the other side of the coin, I find it interesting that William and Kate and any of the RF have not decried any of the vitriolic press about M&H at any point. Works both ways.

Jooox · 01/01/2022 13:19

Anyway how did everyone else spend their 40th?
A good friend of mine has hers coming up and she’s had a dreadful few years so I’m going to plan something nice for her.

gilorga · 01/01/2022 13:20

Ok, I missed that

Roussette · 01/01/2022 13:20

ivykaty That's interesting Smile

Manipulation of the public for sure

Roussette · 01/01/2022 13:20

Joox it was so long ago, I can barely remember!

HNY2022 · 01/01/2022 13:21

It was sudden. They were very popular after the Australia trip but suddenly the tide turned. I don’t know the timeline though of when the affair supposedly happened and when the press turned against Meghan & Harry.

But also, the tabloids love a villain, it’s click bait for them as it brings in revenue.

HNY2022 · 01/01/2022 13:23

@ivykaty44 That is interesting, so perhaps even not a super injunction after all. You’d think at least someone would print something about it, although maybe that’s what the story about Kate falling out with the affair partner was getting at.

debbrianna · 01/01/2022 13:25

The dailymail did an article about a billae affair and it was coded. That's how people found out. A few people in the upper circles twitted about it as being common knowledge.

Lovemusic33 · 01/01/2022 13:26

Me too 😬

I think I look younger than will but not Kate 🤣

gilorga · 01/01/2022 13:27

I was waiting for a train years ago & someone had left a magazine, it may have been Time. However there was a really interesting story about Tiger Woods & the press.
How his philandering had been open knowledge for years. One reporter had been following him & had pictures etc & they eventually decided that X date they would go live with the story that they had sat on for a while.
Meanwhile Tiger had either agreed to a cover story owned by another magazine from the same publishing house or signed up to promote something (can't remember exactly but all under the same umbrella company). So they suppressed the story again as it was more valuable to have him on side.
When the golf club incident happened they were hesitant to initially go with the cheating story but decided to go with it as it was going to come out.
