I mentioned the 'Sussex squad'. I am not on any side or really even that interested. I just saw this on active threads and clicked, thinking it was a thread about Kate's 40th (you live and learn).
I should explain that 'Sussex Squad' is what certain 'Tweeters' actually call themselves and if you read their posts (as I have occasionally, despite barely going on Twitter) it goes a lot further than being supportive of Meghan and Harry. I'm not suggesting anyone here is jealous of Kate or that posters here have to take a 'side'. Or that it was right for the Royal Family to maintain a 'don't complain and never explain' stance in the face of racism. I agree, there is a lot that it would be great to have explained. Prince Andrew's antics for example.
I was just explaining why it is trending on Twitter. Some of the 'fandom' extends to trolling, including of Kate, but Meghan and Harry (who take a stance on this) have never mentioned it. I can understand why they might take a 'tit for tat' approach to keeping quiet on it. It just doesn't tie in with their stated view on social media bullying.
I agree that the press are also bullying, manipulative and it is tiring. But then, royals and other figures also use the press to their advantage, which was the criticism of Diana (and Charles, for that matter). On the other hand rich people can buy injuctions or can afford to pay large lawyer bills to limit press freedom.
All aspects of it are farcical. I hated it even when Diana was alive and I was 19 when she died. I agree that the RF needs to slim down to a low-key European model when the Queen dies.
