For those that are interested - I know I am.

Does anyone know when the appeal judgement will be made.

The red dress was more white tie IMO.

Regardless, this is the well-worn path of criticising a woman for what she wears. There's no law against wearing a big red dress and I can't see it has much relevance to anything being discussed. Many of the other female attendees looked very glamorous as well. They probably all 'outshone' their partners in that sense - isn't that what we as a society expect women to do? Which is a whole different discussion. I thought she looked beautiful and very happy and I don't really care what she wears as long as it isn't horrifically inappropriate - which it wasn't.

TitledLady · 14/11/2021 13:48

Black tie is anything from cocktail to long evening dress which is what the other guests were wearing. Meghan went full on white tie ball gown. It is considered the height of bad manners to our dress your hosts though and considering it was a military occasion, was another strange misstep although it was a great photo op which Meghan will have been aware of.

TitledLady · 14/11/2021 13:49

Out dress. Not our dress

rubicscubicle · 14/11/2021 13:50

The US media mainly ignores the actions of people who are not deemed of significant importance or well enough known.

I assume you are referring to the the MoS here. Yes, most Americans probably have no idea what that stands for or even heard of them.

H&M had plenty of coverage this week in the US. For their NY trip, from the gala, to other veteran visits. There was also the rewired and deal book panels.

upinaballoon · 14/11/2021 13:58

I thought the design of the red dress was somewhat based on the shape/petals of a red poppy.

rubicscubicle · 14/11/2021 13:58

Omid does not wait till end of the month to break news on Harpers Bazaar. He writes his story online as he has it, and says something along the lines I/We/ here at harpers bazaar have been exclusively told etc.

rubicscubicle · 14/11/2021 14:00

The criticism of the dress is just plain ridiculous and petty and mean. I don't think other royals get this.

And people are going to tell us they are neutral about Meghan.

Serious question. Have you never seen the ridicule and criticism the York Sisters and their mother have always endured?
Roussette · 14/11/2021 14:05

Like hijacking a veterans event in a wholly inappropriate red ballgown

For goodness sake, they were invited and she can wear what she wants. Imagine if I came on a thread about W&K and started criticising what she wore to that Bond film. Saying it was inappropriate, too glitzy or whatever... I would be roundly (and quite rightly) jumped on. Why can't she wear a red gown? She's worn red before, it suits her.

It just makes these threads look pathetic. Desperation in trying to find something, anything, to criticise her on.

smilesy · 14/11/2021 14:05

I do agree that the dress isn’t really relevant but I absolutely disagree that other royals don’t get criticism for what they wear. I’m fact, who in the public eye does not get criticised for what they wear. Rightly or wrongly?

LondonWolf · 14/11/2021 14:08

I’ve also just googled "Kate clothing criticism" and multiple links came up.

Camilla, interestingly had none apart from one piece of breathless reporting on how she went from “middle aged frump” to fashion icon 🙄

OverByYer · 14/11/2021 14:09

I just watched a YouTube video of them arriving at the event, I thought Meghan looked quite tense and she kept grabbing at Harry’s hand.
I thought it was a nice dress but didn’t fit her properly, too loose on the bust and too tight across her back. She has fabulous shoulders so don’t blame her for showing them off.

catinboots123 · 14/11/2021 14:09

I've looked just at the photos of the gala online and Meghan was waaaay overdressed compared to the other female attendees

OP posts:
Roussette · 14/11/2021 14:12

And to add insult to injury it seemed very poorly fitted

Maybe drop a line to her dressmaker/designer/whoever and let them know, perhaps they'll be very grateful for your input!

I do agree that the dress isn’t really relevant but I absolutely disagree that other royals don’t get criticism for what they wear

Kate rarely does. I once said years ago I preferred Meghan's style to Kate's but I understood why given her position, her style would be different. I just wasnt a fan of A line type dresses. I got flamed good and proper! We're not allowed to criticise what Kate wears. Only Meghan.

Rinoachicken · 14/11/2021 14:15

Does anyone remember on one single occasion the queen wore a dress by a new designer that was pretty universally felt to be a shocker? It had a black bodice and a rainbow skirt?? She never wore anything like it ever again!

Serenster · 14/11/2021 14:18

There are literally tens of forums out there that critique what all the royal ladies where. Some as part of their coverage of celebrities, some just focussing on royals. Tens and tens of Instagram accounts, too. Threads and threads on this site too.

It may surprise you to know Roussette that not everyone liked Kate’s gold dress, and not everyone disliked Meghan’s red dress. The appropriateness of both of them ( I.e. they were too flashy) was mentioned in relation to both.

Rinoachicken · 14/11/2021 14:19

Found it! Was slightly mistaken re the colour but still - not a great look!

And I’m sorry, if you truly believe that no other royal except Meghan is criticised for their outfits then you really have been living in a cupboard.

Do you not recall the endless criticism of Kate’s fly away hems???

If they are criticised less it’s because they actually listen to the people around them who are advising them on what would be most suitable!

smilesy · 14/11/2021 14:19

I think,Roussette, the criticism referred to is not meant to be confined to criticism on here or yours in particular 🤣. As pp have said, there is plenty of criticism of the DoC’s choice of clothes if you Google it.

Rinoachicken · 14/11/2021 14:20

And yes, it’s not about how nice or not the dress was or how lovely she looked in it, it is about the appropriateness of the dress within the context of the event.

Roussette · 14/11/2021 14:20

Yes, that has surprised me greatly thanks Serenster

I never saw any criticism of Kate's dress. But I don't read every thread, perhaps it was Style in Beauty or something. And I'm not on IG. I was talking about MN

Roussette · 14/11/2021 14:22

Rinoachicken Is it in S&B? I don't go on there and I live in a house not a cupboard.

I was talking about critcism of Meghan's clothes, compared to Kate. Not the queen.

Yes smilesy, I am talking about on MN. As I said

smilesy · 14/11/2021 14:27

Ah ok Roussette, myself and others meant criticism on general. There is a world outside MN. Hates to believe Iknow 😂

smilesy · 14/11/2021 14:28

Hard to believe 🙄🤣

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 14/11/2021 14:30

We're not allowed to criticise what Kate wears. Only Meghan

As others have said, there are tons of threads and sites out there where this happens. Threads specifically, on some forums, to criticise Kate, her looks, her clothes, her weight, any number of things.

It really is extraordinary to imagine this happens only to Meghan and has never happened to other royal wives. (Though it seems to be the view Meghan herself holds.) You may not be personally reading it all, but you can surely imagine it exists? I've never been to Argentina but I know it's there!

I've also seen criticism of Kate on here. Just inaccurate, again, to say it isn't allowed.

Roussette · 14/11/2021 14:31

Skip As I've said more than once. I am talking about on MN.

Not other sites.
