The royal family

In what capacity are Harry and Meghan visiting New York

IsabelBeck · 25/09/2021 10:20

They are no longer working members of the Royal Family so have they gone to New York as private citizens?

How do they get to meet with Chelsea Clinton at the WHO offices and UN officials and politicians?

According to the Mail (I know, I know) they had federal protection.

Do Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (as they are styled there) have much clout in the US? Why?

I think Harry has achieved a huge amount in his life. I think it’s unfair to say he hasn’t.

And Megan is likely to have gone on with her acting.

I know some people don’t like them but there is no need to be unkind too.

When I am asking how they earn money etc I am genuinely wanting to know. Because Megan clearly can’t go back to acting now and Harry is limited given his status

Applesonthelawn · 25/09/2021 19:10

I don't think they have "a role" per se, it's just a question of them earning a living, for which they need to create a brand. To have a "role" you need to be endorsed by someone or a public body. Perhaps that's the purpose of the visit.
I would be very interested to know how they monetise this brand for their own purposes. Their lifestyle doesn't come cheap, they have a mortgage to pay etc., so I assume they must need to earn money.

But she was in one series - hardly Meryl Streep.

I concede Harry was in the army and set up Invictus etc but he seems to have fucked all that off now

LukeEvansWife · 25/09/2021 19:23

Harry is limited because he's not too bright and needs either the RF or Meghan

FreshFreesias · 25/09/2021 19:27

They both looked desperate.
Who goes to a school and reads from their own book?
What a joke.

ManifestingJoy · 25/09/2021 19:29

Yes, very self indulgent

Roussette · 25/09/2021 19:31

She did 114 episodes of Suits. Earning $50,000 per episode. Is that one series?
Don't think so.

No wonder they left given the vitriol on MN today about them.

We don't pay for them. Maybe concentrate on the member of the RF we do pay for hiding in palaces.

LukeEvansWife · 25/09/2021 19:32

One series as in Suits, not one season of it

SickAndTiredAgain · 25/09/2021 19:37

Umm plenty of people? We had authors come to our school and they’d read their books.

You can obviously have an opinion about the quality of her book (I’ve not read it), but it’s not that odd for a children’s author to read their book in a school, even if you think she was an odd choice for the school in general.

Shellfishblastard · 25/09/2021 19:43

She was in all of the earlier Suits. So most series as far as I can recall.

And our school has author visits where they read from their own book 🙄

I admit I’m not their biggest fan at the moment but I can’t stand unkindness just for the sake of being unkind. It’s really not nice at all.

Credit where credit is due etc.

They need to find a way to make money and survive

Suits is a SERIES She may have appeared in all SEASONS

But it is still one series. Not even one series like Game of Thrones. Just one average drama.

There's the Netflix money - though have they actually produced anything yet? They seem to have been on paternity/maternity leave for much longer than the amount of leave Americans usually get.

Shellfishblastard · 25/09/2021 20:47

@LukeEvansWife point taken, yes seasons

Shellfishblastard · 25/09/2021 20:58

Disagree about the average…I loved Suits. Not into things like GOT. It’s subjective really, whether you like MM or not.

LukeEvansWife · 25/09/2021 21:03

Yes but it didn't take off in the same way. It was not that popular. So she wasn't that well known as she was a one trick pony

Roussette · 25/09/2021 21:09
Hmm

A one trick pony earning $50,000 an episode for 114 of them... yeah right

IsabelBeck · 25/09/2021 21:16

Did she never get a raise?

Is Suits worth a watch?

One role. In a show that only a minority of people have heard of.
Shellfishblastard · 25/09/2021 21:21

I personally loved it. It’s my kind of thing though and GOT isn’t.

Suits was incredibly popular and did take off. Maybe not to the same extent as GOT but there is no point in pretending that it wasn’t successful just because you might not like MM 🙄 It ran for 9 seasons which I think says it all.

LukeEvansWife · 25/09/2021 21:29

To put it in perspective Allison Janney from the West Wing was paid $70,000 per episode. So what is MM's salary got to do with it?

Yeah it's because I don't like MM Hmm
Roussette · 25/09/2021 21:31

Haha hilarious!

No idea if she got a raise, maybe email the producers and ask?! I imagine so but it's not something that vexes me given that's a lot of dosh per episode

And your point is?

This is so funny to hear these daft and desperate barbs, it does make me laugh

SickAndTiredAgain · 25/09/2021 21:45

I’m not sure what the relative success of suits vs GoT has to do with anything.
Clearly suits was successful, 9 seasons is long - I personally quite liked it.
But MM now obviously has a lot more influence than any of her costars from suits (or anyone from GoT for that matter), and that comes from who she’s married to, not from her prior acting work. I don’t get the arguing over whether or not she was good/successful actress, it’s irrelevant isn’t it? It’s just a job she used to do. Would it make a difference if she was bad at it? Or if she wasn’t an actress at all, but something else equally unrelated to what she now does?

LukeEvansWife · 25/09/2021 22:11

The point being that she was hardly A list and if she hadn't married a prince, she would still be just another jobbing actor. All the arse lickers claim it was so awful that she had to give up a successful career Grin

LuchiMangsho · 25/09/2021 22:18

They are not in the same league as Kim K and Beyoncé in terms of name recognition in the US. Maybe in the UK but really really not in the US.
