The royal family

In what capacity are Harry and Meghan visiting New York

They are no longer working members of the Royal Family so have they gone to New York as private citizens?

How do they get to meet with Chelsea Clinton at the WHO offices and UN officials and politicians?

According to the Mail (I know, I know) they had federal protection.

Do Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (as they are styled there) have much clout in the US? Why?

@NerrSnerr

The Harry and Meghan is baffling. Not them, but the online interest in them. I'd love to do some research on the kind of people who are so invested in them they need to discuss what they're doing in such fine detail and why they do it.
Discussing them isn't being invested though. And if it is, your posting on here shows that you too are invested
rubicscubicle · 25/09/2021 11:52

Ah, another Harry and Meghan bashing thread.

Did the TV news cover this in the UK? Not much if they did as I watch thee news daily.
No doubt the Mail - who seem to have a personal vendetta against the couple- sold their papers to the likes of you by having a dig.

H&M can do whatever they want. This was not a royal visit, and the royal family does not have a monopoly on visits, and most people in the US did not give a shit about them before Meghan joined.

Yes, Harry and Meghan are influential, does not mean they want to force the public to put money into their purse like the rest of the royal family - it's optional.

Their brand no longer depends on being in the RF though, as has been evidenced in how much they are still being followed. The RF is large and no one pays much interest in others. They do go out, they do things, it's just that no one cares enough for much coverage.

amusedtodeath1 · 25/09/2021 11:53

I'd also like to do some research on the kinds of people who complain about people being overly invested in something without realising that by responding they are also "invested", in trying to ridicule people for having an opinion.

As opposed to all the arse licking threads here? It's called having a different opinion.
NerrSnerr · 25/09/2021 11:56

@LukeEvansWife but if you dislike them why give them the headspace.

I don't have strong opinions of them either way. I don't blame them from moving away, it's fair enough in my opinion.

trama · 25/09/2021 11:57

They're just there to show off, promote their brand, and pretend they have something interesting or significant to say. They have no expertise in anything but somehow feel we should be paying attention to their platitudes. How gracious of them.

The difference is that I don't dislike them. Why be invested in someone you don't like?

Because they keep popping up to show how much they value their privacy?

rubicscubicle · 25/09/2021 12:04

The 'privacy' chestnut, that everyone except H&M said.

Grin I know!

H&M are choosing a high profile life, so people will comment. Especially if their profile is entirely due to them using their royal titles.

@NerrSnerr why be invested in anyone you don't know, positive or negative?

LukeEvansWife · 25/09/2021 12:25
@NerrSnerr why be invested in anyone you don't know, positive or negative?
This! And why say you don't get invested as you don't care then waste time arguing?

NerrSnerr · 25/09/2021 12:26

@amusedtodeath1 genuinely don't know? I personally don't think I'm invested in H&M at all (this popped up on active and I had a read) but if commenting on one MN thread makes me invested then so be it. (Before anyone advance searches I may have commented on 2 or 3 H&M threads over a couple of years- just to be transparent).

I do think that starting threads or commenting multiple times a week or month about someone who you dislike is strange. It's probably less strange to discuss people you like (but I don't think I do that much either).

MolyHolyGuacamole · 25/09/2021 12:28

Just because they're no longer working members of the RF doesn't mean they're less famous and would still be at risk.

amusedtodeath1 · 25/09/2021 12:29

So you're just replying because your interested, right? Like everyone else.

bestbefore · 25/09/2021 12:30

There's an article on the telegraph today implying the styling and trip is leaning towards her running for President one day...can you imagine???

NerrSnerr · 25/09/2021 12:30

These threads are not put up due to interest are they? They're just put up to slag them off.

NerrSnerr · 25/09/2021 12:32

Anyway- I'm now becoming invested when I really don't care they were in NY. I'll hide the thread as I can't be arsed to argue and I'm sure no one can be arsed to argue back.

amusedtodeath1 · 25/09/2021 12:32

There's a difference between interested and invested. Some people have an opinion and have nothing better to do than have a debate on MN about people who put themselves in the public eye and have themselves been very critical of others. It's fair game. If you give out shite you gotta expect some back.

WinnieTheW0rm · 25/09/2021 12:36

I think it would be easier to understand why they are there (this event, others in future) when it's a little clearer what Archewell actually does.

The pandemic must have interrupted their plans considerably, but I guess it'll become clearer pretty soon

amusedtodeath1 · 25/09/2021 12:44

I read something about a vaccine manufacturing plant in Africa??? So a very good cause if I'm correct. It's just a shame they tarnished their popularity by being petty because they could do so much good.

amusedtodeath1 · 25/09/2021 12:47

Perhaps I should clarify before I get jumped on, when I say tarnished, I mean that talking negatively about others, repeatedly is harmful to all parties when it comes to PR.

They made Time's "Most Influential" list a couple of weeks ago.

That's the problem now that Trump's been President - anyone thinks they can do it!

Except I don't see what they have influenced. They haven't achieved anything. Plus they have shown that they will bite the hand that feeds them
