The royal family

In what capacity are Harry and Meghan visiting New York

They are no longer working members of the Royal Family so have they gone to New York as private citizens?

How do they get to meet with Chelsea Clinton at the WHO offices and UN officials and politicians?

According to the Mail (I know, I know) they had federal protection.

Do Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (as they are styled there) have much clout in the US? Why?

Who do H&M influence? What are they influencing people to do? Make statements about how the world should change but don't want their world to change?

Roussette · 26/09/2021 16:26

Are they talking about their royal connections, missed that bit. Let's not bring up titles when we have the likes of PA and SF continually flaunting theirs.

Harry will ALWAYS be the grandchild, son or brother if a reigning UK monarch. Accept it

smilesy · 26/09/2021 16:26

To be fair, the use of private jets for both the RF and H&M is a moot point. Sometimes it is the only practical and secure way for them to travel. However, H&M did not have to go to NY to take part in the Global Citizen event. One concert took place in LA. And throughout the trip, MM has been wearing very expensive clothes and jewellery, with many changes of outfit. As pp have said, it would have been nice to see her wear something that she has worn before since fashion is one of the most unsustainable industries on the planet at this moment in time. It was all a bit ostentatious IMO.

queenofarles · 26/09/2021 16:27

All Celebs and Royals are the like , Leo DiCaprio has no issues renting yachts or flying on private planes , and he is a very avid speaker on climate change!

smilesy · 26/09/2021 16:29

Of course he will, but you yourself have expressed your distaste for the RF as has Harry himself. So why would you accept Harry using his title if you feel, as is your right, that others should not 🤷‍♀️

@Reduceddutiesboredom

Imagine starting a discussion about Harry and Meghan when Prince Andrew has just admitted he’s been served papers. Surely that is of more “interest”, more importance, more noteworthy…

Or does being mean about two people you don’t know who haven’t actual done anything wrong sound more fun?

imagine having the capability to start your own thread on what you think is important
PreparationPreparationPrep · 26/09/2021 16:33

@queenofarles

PreparationPreparationPrep This is what I meant in my first post! Gosh wish I didn’t mention the Middleton part now Grin.

Anyone can get into aprivate school very very few get ( and remain) into excellent ones.

not everyone who went into Eton is a Boris Grin ,
So what is acceptable now ?
Eton , no
Winchester , yes ?
are we on the fence for Harrow?

@derxa Aaah - that make sense aspirational - Sorry @queenofarles I should have thought of that.!

Roussette · 26/09/2021 16:38

One word for you.
Andrew

Oh and setting precedents the Queen will want to avoid

queenofarles · 26/09/2021 16:43

I found that red suit a strange choice for school , something my DM , who is in her sixties , would wear for lunch at a spa , complete with a headband and sunglasses Grin
The first outfit was quite nice ,
but she always liked expensive clothes, rather see her wear what she wants , instead of an old navy shirt and skirt just because she is visiting less advantage children.

smilesy · 26/09/2021 16:50

@Roussette. What about Andrew? I agree he is odious and should not have his titles and I equally appreciate that he will not have them removed. I was not saying that H&M should have their titles removed, I was questioning why they would want to use them and their connections if they dislike the institution so much. Clearly their connections to the RF is useful to them. It just smacks of double standards.

Serenster · 26/09/2021 16:51

I find it very hard to get overly excited about the use of private flights and helicopters. I mean, sometimes they are the most practicable means of transport (Kate going up to Lake Windermere for a day trip last week with one engagement in the morning and one in the afternoon wasn’t practicable otherwise, and an overnight stay brings its own issues, including higher costs). They annoy me when people (I’m talking all people here, celebs as well as royals) use them not because there’s not another option, but because they can’t face slumming it with the plebs on a scheduled flight. Get over yourselves, basically. Grin

(And air travel is something we all need to get used to doing less of. That’s going to take time and effort to change everyone’s views and habit though. Going around calling everyone a hypocrite for seeing their family in Australia, or heading off for a beach holiday isn’t going to win hearts and minds though).

Roussette · 26/09/2021 16:55

I find the double standards of endless criticism of a couple supporting themselves, whilst a tax funded Prince dodging lawsuits in palaces a tad like that

Of course she shouldn’t have to wear an “old navy shirt and skirt”. That is not at all what I meant. I just thought it would be appropriate for someone concerned about the environment to wear fashion in a more sustainable way, whether when visiting children or on stage at a concert.

Zuluqueen · 26/09/2021 17:02

Always amazes me when HaM get slated for the same things the other royals do. It’s hilarious really. Before Meghan married Harry, was he slated for taking private jets or maybe he never did?. Meghan pays for her expensive clothes now, she can wear what she likes . The school in Harlem appreciated their visit & donations. I haven’t seen parents of those children complaining about what Meghan wore . Only seen the DM calling the Vax live concert wokestock whatever that means. Do people really still think being woke is an insult?.
Melba appreciated their visit & donation plus HaM they enjoyed some some soul food. Seems like some here are more aggrieved than AM & other Americans who met them . They are doing their own thing. I think there is RF worthy news like Charles’s trusted man scandal. I thought that would be more relevant to the UK taxpayers than Meghan’s engagement ring watch & clothes in another continent.
Oh and I haven’t heard Meghan lecturing anybody especially in the UK about the environment.

As you know, there is a very active thread about Andrew. It’s not either or.
OutwiththeOutCrowd · 26/09/2021 17:11

All these new outfits are such an extravagance! Meghan should take a leaf out of Prince Charles's book and have some lackey patch/mend her clothes.

@didireallysaythat

Maybe influencing people to spend sickening amounts on clothes and jewellery. Or buy mansions in LA. Or encourage people to earn ludicrous amounts because they trade off titles from an institution they despise . Or make programmes complaining about their families or writing ‘books’ about how very hard done by they are because Daddy won’t pay for them.
smilesy · 26/09/2021 17:14

The concert is organised by Global Citizen, who are not just highlighting vaccine equality, but climate change concerns and global poverty issues as well.

Roussette · 26/09/2021 17:15

@washeduponthebeach

Not active enough

I posted a development on PA early this morning

Response?

Zilch. Nada. Nowt

Washeduponthebeach · 26/09/2021 17:16

That’s cos we are waiting for developments. 🤔

Roussette · 26/09/2021 17:17

Nope.

It was about finances. A development.

See you over there when the next hearing takes place?

Roussette · 26/09/2021 17:19

@Zuluqueen

Spot on.

No one seems concerned about what our RF funded by us lives here do.

Charles and the donors etc

Desperate to sling some stuff at H&M

Viviennemary · 26/09/2021 17:19

I think its quite cheeky of them to want a royal christening and invitation for Christmas after going on Oprah and slating the royals. I hope William finds himself a complicated scarf to fiddle with if they show up. I don't want to see Andrew there either

ParsleyintheJar · 26/09/2021 17:19

To be fair to Meghan she has a difficult figure to dress. I have the same figure. A short torso with quite a thick waist with longer legs. Is fine if you are whippet thin but the moment you are carrying any weight - makes so many clothes look ill fitting and frumpy.

She should really be wearing clothes that elongate the torso - a good look would be a very slim fit cigarette pant leg with a longer looser top than finishes below the hip.

Catherine has a much easier frame to dress, long, narrow and lean - most clothes will look fantastic on her.

It must be very hard to be in the public eye and for the continual comparisons being made.

The DM salivates at printing the less flattering angles.
