So cute, love the photos of him at Wembley.
Especially the one of him hugging his Mum in excitement. Despite their wealth/ privilege they do seem to be a ‘normal’ family.
Wasn’t too fussed on Kate’s red earrings, though.

Most kids his age would pop a suit on for the opportunity to watch England from the Royal box. At my DS school DCs have to wear a shirt and clip on tie every day from year 3.

Geamhradh · 12/07/2021 09:48

@LIZS

I think the cameras were deliberately panning away from them at end. No pics of sobbing disappointed George to guilt the Italians!
Oh Italian social media is full of people taunting him and writing "now die" across his face. And having also woken up to a FB full of "fuck the Queen" and images of a coffin with England written on it being burned, I doubt anyone will be feeling guilty.
FuckyDoodleDoo · 12/07/2021 09:52

Pretty sure our esteemed leader Boris Johnson was wearing a football shirt in the royal box. 🤔

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 12/07/2021 09:56

I’m sure I’ve read that the habit of dressing the Cambridge kids in 1930s clothes for occasions when they’re on display is a means of demarcating their public life from their private life and they wear normal joggers and T shirts etc away from the cameras. I wouldn’t have thought that wearing a suit for a couple of hours was too much of a challenge for a (AFAWK) neurotypical seven year old.

RAOK · 12/07/2021 09:56

George’s reaction to the England goal at the beginning was fabulous!

Jacketpotato84 · 12/07/2021 09:56

Yeah but boris is not a royal! Prince George is

Ah that’s interesting, like a uniform to take off once ‘work’ is over.

It would have been sweet to see him in a football top though.

I wondered if it was to avoid online trolling of him like the little girl had after the Germany match. Future king really doesn’t need photos of him upset and possibly crying as a child and vile comments attached to it.
MotionActivatedDog · 12/07/2021 10:03

Our royals?
Suited and booted, stony faced and looking totally disinterested in one another.

They really weren’t stony faced and disinterested in each other!!

Geamhradh · 12/07/2021 10:03

@MotionActivatedDog

Afraid that ship has already sailed. The same Italians criticising (quite rightly) the trolling of the German child, are now doing the same to English ones, including George.

That would make sense. Kate has photographed him in an England shirt in the past so it’s not like he doesn’t have one/have access to one.

@SirSamuelVimes

No the royal box has a dress code. It's no different from a kid being put in a suit for a wedding.

Imagine the arse-handing you'd get on AIBU if you wanted to take your kid to a wedding in a football kit! Certain situations have a dress code, that's fine. Plus all the other men around him were in suits, there's a chance he would have felt the odd one out dresses differently.

Also, it's not like it's going to be an ill-fitting, off the peg hire from Moss Bros. It will be tailored to his measurements and I expect will be quite comfortable!

If you can't tell the difference between a wedding and a football match, I do wonder. Likewise the difference between a small child how old is he, seven or eight? and adult men.

But then the RF seem to think that the way to further the mystique is to dress the children like some kind of 1950s throwbacks -- those horrible, twee little rompers and shorts and smocked dresses.

Sad but unsurprising.

Comedycook · 12/07/2021 10:05

Bless him...he must have been exhausted and disappointed by the end of it

Indeed, Cambridge kids have been seen out and about with their nanny and were joggers etc.
NCd4this · 12/07/2021 10:07

Poor kid looked bored to tears to me, and slightly perplexed.

They really weren’t stony faced and disinterested in each other!!

Every time the camera was on them, they looked a million miles away from every other family caught on camera. They looked stiff, awkward at times and the prince looked so different to all the smiling children I saw with painted faces etc

When will they realise that it just makes them look ridiculous?

MotionActivatedDog · 12/07/2021 10:09

I must have been watching from a different angle.

Comefromaway · 12/07/2021 10:09

@SnottyLottie

He was so cute and looked like he had a great time. Wish they would have let him wear a football shirt though. Or do the rules of the box prohibit this?
I don't specifically know about Wembley but the rules for VIP/corporate areas at most other clubs are no "colours" except for children under 12 years old. From a quick search though it looks like Wembey enforce a stricter no colours policy in those areas.
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/07/2021 10:10

We are far from the Royal family.
We have had to take our children to formal events for DHs work. All the children follow the dress code from toddlerhood... its not full on suit and tie, but sports wear, jeans etc are out. (Girls are easy... its just a dress. Boys its smart trousers and a shirt or polo). Children are adaptable.

I bet he had a great time, despite the tie. They probably took him because he wanted to go, not because he had to.

Kanaloa · 12/07/2021 10:11

It was just a suit. As he’s been dressed like little Lord Fauntleroy from birth I doubt he was that upset about it.

hyperbole001 · 12/07/2021 10:11

@OverByYer

It’s hardly a dig saying I don’t like the earrings! She always looks lovely and she did look lovely last night. I just didn’t like the earrings
I've just seen the earrings via the link. They're hideous.

Maybe through your 'I ❤️ the royals' rose tinted spectacles?
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 12/07/2021 10:13

Mycatcontrolsmymovements · 12/07/2021 10:14

I think George really wanted to wear the same as his dad and thats why he was wearing a suit
