Prince George at Wembley

So cute, love the photos of him at Wembley.
Especially the one of him hugging his Mum in excitement. Despite their wealth/ privilege they do seem to be a ‘normal’ family.
Wasn’t too fussed on Kate’s red earrings, though.

I'm really shocked that people think George wearing a suit is out of place. My boss has a box at Chelsea football club - The dress code is strictly smart casual and specifies no football tops or trainers

He's in a box, there's a dress code!

onlyhereforthecake · 12/07/2021 10:57

They are supposed to be setting an example to other people

example for what? Confused

No one in this country needs to, or will, look up and follow some rich and privilege family's "example" - family who doesn't even have to follow the same rules than "normal people", let alone have the same resources, anyway.

TheFoundations · 12/07/2021 10:59

@brittleheadgirl

Well, none of us really know what they were actually thinking, do we?

BackforGood · 12/07/2021 10:59

He’s not allowed to wear an England strip in the royal box, as it’s against the dress code.

Though Ed Sheeran was wearing a white t-shirt, no suit in site, at the last game......

I saw them jumping up and down, screaming their heads off, and hugging each other after Shaw's goal.

They HAD to be. Whatever they do in front of the cameras is always for show, one way or another.

Actually, this is the first generation of royals who we've seen showing emotions at such a game - if you look back over all the games previous royals have attended, that would have been a smile and maybe some clapping. William Kate and George's reactions were those of genuinely involved fans.

I am not manipulating anything, you must be very naive if you believe that the royal family of all people doesn't keep an act while in the public eye. They have to.

Terhou · 12/07/2021 11:01

@brittleheadgirl, "disinterested" doesn't mean what you think it means.

Just because they do something differently does not mean they are genuine. It's all a big PR show. Especially after the Harry debacle (let alone the one scandal who can't be mentioned, cough cough how is Andrew?).

They have a private and a "work" life. So do most other royals.

SnottyLottie · 12/07/2021 11:02

Here’s George, William and Kate at the Villa match in 2019. He is wearing a Villa t-shirt and they are there as fans.

So I would surmise that he had to suit up at Wembley as he and his parents were there in an official capacity (William is President of the F.A)

Can you not see the smiling, cheering and hugging family in these photos? Why are you insisting that this didn't happen, when millions of people saw it?[/quote]
I didn't watch the match so hadn't seen that but what lovely photos. Thank you for posting them.

By your logic nothing they can do can be 'genuine'.

They are English people watching an England game. William is FA president. Why would they not 'genuinely' be happy when they scored and 'genuinely' sad when they lost? Or 'genuinely' want to hug and console each other when appropriate? How do you have a clue what they were 'genuinely' feeling?

Eaumyword · 12/07/2021 11:09

I thought the pictures of Kate, William and George were lovely and very natural.
They were representing the country so can hardly be flicking v signs and shouting ref are you blind -although that would be v amusing to see Grin

Why this obsession with George wearing a suit? He looks adorable in it.

IME boys really enjoy dressing up like adults from time to time, DS loved wearing his suit for special occasions. Why do people think they don't?

Nobody minds when little girls wear dresses which are basically miniature versions of adult dresses. So why the pearl clutching over a little boy weaing a suit on occasion? I thought he looked incredibly cute and certainly didn't seem uncomfortable.

I'm going to leave you all to it.
I actually find the swooning over total strangers a bit disturbing.
Particularly when they are over privileged individuals, with literally an obscene amount of wealth, living in a country where families are surviving on food bank handouts.
But, hey, you do you!

I'm clearly not a royalist, so I'm hardly with my people here.
I'll leave you to your gushing about the monarchy.
You all seem happy with your ignorance, so that's a positive at least.

Blossomtoes · 12/07/2021 11:19

@HullIsWorseThanHell

Wonder why they felt they had to stick the poor kid in a shirt and tie though. Can't have been comfortable
I imagine if he’s used to wearing a shirt and tie for school he was perfectly comfortable.

He was so excited, it was lovely to see.

newnortherner111 · 12/07/2021 11:20

Ed Sheehan sponsors a third tier club who have probably not won anything this century. So I can imagine he has not had to be smartly dressed for a football occasion for the club he supports.

tigger1001 · 12/07/2021 11:20

@LIZS

I think the cameras were deliberately panning away from them at end. No pics of sobbing disappointed George to guilt the Italians!
Really?? A football team would have felt guilty by a photo of a crying child?? Somehow, don't think so!

Actually, you seem a lot more invested in the royals - especially in the attire of a 7 year old - than anyone here.

I'm not especially a royalist, but I'm not sure if criticising the clothing and behaviour of a child is the best outlet for your anti-royal sentiments.

Iggly · 12/07/2021 11:22

“Setting an example”

Oh yes, let’s all live off old family money and continue to perpetuate the class system which allows the poor to be ground down for other peoples’ gain.

Riiiiiiight

YeDancer · 12/07/2021 11:23

He's a prince of the UK, not just England and that will be why he doesn't wear a football shirt in public

adrianmolesmole · 12/07/2021 11:26

I know they’re nothing like a normal family but they do seem to try and make it as normal as possible for their children.

By making a 7 year old wear a suit and tie to a football game? Would it have killed them to let the poor kid wear an England shirt? Such stiff and awkward parents, trying to appear "normal" but getting it all wrong!

GrealishHairband · 12/07/2021 11:29

fb.watch/v/1ZxvoEdJg/

This wasn’t fake, this was the response of a little boy and his Dad who were lost in the moment, supporting their team. Kate seemed a little more reserved but I think that’s probably a reflection of how into football she is (or not as the case may be).

I thought it was a lovely moment.

This.
Brittlehead have you got nothing better to direct your anger at than a 7 year old boy who was enjoying a day out?

At last! A fellow traveller. Thanks to US English though, another one bites the dust.

I read that P George wanted a suit like his Dad ie a mini me. Who knows? He looked fine for the occasion. But how tiresome to have every inch of your appearance and behaviour constantly scrutinised.
