So cute, love the photos of him at Wembley.
Especially the one of him hugging his Mum in excitement. Despite their wealth/ privilege they do seem to be a ‘normal’ family.
Wasn’t too fussed on Kate’s red earrings, though.

@BackforGood

He’s not allowed to wear an England strip in the royal box, as it’s against the dress code.

Though Ed Sheeran was wearing a white t-shirt, no suit in site, at the last game......

I saw them jumping up and down, screaming their heads off, and hugging each other after Shaw's goal.

They HAD to be. Whatever they do in front of the cameras is always for show, one way or another.

Actually, this is the first generation of royals who we've seen showing emotions at such a game - if you look back over all the games previous royals have attended, that would have been a smile and maybe some clapping. William Kate and George's reactions were those of genuinely involved fans.

I saw Ed Sheeran interviewed about this. He hadn't realised he was going to be in an area where a dress code applied and had actually turned up in an England shirt then realised everyone else was in suits.

Why didn't they bring Princess Charlotte too?

I am not manipulating anything, you must be very naive if you believe that the royal family of all people doesn't keep an act while in the public eye. They have to.

You’ve obviously never seen the Queen when she’s watching one of her horses race. Every single emotion is written all over her.
lllllllllll · 12/07/2021 11:35

Why didn't they bring Princess Charlotte too?

Probably because the game didn't finish until gone 10.30pm and she'd have been exhausted?

Why didn't they bring Princess Charlotte too?
Quite possibly because she said she’d rather eat her own liver and would prefer to stay at home and watch a film.

Wow there are some really nasty people on this thread.

I'm not a royalist, I dont hold any strong opinions about them tbh. The comment I made about him wanting to dressing his dad was reported by quite a few sources. Who knows if it is true but I thought it was relevant to the thread.

They brought her to the Aston Villa match and she seemed to have fun. I'm guessing it might have been too late for her?

I'm sure he had a great time. Not sure why they dress him up as a 52 year old accountant though.

Meh2020 · 12/07/2021 11:45

He looked adorable and like he was really enjoying it. Was lovely to see regardless of his clothes… he’s going to be a future king, I suspect that he needs to know that from a young age and things like sitting in the royal box and putting on a suit is a small way to start preparing him for that life.
That said I love the ‘official’ type clothes of all the Cambridge children!

BakewellGin1 · 12/07/2021 11:46

Love how a thread about George enjoying the match turned into a critical thread.

I'm not that fussed on the royals but even i could see they looked to enjoy the match.

As for what George was wearing - well my son would have given anything to be there even worn a suit ha ha.

However when my DH took DS to a club match and they went in hospitality section they had to be dressed well. Proper shoes, no football shirt etc so imagine for the Royals it's more strict.

thelastgoldeneagle · 12/07/2021 11:49

@ssd

Hes a cute kid but christ they are nothing like a normal family. Kate comes out of self isolation right into 2 Wimbledon finals and the euro finals. What a bloody life.
What's wrong with that? I have friends who came out of isolation in time for the Wimbledon final or Wembley last night - not both, mind you, but 60k people were there last night and 15k at Wimbledon, so it's not as if only 4 privileged people were at each...

Sure as eggs is eggs. I love the way it turned from 'They were stony faced and disinterested' to 'Of course they cheered and smiled and hugged! They're trained to show the appropriate emotion from birth!'

I just don't get the agenda.

FatCatThinCat · 12/07/2021 11:50

I'm impressed by his stamina. My DS is the same age and was snoring on the sofa before the end of the second half.

Blankscreen · 12/07/2021 11:51

I'm sure for George wearing a suit and tie isn't actually much different from his private school uniform of blazer and tie!

I actually felt sorry for William. A young guy on parade and having to be on best behaviour for the world to see.

BoredZelda · 12/07/2021 11:51

Suited and booted, stony faced and looking totally disinterested in one another.

These stony faced people?

What do you think he wanted to do but couldn’t?

Runningupthecurtains · 12/07/2021 11:57

YeDancer has nailed it - George waving an England flag /wearing an England shirt at a event where he is "on duty" is tricky when he is the future Prince of Wales and will be king of the United Kingdom not just of England. Royal box dress code aside that is why an England shirt is very different to a Villa shirt.

sailmeaway · 12/07/2021 11:59

'Despite their wealth/ privilege they do seem to be a ‘normal’ family.'

Totally normal. Which is why an 8 year old dressed like an injury lawyer was sat in the Royal box for the Euro finals. Completely normal.

Maggiesfarm · 12/07/2021 12:00

I also thought the suit was inappropriate for Prince George but maybe they were in some sort of 'royal box' or equivalent. Whatever, not my business. He certainly looked as though he was enjoying himself, it was a tense game. Phew!

Kate took a picture of George in an England shirt for his birthday 2 years ago. I think, as has been said, the suit was a reflection of the more 'official' nature of the occasion, and in line with the dress code in the VIP box. Not sure why people are getting so worked up over it. The whole notion of him being dressed 'like a 52 year old accountant' (whatever that is) is something that wouldn't even occur to a child.

😂
nailed it!

Runningupthecurtains · 12/07/2021 12:06

@IcedPurple the difference is he was "on duty" last night and so representing to nation where as in the photo he is at home.

DontLookEthel · 12/07/2021 12:09

Some people want to suck the joy out of everything to make others as miserable as them.

onlyhereforthecake · 12/07/2021 12:11

Not everybody has to fawn over the royal family 🤷

or is naive enough to pretend they are "normal", flipping patronising to play the "we are just like you " card.

DottyHarmer · 12/07/2021 12:12

Can we have an “I AM A MISERY” section of MN and every bitter and joyless f**r over there?
