Now that at the other knock off MN chat has been shut down, we seem to have an influx of those posters on here with new or encouraged accounts.

For those who are not interested in trawling through negative post after the other. You can come on here for positive news about Meghan and Harry.

Why not, everyone else seems to be viewed positively, without 'cynicism'. I don't mind taking this at snail pace, we just post on the good things about H&M, they sure seem to be doing a lot of that lately, and it's really buried under the negativity on MN.

@Mummy194
3) lives in a royal property funded by the queen
This is from the BBC – I have no idea how credible it is. I've simply added it for the sake of (possible) accuracy. You probably have a better source.
www.bbc.com/news/uk-57042823#:~:text=He%20earns%20a%20living%

No one wants to read the whole article, so I have quoted the relevant bit, which is about halfway down the page:
"He earns a living through a long-established consultancy company and the couple pay market rent and fees for their home at Kensington Palace, a spokesperson for the prince said."

Although you may well say that since it is a spokesperson for the Prince, that is not a credible source and tantamount to a leak from Kensington Palace.

Roussette · 10/05/2021 07:13

Yes, there was swirling criticism of the Kents. They paid £69 a week for a ten room apartment at KP for most of their married lives. And the Queen had to step in to pay their rent of £120,000 p.a. for many years when this came to light. I think they have to do this on their own now, hence selling access to Putin.

@SteveArnottsCodeine

I've read lots about it but missed that link, thanks for that. Following Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Their pinned tweet says this..

@gavi
Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and
@glblctzn have secured dollar-for-dollar donation matching from
@Mastercard and other foundations to help us provide #COVID19 vaccines through #COVAX for those most in need!

Great organisation.

SteppinOutwithMyBaby · 10/05/2021 07:48

@Roussette I think they have to do this on their own now, hence selling access to Putin.

From Wikipedia, so I don't know how accurate it is. It was also reported in several newspapers, but since I'm not British I don't know which newspapers are actually credible:
"It was announced that from 2010, that Prince and Princess Michael would begin paying rent of £120,000 a year out of their own funds to continue living in the apartment."

So, it appears that perhaps they have been been paying rent for over a decade.

Roussette · 10/05/2021 07:58

Yes, absolutely. I knew that Smile
So they have to make a living. They sold their country home, she writes books, he has a consultancy firm which has ended up in this mess with Putin.

Amazing he keeps his HRH if this is as bad as it sounds. Some facts have come to light which really sound bad, but I don't want to derail the thread.

Nanasueathome · 10/05/2021 10:01

It’s not really clear in the news reports, did M&H donate personally or was it through Archewell?
Where does Archewell get funds from? Is it donations from others too
I’m confused as to how it all works

Roussette · 10/05/2021 10:54

Donate to what? If it's Harvest Homes I think that was baby supplies

Nanasueathome · 10/05/2021 11:02

Yes, Harvest Homes

@SteveArnottsCodeine - thanks I've donated too - such a great scheme with banks involved too!

smilesy · 10/05/2021 12:49

GAVI is indeed a great cause, but it is a co-leader, along with CEPI, UNICEF and the WHO of the Covax scheme, to which many governments and the Gates foundation have already pledged billions. The US was a little late to the party because Biden’s predecessor did not sign up to Covax. It is welcome news that this policy has been reversed. It is also great that the Sussexes are highlighting its efforts. However, I’m a bit surprised by the “what a great idea” reaction as the thing has been running for quite a while now and it seems a bit odd to tell governments to participate when they are already doing so 🤷‍♀️

Itreallyistimetochangethings · 10/05/2021 12:55

@smilesy - then isn't that a good thing because it means some like me - were
Not aware of how big this was until H&M added their voice - so despite all the negativity they get they have been able to help get the message to some who may usually bypass these campaigns

smilesy · 10/05/2021 13:25

Yes, I did say it was a good thing. What I said it wasn’t a new thing. Some people seemed to think it was a revolutionary idea. The US has only just joined in but the Gates foundation and other countries have been in for the duration.

Mummy194 · 10/05/2021 16:44

@SteveArnottsCodeine

Thanks for that link.

I have donated, and so have some family members. Will spread, especially this week.

Not all government are or have been donating though.

Even here in the UK, just these last weeks have been debates especially of that 'we got here first, so we will deal with ourselves first'. So, yes it's a great idea that Global Citizen came up with the idea to rally everyone together and get high profile people to be involved.

In terms of delivery and the actual results, some people will see it as revolutionary, cause it seems otherwise, not this much was happening in this sphere.

@SteppinOutwithMyBaby

It is not that clear why the BBC decided not to print the whole statement.

The whole statement does throw up a lot of questions. They state that PM pays his own rent - which reminds people that this was only started about a decade ago, meaning he lived at KP for over 30yrs without paying the full amount, yet H&M had to pay 2.4M back for 2yrs in a property that is not theirs. And people will also be reminded that H&M reportedly paid for any extra 'luxuries' regarding the property, so the 2.4M only covers the necessary costs.

Then they state that his company actually does not make money and is running at a loss, which begs the question of how he can afford an apartment in KP. That in itself may mean that his wife is paying. How does she get her funds, partly through her writing books, under the HRH Princess Michael of Kent title.

Half in and half out all round, does not bode well.

Sorry, yes, the bookshop is called Bluebird books. Bookshop org usually raises funds for local bookshops.

Looks like the Torygraph has not been getting as much support as they had hoped blasting MMs book which is not even out yet.

That's an interesting about turn Mummy

I have to say the original headline is horrible. So I'm not surprised. There was an outcry on different SM about it. They just look stupid publishing rubbish like that in the first place.

Nanasueathome · 10/05/2021 19:17

Harry was unable to help Meghan re her mental health when she requested and needed assistance and advice
Be interesting what he has to say with Oprah

Seems rather harsh on the UK Mummy

Whatever else we’ve done we’ve supported Covax rather more than you’d give us credit for.

smilesy · 10/05/2021 19:51

Yes @LittleBearPad, for a long time the UK was the largest donor to Covax. We are now in third place behind the US and Germany.
