The royal family

Those little things you've always wondered about the Royal family

Do the royals watch programmes about themselves.
If a senior royal suspects she's pregnant, who does she ask to get a pregnancy test? (Not sure why I wonder this)
Do they have a GP or a royal doctor. How to they go about seeing them.
Do they have security at the school where Prince George and Princess Charlotte go?
How do they employ staff and ensure they don't divulge information outside of their job.

Most importantly does someone really keep the toilet seat warm for the queen?? Grin

I suspect they have private GPs for day-to-day care, but they definitely use NHS GPs for emergencies at times.

FurrySlipperBoots · 06/05/2021 21:14

@Nerdybirdy

I assume they have mobiles, but who do they trust to have their private numbers?

I have one of their phone numbers! I interviewed to be their nanny and the agency (I can't help but think in error!!) included their number on the forms. I know it's the right number because I was up all night with a bug the night before the interview so I rang first thing in the morning to ask if they still wanted to meet me. Luckily they did because it was a right palava getting to that point! Anyway, so I now have their number in my phone. I'm always tempted to message on notable occasions but of course I wouldn't, that would freak them right out I'm sure, and it wouldn't be their number for much longer!

It's going to be different for age groups I would imagine. Can't see the Queen slobbing about in her jim jams of an evening. My parents (mid 80s) wouldn't do this for eg. My mum used to wear tracksuits and my granny would take off her girdle when she was chilling Grin. But the younger ones may well do.

It must be most weird for the non royal born like Mike Tindall etc. Must have been easier whenever the royals used to exclusively marry other royals.

I think I read somewhere that there was a hospital type theatre at Buckingham Palace. Didn't the Monarch used to have to have the pm in the room when she gave birth? God imagine going through labour and having Boris Johnson looking on Envy

VexedofVirginiaWater · 06/05/2021 21:27

Does HM ever win arguments like Elizabeth I in Blackadder by saying who is queen? With a pointed look.

Oh I do hope so!

JustLyra · 06/05/2021 21:41

I wonder if they ever feed really funny fake stories to the press.

I can imagine younger ones getting competitive with that.

“Yesss! My X had a hissy fit because her new dress was the wrong shade of red hit the Sun”

“DM fell for the spent £7289164 on a sofa story”

JustLyra · 06/05/2021 21:44

They used to set up an operating theatre in the palace when needed, its not set up all the time. The table they borrowed for King George VI’s lung op is on show at one of the museums (either the science or the V&A - I can’t remember which) and they have details about how it was all set up.

I've heard they have their own mobile network for security reasons so they can only be contacted by certain people
FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 21:46

@Onwardsandupwardswego

How can they order takeaway Who would deliver to Prince w at kp?
William has said before an assistant (they all live on site) collects it
FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 21:47

@Allmyarseandpeggymartin

What does the Queen keep in her handbag
Fags
felulageller · 06/05/2021 21:50

Why would they ever do any house work when they don't have to? There are always staff on shift.

They have private doctors too. And ladies in waiting to fetch whatever they want- tampons or takeaways!

Ah interesting @JustLyra

I always imagine Kate is a bit like “come on children let’s craft and paint” children make enormous mess. Then Kate says “come on children let’s go outside and play” they all leave. When they come back the mess is gone and lunch is on the table.

I hate cleaning up the craft crap and making lunch. Oh to have staff...

CassandraCross · 06/05/2021 21:56

Do they do hostage training like journalists do?

Yes they do, Diana's hair was singed during hers.

I imagine Camilla would be a pj's and slippers on, crack open the wine kinda woman.

If I was Queen I would definitely use the "Who is Queen?" line Grin, plus I would just have to say when they played God Save the Queen - "they're playing my tune" especially to uppity arses which is why I would never be Queen in this era!

nickynackynoopants · 06/05/2021 21:57

Does the Queen have lounging wear ?

therearenogoodusernamesleft · 06/05/2021 22:10

They have police protection officers for them and their children, including when the children are at school.

JustLyra · 06/05/2021 22:10

If I was the Queen I’d have God Save The Queen on my phone just to make them all stand up randomly whenever I wanted - the more annoying, the more I’d play it

21Flora · 06/05/2021 22:16

I’ve worked for some ultra high net worth landed gentry, all household names. Those non disclosure agreements are pretty water tight. A group of ex staff went to the paper about their treatment about one - a judge ruled that papers couldn’t discuss the trials because the employers ‘honour and reputation’ were more important than it being public knowledge. Money wins in these situations every time.

WomenAreBornNotWorn · 06/05/2021 22:18

Autumn Kelly was telling anyone who would listen about her and Peter. This was way before the six week mark.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 06/05/2021 22:20

Who sorts out the world book day costumes and PTA bake sale goodies?

Do the kids ever have to eat their toast in the car on the way to school because of some tantrum or other that has meant everyone running late?

Crocidura · 06/05/2021 22:30

Someone told me the other day that one of the Queen's ladies in waiting has the job of wearing in / stretching her new shoes for her. Which I think is a very good use of a lady in waiting.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 22:35

Do William and Kate, when the kids have pissed them off, flick them the V sign or middle finger when they're not looking?

RandomMess · 06/05/2021 22:47

I wonder what it was like when HM was going through "the change" did she get the rage and cba with everyone or did she get the best HRT available?

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 22:48

Did they all gather round and watch the Oprah interview together? I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall watching their reactions.

And more importantly - did they piss themselves laughing when Meghan Markle compared herself to the Little Mermaid?

campion · 06/05/2021 23:07

@nickynackynoopants

Does the Queen have lounging wear ?
Yes, she wears a headscarf at horse shows and countryside type things! No tracky bottoms apparently.

I sometimes wonder what they think of the houses that most of us live in. Are they a bit Shock at how much less space we manage with? Probably don't give it a thought, I guess.
