The royal family

Those little things you've always wondered about the Royal family

Do the royals watch programmes about themselves.
If a senior royal suspects she's pregnant, who does she ask to get a pregnancy test? (Not sure why I wonder this)
Do they have a GP or a royal doctor. How to they go about seeing them.
Do they have security at the school where Prince George and Princess Charlotte go?
How do they employ staff and ensure they don't divulge information outside of their job.

Most importantly does someone really keep the toilet seat warm for the queen?? Grin

@PurpleWh1teGreen

Lockdown it's probably made up bollox but I've seen suggestions re another royal couple having IVF. Not that unusual in older women having children though.

I seem to recall Sophie talking about having IVF at one point, unless I'm completely losing it! Grin
@Saltandshake82 Kate was asked if she was going to have a 4th baby when she was visiting a nursery. She said something like, “ I don’t think William would be keen.” That means Kate wants one. That’s also one of the most personal things she’s ever revealed. Do you think the Palace gave her a lecture about that?
In fairness, it's not the easiest question for her to ignore. Say they want more and the whole world goes on womb watch. Say they're done and then if a surprise #4 comes along everyone knows it was unplanned. Flat out refuse to answer (which would be fair enough) and there's headlines about her rudeness, or speculating that it's a sensitive subject. I think that was a good out for her, regardless of the real answer.

@BeefSupreme

she compared herself to the little mermaid? 😂

Yep! She said "I saw the Little Mermaid on TV and thought 'Oh. my. god. It's me - I found a Prince...and lost my voice. But in the end, she gets her voice back again"

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

@BeefSupreme I think that I remember reading somewhere, sometime that HMQ has money for putting on the donation plate at church.

I want to know what the queen's favourite food is. Apparently she never tells anyone because if she did everyone would serve it to her at every occasion and it would spoil it for her. I can see her point but it's got me curious as to what it could be.

I imagine it's scrambled eggs on toast done in a pan not a microwave (so common), with a side of asparagus.

Do they get a monthly wage so to speak?

This is such a fab idea for a thread. Some great questions. The little mermaid was my fave Disney film until MM ruined it for me

@Saltandshake82

Do they get a monthly wage so to speak?

No they don’t.

They’re funded from different budgets - the sovereign Grant covers official duties travel etc. The Queen funds the bulk of the royals. The Duchy of Cornwall funds Charles and his family.

Most of them also have private money from inheritances and trust funds. I would assume they have good advisors to make the most of that through investments.
(The vast majority of their inheritances, like from the Queen Mother, are a bit controversial because technically everything went from QEQM to the Queen as sovereign-to-sovereign transfer is exempt from IHT).

I do wonder though if William, and Harry when he was here, had a set allowance from Charles before he’d say “Enough”

I’ve seen jobs advertised in the HR team at the royal household from time to time - always wondered what it would be like to work there…! As for hiring people who don’t talk, I suspect it’s the same as anywhere else - my employer is very strict about what we can and can’t say on social media, friends and the consequences of this etc.

@ajandjjmum I do think there was some mention of Sophie having IVF. Did she not also have a late MC and Louise was born prematurely. I don't think they had an easy time having their family.

@Lockdownbear she had a very difficult birth with Louise, had to be rushed into surgery. I remember watching Edward making the announcement alone outside the hospital. And yes Louise was premature.

As an aside, Sophie is my favourite married royal. She seems very down to Earth and speaks so eloquently. I though what she said about the death of Prince Phillip and how it was like someone took his hand and carried him off, was lovely

They do have security at school, yes. I know someone who works there.
The Queen has a Royal Doctor.
The staff all sign non disclosure forms.
I assume their doctors do the pregnancy tests or they ask a friend to buy one for them. I would.

Sophie also had an ectopic pregnancy. They did indeed have a rough path to parenthood.

I had à job interview at Buckingham palace about 15 years ago. In the tourism bit. Even for that is official secrets act etc! (I didn't get the job, but the security bit was pre interview)

I always wonder do they ever just fancy beans in toast and make it themselves or is every meal planned and prepped by a royal chef, do they ever get down time to just chill watch TV or read a book or is everything in their lives planned out?

The gossip wasn't about Sophie.

Royal security procedures nearly killed Sophie and Louise.

When an ambulance was called the police were sent to check it was a genuine call. The ambulance then had to be called again and the delay in getting her to hospital was extremely serious. She didn’t get to meet her baby for several days as Louise was taken to a different hospital.

She had an ectopic pregnancy loss that was announced and from various things she’s said over the years it’s thought she has several miscarriages.

She was so unwell after Louise’s birth the Queen visited her in hospital, which is really unusual. Especially considering she was in a normal NHS hospital that wasn’t planned rather than a more secure/known private hospital.

What a nightmare with the ambulance. Now you mention it I think it is the ectopic I remember. Sounds like she really didn't have an easy time having babies.

I think she went back to that hospital in recent years and cried when she saw the nurses.

She did. She opened their new neonatal unit. Other Mums hopefully wouldn’t have to be separated like she was from Louise.

She also chose to have James there because she rated their care so highly.

I've just read the reports when she opened the unit.
Made me all emotional, I'd love to properly thank the people who saved me on a couple of separate occasions! They'll never know how grateful I am.

spam fritters,
bangers & mash,
eel pie with the green liquor,
toad in the hole;
followed by jam roly poly or spotted dick.
and a nice cup of tea.

Sophie also had an ectopic pregnancy. They did indeed have a rough path to parenthood.

i remember reading that she nearly died because when the doctor came, late at night to their house he said, she needs to go immediately by ambulance to hospital.
after a while he the doc turned to a flunky and said, did they say how long it would be ?
flunky looked blank and said, who, what.
the ambulance ! said the doctor.
each had thought the other had summoned it.
i think she had to go by air ambulance in the end.
it was a close call.
