What a wonderful man Prince Philip was

He really was a remarkable man and what a sad day it's been watching the funeral. Hearing all the stories about his life, I have laughed, cried and been somewhere in between. I know it's not really a discussion topic but I wanted to show my respect to His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. GOD BLESS YOU SIR

A man who was born into and who lived through a life of extraordinary privilege. Went to war, like millions of his generation. Was a terrible racist, like many of his generation. Stayed with his wife until his death, like many of his generation.

He was a man who lived a remarkable life. That’s not the same as being a remarkable man.

YABVU I think most people would have an amazing life with all the privilege, connections and wealth the Royal Family has.

I agree. The same generation as my dad. A proper old school gentleman, they don’t make them like that any more.

maybe because the man is a stranger. Does she readong obituaries on the paper and sit crying over folk she never met? It is absurd people take celebrity deaths to heart.

I met him in person as as part of my job and I can say my experience of him wasn't positive.

Funny how people get caught up in propaganda and hype, especially around funerals.

This. And they are seen as idols. If I had his millions I'd easily have a much better life but I work all hours and rent a box bedroom in my 30s.

I think it would be nice if a fundraiser was set up to donate money in his name to the Vanuatu tribe who worshipped him. I was touched reading about them. They live in a lot of poverty. Perhaps one of the organisations he worked with could set it up. I'd love for the BBC to do a programme on them. It would be interesting and help raise awareness at the same time.

Yes he lived a life of enormous privilege but I think he did an amazing amount to the betterment of our society.

Am very interested in the royals, read loads of books on them, felt sorry for the Queen, but I don't think he was a very nice man.
Incredibly rude, racist but had a strange upbringing. And was always in her shadow and had to give up the career he loved, he did well to live as long as he did.
Although he could have been completely mental and incontinent at his age, we have no idea so although it is awful for Her Maj, maybe his dying was a relief for her~ if he was in a state, we will never know what goes on behind closed doors.

That’s a horrible post and doesn’t exactly shine a positive light on your personality to be honest.
