The royal family

What a wonderful man Prince Philip was

He really was a remarkable man and what a sad day it's been watching the funeral. Hearing all the stories about his life, I have laughed, cried and been somewhere in between. I know it's not really a discussion topic but I wanted to show my respect to His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. GOD BLESS YOU SIR

What’s God got to do with anything? He doesn’t exist.

GOD BLESS YOU SIR
Except, he's not here to read this so this isn't to him. He can't hear you or read your post. So it's probably just unnecessary posturing or virtue signalling.

@BrumBoo

Not the day for this type of goady thread. He was not a remarkable man, just one of privilege. Many remarkable people die every day without their names ever being mentioned to the greater public.

He was a loved member of his family, and despite their privileged position, grief and heartbreak hurts just the same. That's the only thing that needs to be remembered today, without the sycophantic arse licking (whether it's real or not).

This is true and and absolutely agree that it's wrong to start a thread like this (in AIBU no less) today. The OP knew exactly what they were doing.

@mygenericusername

Wrong forum OP. Wrong forum.

But yes it was a beautifully fitting tribute to a man who devoted his life to the service of his adopted home.

Sorry, quite new to mumsnet. Couldn't get it to post anywhere else

I agree.

He was relatively old when I was born and I had no idea he had lead such an interesting life.

RIP Prince Philip.

nah you full of shit, mn is full of people from the general public. What's not to understand? You praise the hell out of the Royals in any public platform you know it's a controversial topic. You loving this op.

Biographers can really make anybody 'interesting', that's their job.

I don't think Op has to take responsibility for the nastiness of people on AIBU, to be honest. They need to take responsibility for their own inappropriateness.

You've been here nearly a year and managed to post on other forums in the past Hmm.

@Navigationcentral

When I find such interesting threads I do make use of MN advance search function. We have an interesting poster as OP.

Numerous posts, hardly “new to Mumsnet” in terms of posting amounts.

Also a very interesting mix of being both the following things -

  1. A SAHM for the last 16 years.

AND also ....

Wait for it..

  1. A “firearms ballastic's specialist” who is paid well.

What a fascinating person OP.

Multi talented. What can I say?

Didn't he shoot an endangered tiger for fun?

What kind of human being enjoys shooting animals? Absolutely nauseating.

I liked him. He was human, overcame obstacles, was innovative and a great family man.

His life was very interesting and he achieved a lot.

Ah come on, you been outed as being on mn for over a year now despite saying you are new. Plus you bring up the royals on mn when there have being umpteen threads bashing them in the last month so you knew exactly what you were doing.
Then to add fuel to your fire you bring up being a Protestant from NI which again bring up NI is controversial in all the troubles that habe been kicking off there in recent weeks and again umpteen threads on it. You are like a poster child for mn controversy. You probably from the Daily Mail.

That was very common when he was younger. Even the Queen Mother shot for a trophy.

Times change and so do people.

I agree with the OP. He was clearly a wonderful family man and it was a very moving service. No one does pomp and ceremony as well as the British and I thought this afternoon was a very fitting tribute, of which he would have been very proud.
