What a wonderful man Prince Philip was

He really was a remarkable man and what a sad day it's been watching the funeral. Hearing all the stories about his life, I have laughed, cried and been somewhere in between. I know it's not really a discussion topic but I wanted to show my respect to His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. GOD BLESS YOU SIR

There's nothing delicate about my ears. You might think him amusing I don't. I didn't think some of his remarks were amusing. I didn't think they were the crime of the century either. Constant scrutiny of what you say every time you speak might throw up some gems I should imagine.

@derxa

You can't blame it on his old age he's been making offensive comments for a long time. I'm not. Anyway he's dead now so there's no chance your delicate ears will be assaulted.

I'm just wondering what happened when people heard PP's inappropriate comments. Did they melt into a puddle on the floor or did they think 'Silly old sod' like a normal person.

If your children enjoy playing in a playground or on a playing field for sport, they owe that in part to Prince Philip championing the right of children to have outdoor space at a time when developers were keen to grab any land they could.

Mmm even if offended they were hardly going to argue or chin him though were they 😬

There is so much footage of Prince Philip talking to people of all ages, nationalities and classes. They all seem to be laughing and enjoying his conversation. I don't think he was a saint but he was certainly someone interested in other people. He was like a lightening rod. He took the flak and spared the Queen. PP was much like my DF who was always putting his foot in it.

Oh that’s all right then.

Yes. It is. It's alright to not agree someone was wonderful anywhere actually.

Yep. Collectively MN certainly hasn’t covered itself in glory this weekend.

Why? What's wrong with disagreeing they someone was "wonderful". The Op was started in AIBU.

Yes he was rude and racist but that needs to be judged with the standards of his generation. - fucking hell, you do realise that we have a man, our Prime Minister who is as rude and racist as all fuck, and misogynist to boot, and he is 30 years younger than Prince Philip? Angry It is not 'of it's time', it's who they are.

I agree that the Pomp and Ceremony of yesterday was lovely; it's what we do best. Lots of gold, and flags, and singing and medals. Lovely. Doesn't mean he was a nice, lovely or wonderful man.

And as for the poster who 'burst into tears ' on hearing of the death of Capt Sir Tom - ffs what? A man you probably had not even heard of 12 months ago? A 100 year old man? (Just like the poster at the time who cries that he should have had many more years!'

@SirusTheVirus

WTF is wrong with people?

Seriously, some posters on this thread make me ashamed to be a part of the human race!!

My post got deleted too - seems no word of criticism is allowed - we should all be deifying him - revisionist history at it's worst 🤨

She’s not claiming it’s ‘his fault’ she’s merely pointing out he will be irrelevant to people who aren’t super wealthy and don’t have the mental and practical cushioning that comes with that.
