@PresentingPercy

Is the service being televised? Surely not.
It is.

It’s a royal ceremonial funeral for the consort. It was always going to be a televised event.

The only difference now is that it’ll be a smaller gathering to be covid regulation compliant.

PresentingPercy · 11/04/2021 16:18

I find that a bit intrusive. Television cameras in the Chapel? Oh dear. Nowhere to hide then.

I do not like the idea that they are talking of not having sports events that day either. The Queen had two horses running at Kempton last Friday evening. She did not cancel her own participation. Why do we have to put up with football being postponed? Just too much!

JustLyra · 11/04/2021 16:19

Funerals for the most senior royals are always going to be televised. They generally don’t show close ups of faces or anything in the chapel. With both a hat and a mask this will be the most private it could be in terms of emotions being seen.

StormzyinaTCup · 11/04/2021 18:06

PP will be arriving in a Land Rover hearse that he customised himself which adds a lovely personal touch to proceedings.

The bbc had to set up a separate complaints page for viewers complaining about loss of programmes on all 3 channels on Friday. It was Gogglebox for us. The continual fawning has been awful. I hope I’m out of the country when the Queen dies. Pleeeaase!

SleepingStandingUp · 11/04/2021 18:22

@MaggieFS

I hope Harry does make it, but I'd forgotten Meghan is pregnant. That may genuinely affect things.
They said early Summer. It's April now, I'd assume early June at earliest so there's plenty of time.

Tbh even if Meghan was in the UK / not pregnant I'd not expect her at the funeral given the numbers.

StormzyinaTCup · 11/04/2021 18:22

I think one channel or possibly two would have been sufficient, the coverage was interesting but it was getting a bit circular by the evening and I confess I did pop the golf Blush on in the evening.

The complaints page where you register your email address was so overwhelmed they had to de-activate it. So whatever numbers they say, I think it should be doubled.
They are revealing this on Wednesday I think

JaneMcDoe · 11/04/2021 19:29

Bit much when all 3 channels had the same programme running.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/04/2021 20:38

I love the idea of a complaint page. At the same time the BBC are offering their staff bereavement counselling. We really do need things to open up quickly. The country has gone quite nuttyGrin

I think you would need to be out of the Universe, we were in Egypt when the Queen Mother died and they were full of it!
PresentingPercy · 15/04/2021 07:42

Hopefully they didn’t close down all the tv channels! Well, obviously not all - but it’s over the top. The Queen has reappeared. I’m hoping all the sport goes ahead on Saturday with start times that don’t clash. The DOfE was rather anti-fuss. I agree with him.

I work in broadcasting, and they have offered support for those who have been upset by the news. When you have to work on breaking news or something that is close to home and upsetting, broadcasting is one of the situations where the employee can't escape from it. I think offering support to staff members should be applauded and not mocked.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/04/2021 14:25

All of offering support where needed. I was just pointing out the irony of the situation. On one hand they are dealing with some members of public kicking up a fuss. On the other hand they are dealing with staff that are in grief. The BBC are in a interesting situation and I find them getting pulled in all directions amusing. This country is amusing in its inconsistency as normal.

The guest list for the funeral has been announced

And more funeral information from the Beeb

Zancah · 15/04/2021 17:22

That list is nothing like the speculative one printed in the paper at the weekend just shows what The Fail knows!
Though I am surprised all of the younger royals partners are on it. Given the numbers, I didn't think it would be unreasonable to ask them to attend alone.

thereisonlyoneofme · 15/04/2021 17:24

No Prince or Princess Michael of Kent ?

oneglassandpuzzled · 15/04/2021 17:30

The Duke of Kent is on the list, so perhaps it was thought he could represent all the Kents.

JustLyra · 15/04/2021 17:36

Alexandra is also a Kent.

No surprise that Princess Michael isn’t there as the Duchesses of Gloucester and Kent aren’t there (though I wasn’t expecting the Duchess of Kent even if it was a huge funeral).

It seems Prince Michael was just the one that couldn’t be fitted in

If everyone was able to sit together then perhaps the grandchildren’s partners could have be left out, but I’ve been saying all week that there’s no way the Queen was going to have her grandsons and granddaughters sat by themselves at the funeral.
JustLyra · 15/04/2021 17:39

Plus the more households in attendance the harder it would be logistically - distancing in the church, transport, getting people in and out of the service etc

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/04/2021 22:05

Love this the BBC website has provided photos so you can ID all the people attendingGrin

I dont think I've seen little James recently. He's a little cutie.
Sophie is coming across well through all this. I have a feeling we might see more of Sophie and Edward from now on.
