Very sad. RIP
It will undoubtedly herald the beginning of an end of an era.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 09/04/2021 12:31

Just heard, such sad news, I am glad he went home and spent time with his wife thou, he led a fascinating life and was very witty and charming.

Chocolatier9 · 09/04/2021 12:32

Very, very sad for the Queen.

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2021 12:33

I'm listening to r2. Given they must have practised this they sound a bit unprepared.
The Prince um er Prince Philip the Duke of er Edinburgh

ProcrastinationIsMySuperPower · 09/04/2021 12:33

I feel so sad for the Queen. He's been at her side for more than 70 years. 😞

itsgettingwierd · 09/04/2021 12:34

Condolences to the Queen and her family.

Very sad because it's such a big thing but he did live to a good age.

He died at Windsor Castle so pleased he was somewhere he loved for his last moments.

SpanishFly · 09/04/2021 12:36

@EasterIsComing

They have interrupted regular programming to play an obviously pre prepared description of his life from meeting the queen. A bit spooky to think how many of these they must have ready to go.
I work behind the scenes in TV, and they have obituaries/tributes ready for all members of the RF, which get updated once a year - or more, if something significant happens in their lives
BuggeringBugger · 09/04/2021 12:36

Well in that case I hope Andrew also stays away! Really sad for Philip and the queen and all of them today. He lived to a wonderful age and had a good life but his family will still miss him a lot I'm sure!

RolloTomassi · 09/04/2021 12:38

Such sad news today. I was a fan of his, and it's awful for the Queen. What a life though!

Lolly86 · 09/04/2021 12:39

Very sadFlowers

jessstan2 · 09/04/2021 12:41

Yes, sad, he has been around all of my life and so it has been for many others.

A great age. The Queen will be bereft but soon back to business as usual, she's a stoic.

IpanemaChic · 09/04/2021 12:42

Ah sad news. I met him briefly for a quick chat and he was lovely.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/04/2021 12:42

@EasterBunny21

Very sad about this even though I know many on here will scoff at that.
No - I agree with you.

I am not a monarchist, but his death seems to me to be marking the end of an era,.

Silly as it is, I just felt that he would go on forever. I feel great sympathy for the Queen - they have been together so very long.

DioneTheDiabolist · 09/04/2021 12:43

He was Prince Andrew's father and Prince Harry's grandfather. I hope all the family are able to be together to mourn him and support eachother in their grief.

Strength, love and peace to them all.Flowers

EasterIsComing · 09/04/2021 12:43

I wonder if The Crown will cover this or is it too insensitive to have a portrayal of what might be being said and felt behind closed doors?

Andrew and Harry are members of the family, they've left the 'job', not their family.
Dobbyafreeelf · 09/04/2021 12:46

Very very sad news. 99 is a grand age and what a life it was. My condolences to the queen.

My understanding is that he always wanted a small funeral and would probably be very happy if it wasn't the grand memorial that would be expected under normal circumstances.

Thoughts are with all those he was close to.

Sarcobaleno · 09/04/2021 12:49

Very sad for the Queen. Harry shouldn't be there because international travel isn't allowed, but no other reason. He's still in the family. Cue people giving Harry and Meghan a hard time now, overlooking Andrew as usual. All that should be laid aside, they've lost a beloved family member.

DishingOutDone · 09/04/2021 12:50

I wouldn't "scoff" at it but he had a great life and lived to a great age so I don't think its sad at all, its amazing. I am sure his family will miss him very much, of course.

KarensChoppyBob · 09/04/2021 12:52

I knew the anti Harry mob would have to pipe up, really in bad taste: he was his grandfather fgs.

Another one feeling for the queen right now.

Maryberryswoodenspoon · 09/04/2021 12:55

Feeling very sad at this news.. having grown up in Windsor I have always felt a connection to the Royals and would often see them at State visits and even just driving through the town. A very sad day for the family and the nation..

Ifailed · 09/04/2021 12:58

A very sad day for the family and the nation.

For his family, of course, but the nation?

I read that The Crown is going to have six series, and only go up to the early 2000s so as not to cover too recent stuff.
picknmix1984 · 09/04/2021 13:05

There's another thread. How many threads required?

KarensChoppyBob · 09/04/2021 13:06

I've just realised there are a few, saw this one first, is that ok pick?
