I was watching a programme on the Queen last night. It was clear how much she adored her husband and what a great support he was to her. He gave up a lot personally to be by her side through thick and thin. He also did a great deal to modernise the monarchy. The Dof E initiative has changed a lot of young people’s lives.
He could be a acerbic at times and his views were of his time. He had a very sad life as a young man and overcame the lack of stability and love to make something of his life. We could all learn something from him.
Most of all I feel very sad for the Queen. He’s been by her side all her adult life through the deaths of her father, mother and sister. Through all the troubles and challenges they have faced together. Even though she must have known it was coming, I’m sure she is devastated.

i feel very sad for the queen.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/04/2021 16:17

Boris could have combed his hair for this, surely ?

JustLyra · 09/04/2021 17:14

The funeral is going to have to be carefully organised.

They can’t be seen to be breaking any restrictions that other people have to follow.

30 is going to be very tight for a man with a big extended family. His children, grandchildren and their partners is already 20 people.

At least he will avoid the politicians turning out which will help get the family funeral he wanted.

MissingMyOldLife · 09/04/2021 17:19

RIP Prince Philip.
He was a great comfort to the Queen and he’ll be missed by his family.
He made a few faux pas but I believe he was a gentleman and a decent human being.

@Aspiringmatriarch

International travel is allowed for funerals as far as I'm aware.
Well if you can find a flight & have the time/money for the 10days quarantine & tests.
Skiptheheartsandflowers · 09/04/2021 18:26

I think Harry can run to the costs of a return flight and Covid tests!

Oldbutstillgotit · 09/04/2021 18:32

I would imagine he will travel by private jet if he attends .

mermaidsariel · 09/04/2021 18:46

I can imagine the atmosphere of Harry does arrive. It will be very uncomfortable.

EdithWeston · 09/04/2021 18:53

I'd hazard a guess that of course it won't be the state funeral for which plans will already be in place. Likely something private and compliant with the rules, to be followed by a grand memorial service in future?

I think this is likely

The actual internment funeral is always private, and may well be at St George's Windsor (where the Queen's parents are buried) so that can still, gomahead with just family.

Then a grand memorial service at a time when it is safe to hold one.

(Point of detail: in non-pandemic times he would have had a royal ceremonial funeral, like Diana PoW or HMQM, as only the monarch and a handful of others have state funerals. The last one was for Winston Churchill)

EdithWeston · 09/04/2021 19:02

I've had the BBC coverage on, and it was very moving when they finished with Nimrod

JustLyra · 09/04/2021 19:02

That’s what he’s still having. Just a covid compliant version.

I don’t think think there will be a memorial service. He wanted a small funeral and no fuss. He accepted there has to be a level of fuss due to his role. I think this will be a chance to give him a funeral as close to what he actually wanted.

Yes-I hope he appreciates how lucky he is to be able to have the choice of this & to quarantine at an estate with grounds!
EdithWeston · 09/04/2021 19:09

Well if you can find a flight & have the time/money for the 10days quarantine & tests

That's fairly straightforward inbound as Frogmore is unoccupied, and food and other supplies can be sent over from the Castle

It's the rules for return to US that will be difficult - 14 days in a non-proscribed country plus 7 days quarantine on arrival

That all adds up to a month in quarantine

And although the Duchess's due date has not been announced, it can't be far off, as didn't they say (late) spring?

So unless they can arrange special dispensation, I think it's unlikely to be a good idea that he comes

Ellmau · 09/04/2021 19:37

And presumably he wouldn't be able to actually go to the funeral while in quarantine, so not much point in coming.

GizmoBasil · 09/04/2021 19:43

Bloody hell the Harry Haters are out in force i see.

Surprised we haven't seen anyone say the interview was the thing that pushed him over the edge Hmm

toffeebutterpopcorn · 09/04/2021 19:47

I think someone in the states said that (on Fox?). They were hinting at it being Megan’s fault.

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2021 19:49

Oh no doubt without Megan he'd have lived another twenty years!

MaggieFS · 09/04/2021 19:49

I hope Harry does make it, but I'd forgotten Meghan is pregnant. That may genuinely affect things.

Actually I did see one online!
AnneElliott · 09/04/2021 20:07

Very sad for the Queen and his family. I met him through work when he opened a police training centre and he was brilliant. Funny and engaging and very good fun.

CauliflowerCheese30 · 09/04/2021 20:45

I'm not impressed with how Meghan and Harry have acted, but putting that aside it's ridiculous for anyone to suggest it's in anyway Meghan's fault ffs, I really do hope Harry comes over for the funeral as you can see in photo's on the internet how much he loves his Grandad.

MissingMyOldLife · 09/04/2021 20:55

Harry, unfortunately, is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't come back for the funeral. He will be booed if he does and castigated if he doesn't. It is a no-win. As for Meghan, it is way too early for her to show her face here. She is not welcome and there would be eggs at the ready I reckon. Best she stays away.

RoseAndRose · 09/04/2021 21:03

Meghan is too pregnant to be travelling

Harry should not be travelling if quarantine restrictions mean there is any chance of missing the birth

mermaidsariel · 09/04/2021 21:36

I don’t think she has any intention of setting foot in the UK again.
