Just heard Prince Philip has died

That’s sad. I feel sorry for the queen.

Poor queen. I’m sad. I met him and liked him immensely.

Very sad.

@Akire Completely agree. It will come to us all and I think it’s the way most of us would hope to leave this world - at home with our loved ones. I feel very sad for the Queen and the rest of the family. Losing a loved one at any age is heartbreaking

The poor Queen. How on Earth will his funeral be managed at the moment? Very sad but he had an amazing life.

They have interrupted regular programming to play an obviously pre prepared description of his life from meeting the queen. A bit spooky to think how many of these they must have ready to go.

@mermaidsariel I'd hazard a guess that of course it won't be the state funeral for which plans will already be in place. Likely something private and compliant with the rules, to be followed by a grand memorial service in future?

It could be a blessing for the family to be able to pay their respects in private given some of the recent hoo-ha, and particularly if Harry is to come back for it.

He has lived to a great age. I would have liked to see him reach the 100 year milestone (and receive a telegram from his wife!). Very sad for the Queen, he was her rock throughout.

He was born before all of my grandparents. I find it amazing thay this queen has been the only monarch I have ever known, my parents have ever known and reigned for most of my my grandparents lives, as well as being the monarch for my children until almost teens (so far).

A long life, well lived. What a fantastic age to live to. I'm just So sorry the past year has been so horrendous for them. At least he was at home when he died.

I think he would, it is at times like this people realise what is important. Part of the itv coverage stated they had ‘left the family’ but they were at pains to say they were leaving duties rather than the family itself.

I feel so sorry for the queen, she’s had an awful time of it & been humiliated by her family and now her dh is dead.

I hope Harry stays away tbh. He’s caused enough trouble.

I've read that too. Didn't want a fuss. So he will get that wish.

There will now be lots of speculation about whether Harry will come back for the funeral. I am not convinced he will.
