Sad for the family & those who loved him.

I guess Harry will find a way of getting over if he wants to.

Unlike some of us who had to miss a parent's funeral due to restrictions.
(Yes I realise he's a Gp not a parent)

Aspiringmatriarch · 09/04/2021 13:08

International travel is allowed for funerals as far as I'm aware.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 09/04/2021 13:10

London has a lot of tourists around now - loads. Not sure of the US has restrictions on travel
though.

EasterIsComing · 09/04/2021 13:12

@Ifailed

A very sad day for the family and the nation.

For his family, of course, but the nation?

Well the news announced we are in “state mourning” until after the funeral has taken place so it seems like an accurate statement to me.
Jocasta2018 · 09/04/2021 13:13

He gave up so much to stand behind the Queen - his Naval career to become 'a bloody amoeba' as he described himself. Takes a rather special man to do that.

SunshineCake · 09/04/2021 13:15

This was not expected today by me and I am just so heartbroken for the Queen. Flowers.

Endlesscleaning · 09/04/2021 13:24

So sad, RIP Prince Philip.

MintyMabel · 09/04/2021 13:36

There will now be lots of speculation about whether Harry will come back for the funeral.

Yes, plenty of people speculating about whether there will be speculation. 🙄 Any excuse to get a Harry froth going.

He won’t win no matter what he does. If he comes he shouldn’t be travelling, if he doesn’t, he should have, if they both do, she shouldn’t have, blah blah blah.

Tal45 · 09/04/2021 13:37

So sad, I hope it brings the family together.

chaosrabbitland · 09/04/2021 13:38

@IpreferInchyraBlue

I'm no royalist, but I'm very sad for the queen.
same , there was never going to be a good time for him to go , but especially not now with everything that has happened
NVision · 09/04/2021 13:40

Let's not let this turn into a H&M hate parade or being blamed for pushing him over the line with their interview.

rubyrose44 · 09/04/2021 13:42

I am thoroughly anti-monarchist, but I feel very sorry for HM and for the wider family. A long life well-lived, but a terrible loss for the Queen.

I also think this will herald a change within the monarchy, though.

nonevernotever · 09/04/2021 13:52

I'm sad too. I'm another who met him and really liked him.

BiggerBoat1 · 09/04/2021 13:56

Very sad. I feel for the Queen. What a terrible time she has had this year.
Hopefully the Covid restrictions will allow them to have a quiet, family funeral.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 09/04/2021 13:58

according to the mirror website she will now enter 8 days of mourning

unchienandalusia · 09/04/2021 14:00

I'm sad too, sadder than I thought I'd be. Huge sympathies for the Queen who has lost her rock. I think this quote from her sums it up well..

'I and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know.'

ExConstance · 09/04/2021 14:01

Itis very sad. I've just been reading the Guardian obituary, what a life he had, left with th eimage of him being rowed out in an orange box as a baby with his family to a ship to escape Greece.

TSSDNCOP · 09/04/2021 14:09

It is extraordinary that discombobulating feeling I have when a person that has existed as long as I have lived dies.

A long life, initially much without a home, tragic early losses and with 73 years one step behind HM.

Im enjoying hearing today of his achievements, dynamism, intelligence, bravery, sporting achievements. Giving up his stellar naval career must have taken some mettle. My father served in Malta at the same time, and never stopped reminiscing until his death at 86.

The gaffes are always brought up, but when you consider how many people he met and how many engagements he undertook slip ups, whilst unfortunate, were actually fairly few.

guanciale · 09/04/2021 14:20

will be mad if H&M don't have to respect quarantine rules like everybody else

Tealightsandd · 09/04/2021 14:22

Very sad news. RIP Prince Philip. I feel sorry for the Queen.

KarensChoppyBob · 09/04/2021 14:23

That's what's added to my sadness today TSSDNCOP, and I'm no royalist. So many will be learning for the first time about his traumatic early years and further sacrifices in life. I do think he made gaffes which by modern eyes can seem and are awful but as a man of his time he was misunderstood by many.

Tealightsandd · 09/04/2021 14:24

As for travel. London has been wide open throughout the pandemic. Loads of 'essential' work trips but also 8,000 tourists a day coming to the UK mostly through Heathrow airport.

TurquoiseDress · 09/04/2021 14:43

Felt very sad hearing the news, most especially for the Queen & close family members

Re comments about Harry attending the funeral, he most certainly will be able to travel for this as it's one of the special circumstances to allow travel abroad at the moment

TurquoiseDress · 09/04/2021 14:44

Well, actually if you are travelling out of the UK at the moment

No idea re the States

MaggieFS · 09/04/2021 15:37

Regardless of feelings about the Royals, he has been a presence for so long, it does feel a little disconcerting to be reminded of mortality. DH and I summed it up as the loss of a little bit of stability in an otherwise unstable world.
