To wonder why Harry doesn't drop his titles now he's free of The Firm

He and Meghan wanted the freedom to earn their own money and good luck to them there. He's confirmed two new roles and his new employers are introducing him as "Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex".

For his self respect, why doesn't he ask to be called Harry Wales or Harry Mountbatten Windsor. Then he'd know he's being hired for his skills rather than being used for his royal connections.

Money. He doesn't have any skills, he got shit results and landed himself a high paying job because of his title.

AlexaShutUp · 24/03/2021 14:05

Let's be honest, they have hired him because of who he is rather than what he can do, whatever he chooses to call himself.

MiddleParking · 24/03/2021 14:05

No he wouldn’t Hmm

Of course he is, all theyu want is his name on a letterhead.
As for giving up his title now he is 'free' of the Royal Family, as he wanted, if he does that he loses the one thing that makes him attractive!
Justcallmebebes · 24/03/2021 14:11

Because the pair of them seem to pick and choose which parts of being royal benefit them and discard the rest.

I'll also find it odd that two people who profess to want nothing more than global love, peace and harmony have caused so much global hatred, discord and hurt

LibertyMole · 24/03/2021 14:11

Because he’s an elitist and wants everyone to treat him as better than them due to his bloodline.

DrSbaitso · 24/03/2021 14:12

Then he'd know he's being hired for his skills rather than being used for his royal connections.

Would he?

Even he can't fail to realise that being a royal is literally his only USP. It may seem pompous to hang on to it, but we all know that all his opportunities come only because he's a prince, so he actually might as well hold on to it. It's the only reason people are interested in his brand so it doesn't make much sense to drop it.

LemonTT · 24/03/2021 14:14

Well all the titles are meaningless anyway. Conferred by the queen to her family. Anyone setting stock by them is a fool.

Just because your mother or grandmother makes you a duke doesn’t mean you have integrity.

Whether they live in LA or London its all just trappings.

He may as well use them as any of the others.

He could call himself Fred if he chose to, people would still know he was Prince Harry and treat him accordingly. He’s never going to be hired into a senior level job for his skills because he doesn’t have any.

Yes, but without doing any duty. Anything he does is for himself.
activitythree · 24/03/2021 14:15

Perhaps his opinion of his self respect differs to yours.

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 24/03/2021 14:16

Did you say the same about Diana, Princess of Wales, after she was divorced and left the royal family? Do you feel that Edward VII should have rescinded his title of Duke of Windsor after his abdication?

CateTown · 24/03/2021 14:16

Think about the positive PR

"Mumsnet are delighted to welcome Harry Wales to the team. Harry started life as a Prince, served as an Officer in the Army seeing active duty before becoming a full time working senior member of the British royal family. Upon his marriage to the former American actress, Meghan Markle, he became a Duke and the royal couple devoted their time to philanthropy (blah blah). Disillusioned with royal life and feeling frustrated with the media, the couple moved to the USA to pursue other interests (blah blah)"

Obviously, a professional could do a more polished press release, but you get my drift!

Typo 🙄 Edward VIII

WiseOwlOne · 24/03/2021 14:17

When I read about this job, i was open mouthed, is he not nervous? Does he not worry he isn't equipped? I worry about going up ine grade in my civil service job!!

"I'll also find it odd that two people who profess to want nothing more than global love, peace and harmony have caused so much global hatred, discord and hurt"

Quite.

Feedingthebirds1 · 24/03/2021 14:18

Because he wants the glamour of being royal, but not the duty bits.

You think editors, or indeed any other people, need an introduction to who Harry is and his career path?

The positive PR here is literally "We got Prince Harry on board, cha ching!"

Sansaplans · 24/03/2021 14:21

I'm still spinning from the irony of Rupert Murdoch's daughter in law working on something about misinformation in the press. Realistically he will only get any 'job' because of who he is and the publicity he can bring to an organisation. For those who talk of opening access to the workplace or widening participation, it's a bit rich to go in and take jobs off of those who missed out by not being born a prince.

Who cares though really, good luck to them all.

Susie477 · 24/03/2021 14:23

The answer to this question is glaringly obvious.

Because he wants to trade on his royal titles to make millions and maintain his social status while not doing any of the boring work or tedious duties entailed in being royal.

CateTown · 24/03/2021 14:24

Did you say the same about Diana, Princess of Wales, after she was divorced and left the royal family?

No. I think she was treated terribly by Charles and - as the mother of the future king - should have kept her HRH (and I'm a republican!). And she used her title for her charity work, not to earn a living.

Do you feel that Edward VII should have rescinded his title of Duke of Windsor after his abdication?

Yes.

I think he wants his cake and to eat it too! Honestly whether you like the RF or not ,almost any one of them is doing their bit to fulfil public duty, thereby earning their titles. If he drops the "Prince"title and becomes plain old Harry Wales ,then he wont be so attractive! H and M have told us they feel Royal Life isnt for them and so be it ,but he cant let go of his Title!

Helpful for people who’ve been in comas for the last 30 years. Bit gratuitous other than that.
MrsFin · 24/03/2021 14:26

Royals like people to know they're royal.
King Constantine of Greece, as just one example) calls himself king, although he isn't a king. Greece abolished their monarchy years ago (and it wasn't a historic monarchy anyway)

Do you actually think he has to do any real work. I just see his job as him attaching his name to the "product"
