Harry appointed senior exec at $1bn startup

Just seen that Harry has been appointed Chief Impact Officer at a billion dollar valued Silicon Valley startup.
This feels so unfair. I know people who have worked for years first qualifying then gaining experience in their field, without a hope of a job like this. Harry of the 2 A levels and zero formal work experience outside of the army. He can bleat about the hardships of privilege all he wants but he’d never get near a job like this as a private “normal” citizen.

@Souther

I can't get worked up. I actually think its embarrassing. They are basically hawking him out for his title. He is a Prince he will bring a lot of attention to their brand and product. Hes basically being used for his name.
I don’t think he cares, probably a take-the-money-and-run scenario
MrsTreglowan · 23/03/2021 17:44

Good for him, now people may stop whining about him taking 70p per year from the taxpayer

He needs to earn money somehow.
cyclingmad · 23/03/2021 17:46

Surprise surprise, now they are not being funded by the taxpayer why do you feel the need to continually bash him? He got a job and earning his own money.

I bet you could name a number of people in all the companies you have ever worked in, who've got jobs and didn't have right skills or experience and weren't deserving of it.

I know I can!

And given there is very little detail over what his role entails all your doing is speculating and making massive assumptions.

Hmm

Why is the sovereign grant divided up like this? We don’t divide up spending on military/NHS/benefits per person. Overall it’s a huge amount of money, 70 million pounds.

@mummywithhermini

God help the company concerned. Harry is not known as an excellent business man. He barely scraped together some A levels at school.
There are plenty of successful business men who didn't even make it to A level ! - so I don't you need to worry too much. The company will do well out of Harry and Harry will also get what he wants from this.
Wondermule · 23/03/2021 17:56

@PreparationPreparationPrep yes but Harry isn’t one of them.

Sussex Royal got closed down, and does anyone even know what’s happening with Archewell these days? Aside from logo changes and endless patenting .

PreparationPreparationPrep · 23/03/2021 17:59

@Justmuddlingalong

I await the lectures about how he can empathise with the working population, juggling parenthood and a job.
Like Kate you mean - really understanding how parents feel as she is also home learning and WFH ?? Hmmwith 3 children !!
Wondermule · 23/03/2021 18:00

It isn’t either/or, @PreparationPreparationPrep - unless the poster had been comparing him to Kate.

VanGoghsDog · 23/03/2021 18:02

@twilightcafe

What is a Chief Impact Officer?
It's a new title fig the person responsible for what used to be CSR policy and is now called ESG policy.

So, wanky stuff.

CIO doesn't really have much to do with the business side of things.
Lochmorlich · 23/03/2021 18:08

No worse than mp’s working 3 jobs at a time.
And senior civil servants retiring and walking into advisory roles in big corporations.
It’s all about knowing the right people.

Justmuddlingalong · 23/03/2021 18:08

The thread's about Harry's new job. Therefore I commented about Harry.

Souther · 23/03/2021 18:09

Exactly he needs to earn money.
Its definitely a step down for him the fact that hes had to look for a job.
I'm not being snobby but I dont think hes enjoying the fact he is having to look for work and earn his own money now. Its not something he has ever had to consider his whole life.

Roussette · 23/03/2021 18:23

There was something the other day on here on how he should get a job

That comment is incessant and has been since they've got together!

As for this...
"Harry is not known as an excellent business man. He barely scraped together some A levels at school"

So what? You need A levels to be able to work? I left school at 15 with nothing to speak of so where does that leave me. It's pathetic to criticise somone for not being an academic.

dopenguinsdance · 23/03/2021 18:28

He's reputedly sitting on £40 million in inherited wealth, Souther so he's hardly on the skids and 'having ...to earn his own money'. There are very few people who couldn't manage a very comfortable existence if that level of wealth was handed to them on a plate. Anyone who can't can only be massively profligate, massively greedy or have an incredibly over-inflated need to keep up with the (LA) Joneses. If he can earn his money by lecturing other people in his own little echo chamber, that's fine by me. And if it saves me from hearing his 7th hand incoherent platitudes ever again and seeing his miserable gob plastered everywhere, FAN-BLOODY- TASTIC!
BTW I'm sure the PoW is glad he's got a job - he can start paying the Bank of Royal Daddy back now.

VanGoghsDog · 23/03/2021 18:29

Yeah, I don't have A levels, only 4 O levels, and I'm really good at my job and at business generally.

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 18:32

I am happy for Harry, that he has a job and therefore some autonomy. Being wholly dependent on Meghan is not great for Harry, hopefully he will make some friends, earn some money and enjoy himself in the process.

The idea of Harry stuck in that place day after day as Meghan lived her best life would have been a greater worry personally.

Wondermule · 23/03/2021 18:32

Yes but you’ve got to where you are through talent and hard work. You can’t compare it to being on the Royal springboard.
Lauren15 · 23/03/2021 18:34

It’s all about knowing the right people Sadly this is so true. In this case I don’t think H is taking a job away from someone else better qualified. It’s a role which has been created for him to make use of his prestige. Again this happens a lot too. My df, who had a senior government role, got an undemanding role in a company upon retirement because it looked good for the company to have his name attached to them.

What a disgusting comment. Not every child is academic. Plenty of children who do not have qualifications to their name have other skills that allow them to find good jobs and earn good money.

I know plenty of them and plenty of people with qualifications who are incompetent.

Shame on you.

eaglejulesk · 23/03/2021 18:35

Meanwhile in the real world I, with over 40 years of experience in admin, cannot get a job at all.

Mind you, I would rather not have a made-up sounding job which was given to me simply because of my name.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 23/03/2021 18:36

He's got a high profile that's why

DogsSausages · 23/03/2021 18:39

Is it a 9 to 5, five days a week job or just sitting on the board and having help to promote the company.,

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/03/2021 18:40

Chief impact officer. Let’s hope he doesn’t make a car crash out of it? Wink

But seriously. It will be nice if he does something positive with his life and gets rid of the anger and bitterness. Independence will be good for him. But I can’t help but feel he’s getting further and further away from his personal humanitarian goals right now.
