Harry appointed senior exec at $1bn startup

Just seen that Harry has been appointed Chief Impact Officer at a billion dollar valued Silicon Valley startup.
This feels so unfair. I know people who have worked for years first qualifying then gaining experience in their field, without a hope of a job like this. Harry of the 2 A levels and zero formal work experience outside of the army. He can bleat about the hardships of privilege all he wants but he’d never get near a job like this as a private “normal” citizen.

@DogsSausages

Is it a 9 to 5, five days a week job or just sitting on the board and having help to promote the company.,
It's not a board position, it's an executive position (usually), so an actual job. But I doubt it'd be 9-5 for a tech start up.
Lauren15 · 23/03/2021 18:50

I’ve just read what the company’s about. Big companies are really getting into well being, a trend accelerated by the pandemic, so it should do well. However it does look like H’s role will mainly involve appearing at company events.

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 18:51

He's got a high profile that's why

I think they have got a tainted profile actually now.
A brand now many will not touch after Oprah, so it is just as well he has taken this job now whilst he can.

DioneTheDiabolist · 23/03/2021 18:51

Mind you, I would rather not have a made-up sounding job which was given to me simply because of my name.

I would. I would fucking love it.Grin

RickiTarr · 23/03/2021 18:51

@VanGoghsDog

Yeah, I don't have A levels, only 4 O levels, and I'm really good at my job and at business generally.
I bet your CV is more impressive than Harry’s.
Thepilotlightsgoneout · 23/03/2021 18:51

I’d have so much more respect for the lot of them if even one of them got a proper job

Me too! A proper job like serving in the Falklands with the navy...or flying helicopters with the army in a war zone... or doing search & rescue in the RAF... or flying an air ambulance....proper useful jobs like that.

I don’t think engaging in warfare is as admirable as you do, but even so, they only ‘worked’ for about 5 years in those roles. What was Harry’s excuse for quitting?
RickiTarr · 23/03/2021 18:55

@Justmuddlingalong

I'm not moaning. It's a real life soap opera and I've got my popcorn ready for the next episode.
Yes. The royals haven’t been this entertaining since the War of the Waleses. So on the entertainment side we are getting good value.

Unfortunately, actual people are being hurt, and the UK’s reputation is getting a bashing. So it’s not all larks.

Yep. At least W’s Air Ambulance pilot job was an actual, useful role that he had trained and become qualified for.
SignsofSpring · 23/03/2021 18:58

I can't get over, as someone else mentioned, that he couldn't find any mental health support for his own wife, despite their millions, so quite how he's an expert in mental health I am really not sure. It's vindicating for them, though, in terms of moving to the US as it appears there's a huge appetite for paying ex-royals millions for doing nothing.

Lauren15 · 23/03/2021 18:59

Harry apparently quit the army to take on more royal duties, ironically.

jessstan2 · 23/03/2021 19:01

I looked up what a chief impact officer does and I think Harry could do that. A 'chief' will have plenty of others working on the same thing. If he doesn't suit, he doesn't have to stay and can do something else.

Good for him.

SunbathingDragon · 23/03/2021 19:03

I spent many years in a previous career working on the air ambulance. Being a pilot for one isn’t an easy or glamorous job. Some of the patients, and what happened, never leaves you, no matter who you are.

Roussette · 23/03/2021 19:03

Well... Harry trained for three years and was an Apache pilot so not sure how that's an 'at least William did blah blah'

Bargebill19 · 23/03/2021 19:04

Missing the loot totally...

But does chief impact office remind anyone of whack-a-mole?

Roussette · 23/03/2021 19:04

Yes, good for him, agreed.

Loads of posters have been telling him for god knows how long to get a job. Well he has!

RickiTarr · 23/03/2021 19:05

@Roussette

He’s not taken a job he’s trained and qualified for, such as a pilot, he’s taken a job as a “Chief Impact Officer”.

See the difference l?

SunbathingDragon · 23/03/2021 19:06

@Roussette

And good for Harry. I don’t see why that wouldn’t be considered an achievement.
Roussette · 23/03/2021 19:09

Ricki I wasn't replying to you, I was replying to the poster who said... At least W’s Air Ambulance pilot job was an actual, useful role that he had trained and become qualified for

And I said what I said.

Not sure what your point is.

He's got a job that so many posters have been banging on about that he should do.

RickiTarr · 23/03/2021 19:10

I think there must be something about being multi-millionaires with multi million£ family allowances topping you up, that makes you feel as though you need ALL THE MONEY to get by. Any normal person would consider the Netflix and Spotify deals crazy money, and be throwing all their energy into media production activities. Even if they don’t make the content, there’s plenty to do at executive level.

missbridgerton · 23/03/2021 19:11

Perhaps he's in charge of tossing the word salad............... but they couldn't call him a tosser as his job title, so this involved some creative thinking.
