Harry appointed senior exec at $1bn startup

Just seen that Harry has been appointed Chief Impact Officer at a billion dollar valued Silicon Valley startup.
This feels so unfair. I know people who have worked for years first qualifying then gaining experience in their field, without a hope of a job like this. Harry of the 2 A levels and zero formal work experience outside of the army. He can bleat about the hardships of privilege all he wants but he’d never get near a job like this as a private “normal” citizen.

All publicity is good publicity and all that Grin

TownTalkJewels · 23/03/2021 15:14

It’s a silly title but it sounds like a strategy role & potentially some fundraising. I work in the social impact sector and it really irks me that celebrities think this is something that doesn’t require skills, just opinions.

People have dedicated their lives to becoming experts in the mental health space. Is Harry even ‘proficient in MS office??’ Somehow doubt it.

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 23/03/2021 15:15

@Ritascornershop I've only come up with princess Margaret's grandson earning as a personal trainer while at university.

MadinMarch · 23/03/2021 15:16

Oh well...at least we can now all rest easy that he'll be able to pay for his own security for a few years.
Next issue please!

vomcomvomcom · 23/03/2021 15:17

Forget Oprah I want to see him, Charles and James Hewitt on Maury doing a paternity test spesh!

ajandjjmum · 23/03/2021 15:17

Bet he'll be at his desk by 8 every morning! Grin

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 15:19

Do you think they will appreciate the fact he is a raindrop? I hope they are nice to him.

Kimye4eva · 23/03/2021 15:20

They’ve made the post for him. He’s not taken a job from someone else.

Lordamighty · 23/03/2021 15:22

As long as he isn’t being paid by the Uk taxpayers I don’t really care.

LadyCatStark · 23/03/2021 15:22

@florentina1

According to a spokesperson for the start up “A chimpo is a meaty and meaningful role. Employees are empowered to go above and beyond their best self”.
Chimpo?? Surely someone’s having a laugh here?

I was thinking the same thing lady can you post the link florentina

CauliflowerCheese30 · 23/03/2021 15:27

Good, now they can live their life's quietly and privately and pay for their own security.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 23/03/2021 15:27

Meh. Under qualified/little experience people land jobs like this every day. I imagine what flack (little) a company may attract for this is massively outweighed by the kudos it gets for it.

So yup jobs for the boys and all. Best to put your energy and annoyance into activities which raise awareness/create opportunities for those deserving of roles or those hugely under represented OP.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 23/03/2021 15:29

Employees are empowered to go above and beyond their best self”.

////

I don't think I could take any company which uses language like "best self" seriously, tbh Confused

partyatthepalace · 23/03/2021 15:30

@Hotcuppatea

He's not too bright by all accounts. I wonder how long it will take them to figure out they've been sold a pup.
He’s just window dressing for publicity - he’s an ex army officer dash ribbon cutter - they aren’t employing him to actually do anything
TownTalkJewels · 23/03/2021 15:30

@GrumpyHoonMain William isn’t competing with other people who have actually worked hard to develop the skills required for a role like this.

As far as I’m aware, no one goes to university & spends years in miserable entry level jobs in order to succeed at prince-ing.

Nonetheless, thanks for drawing attention to the issue of racism towards gingers.

Oldbutstillgotit · 23/03/2021 15:31

On this anniversary of the first lockdown and the day of reflection with HM etc issuing statements I think this announcement could have been delayed a couple of days .

TownTalkJewels · 23/03/2021 15:37

‘As chief impact officer at BetterUp Prince Harry will be expected to help with product strategy decisions and charitable collaborations’

This is a real job, if it’s what he’s actually doing.

redspecial · 23/03/2021 15:38

* "Employees are empowered to go above and beyond their best self”* how can you go above and beyond your best? your best is your best. who makes up this guff? what bollocks.

step down, step back to step up, go above and beyond. its the royal Jerusalema.

redspecial · 23/03/2021 15:39

help with product strategy decisions ordering stationery?

partyatthepalace · 23/03/2021 15:41

@GrumpyHoonMain

You think it’s unfair that harry got a job, not unfair that william has basically inherited his title by being born? Your racism is showing. Do you call Harry a race traitor in your free time too?
@GrumpyHoonMain

The OP is commenting on Harry being given a job for which he has no qualifications. In contrast William is doing the job for which he has been trained and raised, whether you think his job is a waste of resources is another matter.

You don’t have to be a Royalist to see the difference. There is no evidence the OP is racist from her post. You are being unfair and inflammatory for no purpose.

Iamthewombat · 23/03/2021 15:49

His cousin Beatrice is ‘Vice President of strategy and partnerships’ for a software business. Who knows what she does all day, in between holidays?

His cousin Peter Philips did a grace and favour job at RBS where he spent five years ‘setting up a sponsorship programme with formula one’. You could do that in five weeks!

His cousin Zara Tindall is handsomely remunerated as a non executive director of Cheltenham racecourse for a few days’ work a year.

So dear old Harry is simply following tradition: milk your royal connections to get a pretend job that pays well. More fool anyone who pays them.

AliceMcK · 23/03/2021 15:49

I ffs! People complaining he’s not getting a job now your complaining he has 🙄

TwilightSkies · 23/03/2021 15:49

Right so he has no real skills or qualifications and has just landed this cushy ‘job’, being paid millions to probably just be wheeled out every now and again to gain publicity, give little speeches and shake hands.
Minimum effort yet will be able to live an amazing, privileged lifestyle.

Um......kinda like what the rest of the Royal family has been doing since forever?? But yeah, let’s defend them and shit on Harry for doing exactly what they do 😂
