Harry appointed senior exec at $1bn startup

Just seen that Harry has been appointed Chief Impact Officer at a billion dollar valued Silicon Valley startup.
This feels so unfair. I know people who have worked for years first qualifying then gaining experience in their field, without a hope of a job like this. Harry of the 2 A levels and zero formal work experience outside of the army. He can bleat about the hardships of privilege all he wants but he’d never get near a job like this as a private “normal” citizen.

Even if you genuinely believe that you are providing valuable business leadership.

I suspect they did brief her, but that it’s a bit like having a baby - you can’t really understand the all encompassing nature of it until you live it.

merrymouse · 27/03/2021 07:59

I bet W&K have nightmares about George marrying a woman of colour.

I don’t think they can assume that he would want to marry a woman.

ImAncient · 27/03/2021 08:00

Of course she was briefed. Harry said as much in their engagement interview. But until you live something you can’t understand it.

Mummy I’m reporting your horrid racist post.

@merrymouse

Re: the Wessexes, Google has answered my question - good terms from the Crown Estate.

Still doesn’t explain Andrew’s difficulties. Perhaps the problem is that the Crown Estate can provide a good life style if you like horses and loaned antiques, but not if you aspire to private jets and ski chalets.

What was the name of that Tesco style mansion the Queen gave the Yorks as a wedding present? He eventually sold it to someone very important from Kyrgyzstan or some such -stan for an infeasibly overinflated price, I think. Then was given tenancy of Royal Lodge after Queen Mother died but a while later couldn’t afford to maintain their purchase of a ski chalet.

One has to wonder what Andy and Fergie fritter such enormous sums on. What expense or financial disadvantage do they have that Anne and Edward don’t have? (Ignoring Charles there because he has his Duchy income.)

It’s a puzzle but it’s tempting to make wild guesses.

Mummy195 · 27/03/2021 08:05

Like I said before we don’t see the royals as celebrities, we see them more like politicians - we want them to do their duty with the minimum of fuss/cost and appear to respect the public. We want to see them touring hospitals, opening community centres, visiting factories etc.

And H&M did all of this. Planting trees, opening little curtains etc. But the tabloids decided not to show you those, but they are all over the internet.

We don’t want to see them flying about on private jets, hobnobbing with A list celebrities and spending the taxpayer’s money like water. We don’t want to see them editing Vogue, tweeting baby foot photos and touting for work at film premieres.

All the royals take private jets, PC almost exclusively. Lots of pics of W&K with Kanye West, JZ, Basketball stars, footballers etc. PC edited House and Towncountry. KM and Anne were in the cover of vogue. Eugenie showed us pics of baby hands. The film premier was for a charity they were doing for elephants and the voiceover money went directly to the elephant charity.

What is your point exactly?

Mummy195 · 27/03/2021 08:07

@ImAncient

Mummy I’m reporting your horrid racist post.

First of all, there is nothing racist about calling out racism.

And the brief was not complete as they never told her about the racism she would encounter.

Mummy195 · 27/03/2021 08:09

I don’t think they can assume that he would want to marry a woman.

That must have kept them up too from the sounds of intolerance the firm has.

merrymouse · 27/03/2021 08:20

And the brief was not complete as they never told her about the racism she would encounter.

It’s difficult to believe that she didn’t think racism was a problem in Britain. However perhaps she failed to understand that the nature of the Royal Family means that there is almost no ability to change problems within the family, or to express an opinion or defend against attack. Maybe she understood that in theory but just couldn’t foresee how that would feel in practice. I don’t think anyone would.

Lockdownbear · 27/03/2021 08:22

I imagine the Wessex only use a fraction of that house.

I can't imagine what the Yorks spend money on. Fergie has ended up in debt a few times, its reported that Epstein gave her money to clear her debt.
And people laughed when I suggested that Harry could end up skint. But the Yorks prove that it is possible.

Anne's house was bought for her by her mum.

I don't believe for a second the W&K would be upset if George brought home a woman of colour. Just as long as she is a UK National and any sort of job except an Actor, military background would be marvellous. Preferably young enough to have time to ensure that she isn't rushing into Royal life.

merrymouse · 27/03/2021 08:24

I also believe that she would have found the PA situation very difficult.

I can imagine the AIBU about BIL and MIL.

No, no one would have foreseen this level. As H said, and we saw, it was done in a such a brazen way.

But is it really that difficult to reign in bigotry?

This is not acceptable for the RF to be like this and say, that is just how we always were. Not in this day and age. Racism and other discrimination is something that impacts other people's lives. It's not the same as saying I'm used to wearing my slippers and taking my tea at this time........... etc.

What the interview was there for was to open up a discussion that certain changes have to be made. Yes, there will be resistance from the RF, but I hope they will make the change.

The person who made the skin tone remark, would not have thought of this question and would certainly not be 'concerned' if the culture in the RF was that of anti-racism. I also note that the palace statement, makes no mention of "we are anti-racist here" nor "we do not condone racism". Just a denial.

I really hope anti-discrimination groups put pressure on them.

Mummy195 · 27/03/2021 08:34

Just as long as she is a UK National

Well that's xenophobia !

Lockdownbear · 27/03/2021 08:39

Not xenophobia, ensures she understands UK culture and lacks desire to say all the right things and then persuade him to go and live in her country as shes homesick or whatever.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 27/03/2021 08:43

@Blueberries0112

She probably felt it can’t be much worst than her celebrity life
What? She didn’t have a celebrity life. She was a very minor not very good actress in a cable show no one had heard of in the UK. She WANTED the celebrity life though.
Lockdownbear · 27/03/2021 08:44

Given the concerns were said to Harry I'll take his version that it was early in their relationship.
The concern could easily be are you sure that you can cope with any racist remarks from the press both directed at yourself, future wife and any potential children.

Lockdownbear · 27/03/2021 08:49

Georges potential wife, they'd probably be ok with a lady from a Commonwealth country, as long as she in committed to living raising children in the UK.

Samcro · 27/03/2021 08:49

how do you know she was a not very good actress if no one in the uk had heard of Suits?
it was actually a well watched show that had numerous series.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 27/03/2021 08:50

@merrymouse

16 bathrooms sounds very stressful even if you just have to manage the staff cleaning the 16 bathrooms, however I’m confused about how either the Wessexes or Sussexes can afford all of this, given that Andrew has has got into so much trouble financing property.

Just the maintenance/cleaning/repairs of both properties sound eye-wateringly expensive.

I assume the staff are paid for by the Palace in Sophie and Edwards case. The house is ridiculously huge but it’s not mortgaged , it belongs to the Crown I assume. S and E are at least working for the RF and Sophie in particular does great work. They aren’t looking for attention for themselves all the time, they get on quietly with their causes. H and M aren’t supporting the family or doing any good work as Royals now. They can’t expect to be on the payroll or expect perks. If they want to out in their own they have to make it in their own .
GoLightlyontheEarth · 27/03/2021 08:51

I tried watching it last night because I was desperate for something to watch. I lasted five minutes it was so awful.
Blueberries0112 · 27/03/2021 08:54

Suits is a popular series

Samcro · 27/03/2021 08:55

@GoLightlyontheEarth that doesn't mean it was bad, just not to your taste.

Lockdownbear · 27/03/2021 08:55

@GoLightlyontheEarth I agree Meghan wants the celebrity life and glamour. But without the mundane travelling around visiting bin factories.

Anyone who has travelled for business will tell you it's not as glamorous as others think. You travel, go to meeting / event, go to dinner with the same people, work to make conversation, and travel home.
