Harry appointed senior exec at $1bn startup

Just seen that Harry has been appointed Chief Impact Officer at a billion dollar valued Silicon Valley startup.
This feels so unfair. I know people who have worked for years first qualifying then gaining experience in their field, without a hope of a job like this. Harry of the 2 A levels and zero formal work experience outside of the army. He can bleat about the hardships of privilege all he wants but he’d never get near a job like this as a private “normal” citizen.

@AliceMcK

I ffs! People complaining he’s not getting a job now your complaining he has 🙄

These pile will never be satisfied with anything. They just hate Harry and Meghan.

RaspberryCoulis · 23/03/2021 16:41

@Loggerino

'Chief impact officer' = using him to get themselves noticed.
Absolutely this. The only thing he has to "contribute " is his title and profile.
RickiTarr · 23/03/2021 16:42

@nongnangning

Coo everyone is being sooo horrible! He GOT A JOB! That's great isn't it?
Using his royal title on a SanFran start up is ludicrous. Taking a senior management team job he isn’t qualified to do is ridiculous.
Parentpower20 · 23/03/2021 16:45

To be fair he is probably very knowledgable about charities and can give a pretty good speech. I think saying he has no skills is harsh, but of course people get paid for being famous that's surely no different than a known TV presenter getting paid more than a less well known one.

Oldbutstillgotit · 23/03/2021 16:46

I am pleased he has a job and hope he finds it fulfilling but what happened to “ just call me Harry “? Official announcement refers to him as Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex . I know that is still his title but I understood ( obviously wrongly) that they wanted to be known as Harry and Meghan.

RickiTarr · 23/03/2021 16:47

They seem to be taking a lot on at once.

For most people, a big media production contract would be a full time job.

It’s like they’re trying to be royals, but commercial royals in America, or something.

If he is being hired, as I suspect, for publicity, then Harry Wales or Mountbatten-Windsor isn’t likely to do it as well as Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. Ultimately I think most people can see that he needs his royal connection to support himself in the way he needs.
Wondermule · 23/03/2021 16:49

I doubt he will be doing much. It’s just a Royal face to add a bit of PR and sparkle.

It just grates that he decides to get a high paying job in the States and pay his taxes to them, when he and his family have drained ours for centuries.

He’s not very bright behind the posh voice and they’ll suss that before too long.

DioneTheDiabolist · 23/03/2021 16:49

Clearly his employers think he is qualified, since they offered him the post.

This is a really valid point, his whole life has resolved around being the 'face' of charities, turn up, shake hands, do a speech, smile and ask for money. Ultimately making an 'impact'.

His role at this start up is probably going to be similar. So he's probably more qualified than most.

If they'd given him a role at 'Chief Technology Officer' or 'Head of HR' I'd probably feel the same. But ultimately it's a role that has been created for someone 'known' to take.

ImpatiensI · 23/03/2021 16:52

Yes, bit of a weird hybrid! Remains to be seen if it'll work..

porcelaine · 23/03/2021 16:52

Tbh it just makes a joke of everyone who works as a mere cog in these companies. Harry is inarticulate, underqualified and has shown poor judgment multiple times while in the public eye (including well before he got married). As pps have pointed out he didn’t even advocate for his own wife’s mental health. The whole thing is like he’s Marie Antoinette on her farm in Versailles playing “jobs”. Archewells slogan “compassion in action”, all this pseudo intellectual stuff about compassion and changing the world and mental health advocacy when they have zero track record or gravitas. Yep, I’m bitter as someone who did the shitwork and put the hours in, in a private company for a long time, as did my H and my friends. I just wish Harry would stop moaning about how tough it all is. Maybe now at least he will focus on his job and won’t have time to be doing 2 hour+ tell all interviews and such.

Nothing to do with being a Royal then? Any person with 2 mediocre A-levels, a public history of racism and some light charity work experience would’ve got the job?
Alsohuman · 23/03/2021 16:53

@SoWhyNot

Is it really good PR to have someone involved in a mental health start up who was too embarrassed by his wife needing help that he didn’t seek any for her? It would put me off.
I doubt you’re their target audience. It’s for the benefit of shareholders who don’t care about anything except how much money they make.
BigFatLiar · 23/03/2021 16:53

It's probably just a way of using his name on the letterhead.

This is fairly common. Just think of how many ex PMs and ex Chancellors move on to high paid non-jobs in the city. It's a network of people looking after themselves.

One company I dealt with had 4 board members who met once a month in London (10-3 board meeting with lunch between 11:30 & 2:30) they were on 6 figure salaries. Seemed pretty standard for a lot of major businesses.

OverByYer · 23/03/2021 16:54

Made Up Job.
Harry is a gift that just keeps on giving.
If it’s an Officer role will he be wearing a smart uniform Grin

SoWhyNot · 23/03/2021 16:55

I doubt you’re their target audience. It’s for the benefit of shareholders who don’t care about anything except how much money they make. If they hire the wrong person though, they won’t make the same amount of money they could have done.

Wondermule · 23/03/2021 16:58

If you look at his actual ventures over which he has had a level of control - eg Sussex Royal - they’ve been disastrous. He tried to manage his own PR as a Royal, releasing a series of bizarre and snotty statements about ‘privacy’ which went down like a sack of spuds. Their labour/birth announcements were so mistimed that it appeared Meghan had a 5 minute labour when she actually had to transfer into hospital etc. They’ve lost many members of staff, and there have been accusations of bullying, which is never a good look. They have failed to commit to projects they have undertaken (eg the Royal Foundation) and just seem to start new ones constantly. They’re endlessly rebranding and shuffling things around and can’t seem to stick at something and see it through to a conclusion. And he has no sense of duty, didn’t he shaft a military event to tout for work for Meghan at the Lion King premiere?

Wondermule · 23/03/2021 16:58

Posted too soon. Basically anything he has had any real level of involvement in, he has never stuck at or done well.

DioneTheDiabolist · 23/03/2021 17:01

I expect that "being a royal" was the qualification that swung it for him.

minniemoocher · 23/03/2021 17:02

@RaindropsSplashRainbows

Well Zara (is she tindall now?) is a professional sportswoman, definitely a job. Prince Andrew's DD's have jobs of sorts and William flew search and rescue and air ambulances, this is not an easy job! There is a move towards getting proper work but hard when the press sniffs around you all the time!

porcelaine · 23/03/2021 17:02

@Wondermule great post and totally agreed. What happened to running a production company and doing these Spotify and Netflix things? Why does he need this role? It’s all just self aggrandising.

Nice uniform standing by the door showing people in.

Anne1958 · 23/03/2021 17:04

I’ve had Harry and Meghan up to my back teeth but I’m pleased Harry has found a job and I hope he does very well in it.

Mummy195 · 23/03/2021 17:05

Absolutely ridiculous for the same 'taxpayers' who were complaining about him, are now complaining about H getting a job.

He has worked on big projects with MH. Invicticus, Head Together, Sentebale, Wellchild etc. I would say he is more than qualified.

H&M are a successful and it makes their haters sick to their stomachs.lol
