The royal family

Harry has a lot to answer for.

I think Harry has a lot to answer for in this whole debacle. He's a 35 year old man brought up as a Royal who should know how the whole thing works and how to ensure his wife is fully educated in the rules and regs. of being a Royal. She was his wife, why on earth was she going to HR at the Palace for help with mental health problems? Harry has loads of experience and the knowledge of where to get help, what on earth was he doing? Harry knows full well that there is a rule about not being given a royal title when it comes to Archie. Why didn't he explain this to Megan? It has absolutely nothing to do with Archie's skin colour. Why is Harry moaning about having their security removed given his father paid £4m for their security after the tax payer stopped paying after they moved to California?
It is not the Royal family's decision whither or not someone has The Metropolitan Police fly over to do security duties.
Prince William sorted the press out when they were making disparaging comments about Kate, why didn't he put his foot down as his brother did?

@ImpatiensI

I've a bit dreaded the moment when Q steps down and PC takes over but actually I think it's time now. She's done her time and should have some years just to herself (if she wants that).

When C takes over the RF should be scaled back to the monarch and spouse + next in line their spouse and children. That's it.

I think Charles works very closely with her and does a fair chunk of the stuff that she would normally do, ie the Queen is semi retired.

I think your right that is what PC was aiming for Monarch, their kids, and heirs kids. So -
1, Queen,
2, Charles, Andrew, Ed and Anne,
3, William and Harry
4, George, Charlotte and Louis
5, In time George's kids.

Except its going to be very hard on William not to have Harry beside him. And puts pressure on William's kids as Charles's generation age.

I really think Royal accounts should be open to public scrutiny. None of us are going to know how much is being spent on this pair are we? Whilst they lounge around living the good life and continuing to whine

I'm far more concerned about what's being spent on and by the RF full stop.

Why didn’t they decide to live a quiet life in a modest house

What like a 2up 2 down like Andrew? 🤣

Lockdownbear · 20/03/2021 10:41

@Mummyoflittledragon

Should Charles pay for his DSs security bills?

I expect he would pay if Harry had worked with him. As is Harry is living on another continent in a house, which needs an inordinate amount of security as it isn’t a secure compound.

Why should PC cough up several million a year to protect Harry and Meghan because of their lifestyle choices?

Exactly. I think the more Charles gave them, the more they'd ask for.

You know like those CFer MN threads, I thought I'd help my kids out sort them a house. And now they want more, while they try to establish a business, but I don't rate their business plan.
Would you keep bailing them out?

ImpatiensI · 20/03/2021 10:45

@fafadebelem

Look at how differently MM handled public service compared to Michelle Obama.
It's remarks like this where I totally agree with people who say there's racism in some of the attitude towards MM. 'Why can't this black woman behave like that other black woman we approve of?' fgs.
BrieAndChilli · 20/03/2021 10:46

I don’t think H&M understand the hypocrisy of what they are saying!!

They said they didn’t want a public life, it was too intrusive.
Fine, if that’s what they want no-one begrudged them going off to Canada to lead a quieter life
But then they moaned about not getting security paid for them by a country they no longer wanted to serve or live in!!!
Now they are selling their souls and entire private life to the whole world in order to keep enough money for their lavish lifestyle!

If they had stayed in Canada, maybe invested in a couple of companies, done a bit of charity work of their choosing people would have a lot more respect for them. They are now basically trying to become Hollywood superstars with not real talent or skill base - so trying to be at the top of the A list without the years of grafting and working thier way up!

Apologies for derailing thread !

waltzingparrot · 20/03/2021 10:56

I can't believe they didn't see the potential in the role have them as President of the Queen's Commonwealth Trust. It fitted perfectly with their ideals of effecting social change for young people and travelling the commonwealth while their kids were small.

What a legacy they could have had. Here they'll be remembered for publicly betraying their family in a trashy interview where the interviewer forgot to interview them.

redspecial · 20/03/2021 10:57

What like a 2up 2 down like Andrew? a few years slumming it at Frogmore, then possibly on to Highgrove, Anmer or similar in a few years. The RF privately own a lot of incredible property, as the son then brother of the king H&M would have had their pick. Young George will be topping the list for Highgrove now.

W&K will be shunted into Clarence Ho before long too, H&M would easily have won the best appt in Kensington Palace when in town, not too shabby for either of them really. So many associations with Diana for them too.

It seems Harry always wanted out of royal life, M is just the catalyst but they've exited so spectacularly badly, with so little class, style or discretion they've just done themselves an almighty thick-un. A mortgage on a McMansion and a great deal of complaining at their lot. How impatient and demanding and spoilt.

Oh wow! That’s such lovely news. So wonderful to be there for it too.

Private Eye seem to have a good set of palace "leaders."

This week they pointed out that the Queen has always concentrated on matters of state, leaving family issues to Prince Philip, who would resolve them in his characteristic robust fashion. Wink For the last 10 years however this job has fallen to Charles, who hates confrontation, and him not returning calls because of this would be typical if things got heated.

It went on to say that Meghan took pains to separate "the Queen," (fulsome praise) from "the institution," but this was a mistake as the Queen sees herself and the institution as one and the same. Therefore, the article suggested, HMQ may be running out of goodwill.

@BrieAndChilli

I get the impression that Megan though marrying into the royal family would be becoming a mega celebrity, able to party on yachts and accept designer clothes and jewels, to snap your fingers and get what ever you want when ever you like Beyoncé or Oprah. What she got was an organisation based on tradition, being neutral eg not having strong opinions about politics or global events, a hierarchy of importance and a stiff British upper lip that don’t complain. Now I’m not saying that the royal family is a beacon of hope nor an example of a healthy fully functioning family but it’s no secret what they are like. I agree that Harry should have spelt it out very clearly. Maybe he did and Megan thought well I’ll just do what I want anyway, maybe he didn’t as he wanted to trap her first. I actually don’t disagree with thier decision to step away from the royal family BUT it has come across as hugely hypocritical- they want to step away to get some privacy, they can’t cope with the press intrusion, they don’t want any photos of Archie out there, they want to make it own thier own. They now have made it clear that actually they still wanted the money and the security that came with the job of being royal, they are happy to air all of their dirty laundry to the press, release videos and photos of Archie in order to further their own agenda and create the most unprivate furore around themselves as possible!!! If they had sloped off to Canada, done some charity work, maybe invested in a production company where they could produce things that aligned with thier values, etc etc then I think people wouldn’t have turned on them so much.
Totally agree. Very good post and spot on.

I think Harry didn't tell her because he didn't want to loose her. He had already lost two girlfriends because they saw that marrying into the RF would be like.

Interesting isn't it when it turned out the woman who married him didn't like it either. Harry must have met thousands of women but he tended to pick the type too independent to fit in with the RF life.

I think the biggest problem H&M have got is - H&M! Like others said, they self-sabotage, I don't think they're a good match for each other at all.

Lucaslucas1612 · 20/03/2021 11:57

Why did they do it?
I think it's a case of what Meghan wants, she gets. She probably brought up the idea and told Harry it's her opportunity to tell their side of the story, talk about mental health- an important topic, he needs to stand up for her against the attacks. He felt guilty about letting her down and buys into the "you're trapped" theme that she is suggesting. He said he tried to educate William about this too so bought into this. She told him they need to present themselves in a different way in America and need to tell their side of the story so they are portrayed in a good light. Harry has risked a lot for Meghan and burnt bridges so I hope it works out for him.

But Meghan is very blind to their entitlement, hypocrisy and to the normal British public and I don't think she thinks or knows about how things work in relation to this as she's American. Thinking it was sweet to get married before the wedding- not realising that would piss people off. Moaning about loosing security paid for by the British tax payer- not thinking that would piss people off too. Being patrons of mental charities and saying they were embarrassed to speak out and didn't know what to do- not thinking how this looks to an outsider. Saying she's not into titles and grandeur- whilst complaining that Archie doesn't have a title and wanting security and designer dresses/jewels/private jets etc- not thinking how hypocritical this looks.

I think she got a lot more out of it than him. He's potentially lost his family.
