Where was it reported about the money, if they win, going to charity? There’s already substantial costs involved so will these be deducted from any money won, with the remainder being donated?

The damages will be a minimal token amount whereas the court costs will be millions. Even if Meghan wins everything from here, she has already paid more to ANL for their court fees for the pre trial hearings she hasn’t won, than she would gain in damages.

It’s good that the damages will benefit but really she could have issued a statement of denial, revealed the full letter since she says the Mail distorted and edited what she said, and given millions to charity instead. That would have been a far better look.

If MM wins, then AN would have to pay for MM legal fees - from my understanding, including re-embursing the ones MM supposedly 'lost' in pre-hearings. Then a judge would conclude the exact amount to be awarded. So a lot would go to charity.

So, your 'disappointment' of the Sussexes means that you would rather a newspaper break the law and get away with it, than have MM win straightforward law, and subsequently a big pay check going to a charity.

For what reasons ? Privilege ? You surely are well aware that Viscount Rothermere is worth £19 billion and does not pay tax to this country, as he has his money offshore, so do the Barclays brothers. They then had the nerve to furlough their employees, then made us the taxpayer pay millions to rescue their lying newspapers.

The average Joe cannot afford to sue newspapers, so they regularly smear and lie about people. We have put out lots of examples on these threads.If MM wins, it's another step in the direction that these papers are not above everyone. I hope no one you know ever becomes their victim.

Personally I have more faith in our justice system in the UK. I believe that if AN are judged to have broken the law, they will not get away with it.

I don't think anyone would want judgement given based upon the size of a potential pay cheque for charity.

The closest I can get is the quote from the Guardian: A spokeswoman for Prince Harry said: “The duke was awarded a significant sum towards damages and legal fees, which will be put towards a donation to charity and covering the duke’s legal costs” and after all we know neither the amount of the payout nor what the legal costs came to

If AN has broken the law they won't "get away with it" - that's the point of the case - to decide if the law has been broken. The opinion of posters here is irrelevant to that.

I don't personally care what the outcome is. I'm interested that MM chooses to take legal action over some stories and not others which suggests to me they are more concerned with controlling the narrative than justice being done.

Even though Will and Kate are currently working to promote the David Attenborough made by and airing on.... drumroll Netflix!

I do hope Harry didn’t state in the first place that the damages would go to charity because for only some to be given, would be really disappointing. I find his spokesman is often quite vague and evasive, which makes me wonder what he is trying to hide in order to get good PR.

The posters on these threads are not responsible for press reporting They are stating their own opinions about both Meghan and Harry.

In general I would say that K & W get a better press because they are doing a decent job of fulfilling their responsibilities whereas M&H have flounced off to make some money off the back of their titles.

I don't blame them from wanting to step back from public life but they wouldn't have the opportunities they do if it wasn't for H being a member of the RF.

That’s exactly how it looks which isn’t a good look at all. Let’s just hope at the time of the statement a miscalculation hadn’t happened which meant the legal fees were in excess of the damages so no charity donation was made.

In fairness to Harry, he wouldn't be the first person to have won some sort of payout, only to find it was wiped out by legal costs

I don't pretend to know the circumstances of this particular case, but it was stated as a fact that the payout "went to charity" so I'd like to know where that fact came from

I have to say though, thank god for this distraction from Covid...................
