It does feel like they keep doing things to put themselves in the headlines. I mean, no one is forcing them there.

I am sure if they had just done their leaving without a website or court case or via Canada or charity visits or videos or reality show there would have been much less to write and talk about

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 10:19

I was born in the 90s but have heard seen some of the Fergie headlines.
Charles paid for some fantastic PR to make many change their minds about Camilla and she has had pretty good press since she married in.

@GetOffYourHighHorse you haven't seen the show (and you wouldn't like it anyway), you probably haven't read the book and they didn't write it and were not interviewed.

Alexandernevermind · 28/09/2020 10:20

The Netflix turn of events is awful. I cannot believe they are doing a Kardashian style show. How undignified.

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 10:22

People and companies are making so much money from discussing them. It won't stop, even if there are no information.

The Sun found out about them leaving and gave them 10 days to reveal (as said by Dan), hence the website being rolled out before time.

slithytoveisascientist · 28/09/2020 10:23

As has been said many times, Camilla kept her head down and ignored the shitty headlines. By focusing on her role, the shit went away.

H&M could have done that. However it seemed that on some of really positive opportunities, they made them negative. Africa was a big one.

@Royalinsider there was no need for a website though. That’s rather the point.

Right now they are being talked about for reasons they create. There wouldn’t be that interest if they weren’t constantly putting news out there.

Same as there isn’t constant coverage of the other royals.

They have said they weren’t interviewed For the book in a very carefully worded statement.

However they have not said they (or one of them) didn’t provide information, and the authors have confirmed talking to H&M.

So someone is being disingenuous.

slithytoveisascientist · 28/09/2020 10:27

Edit to the above - by someone is being disingenuous I meant H&M or the authors, not you @Royalinsider

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 10:30

However it seemed that on some of really positive opportunities, they made them negative. Africa was a big one.
What were the other positive opportunities they made negative?
The Africa tour was overshadowed but still positive, the documentary aired after.
They have had excellent projects, looked at what needed to be done, came up with a solution and got excellent results - in a way that other royals haven't.
Meghan has that great American ability of showing an organisation how to make some money so that they can support themselves. So much more important than a photo opportunity. She will be a big loss.

SunbathingDragon · 28/09/2020 10:31

Going back to the difference in terms of negative headlines etc with Diana/Fergie/Camilla etc and Meghan, I think there is also a lot to be said with the increased popularity with the internet and social media in particular. I really don’t think it’s comparable to look at headlines from today when there are far greater numbers of media outlets than back in say the mid 80s when Fergie (which I well remember being called the Duchess of Pork) married. One thing I would hope we can all agree is that the media hasn’t treated anyone who has married into the RF overly well with the women in particular getting plenty of negative headlines. Clicks will keep Meghan in the headlines and that’s too valuable for the media to ignore.

JaJaDingDong · 28/09/2020 10:32

Checking in. Thanks for new thread.

Oldbutstillgotit · 28/09/2020 10:35

@ SunbathingDragon I agree it seems to be the women who are attacked . The only man I remember being slightly mocked was Mark Phillips who - allegedly- was nicknamed foggy by the RF as he was thick and wet !

Not always their positive opportunities but two things that immediately spring to my mind is the pregnancy announcement at E&J’s wedding. Then the public announcement on International Pregnancy and Baby Loss Awareness Day. From a physical point of view, Meghan did not look pregnant and it would have been tactful to have delayed revealing her pregnancy. (I do admit that having had a baby die neonatally that I am very sensitive about this but I’m also involved with several charities and groups that support families in similar situations and whilst many may have been in the lucky position to be unaware of the unnecessary hurt choosing this day caused, I was well aware of it. They also have many PR people who would/should have known better).
slithytoveisascientist · 28/09/2020 10:35

I think another one was their recent charity visit where they weren’t social distancing.

Or when they were petulant about the Queen and the word royal.

I have also read Philip had lots as well, although they were well before my time. Mike had some headlines about his drinking and an evening involving another woman in Australia but I can’t think of anything else for the men. Admittedly, fewer men have married in but I don’t think it’s as simple as that. I do think women in general are attacked more by the media.
slithytoveisascientist · 28/09/2020 10:38

Yes the baby announcement was another big one.

Then all of the coincidentally timed announcements once they had left Britain, which accidentally clashed with the royals.

It feels as though they spoil their opportunities. Again Africa was a big one because look at how it was remembered.

Same for pregnancy announcement. If that was a stand alone event it would be remembered for the right reasons.

creamorwhite · 28/09/2020 10:38

It's very hypocritical of them to say they want privacy and then to sign up for a Netflix reality show. Also they want to showcase their charity work - I thought the point of charity work was not to get praise and recognition but to do it as a selfless act? They could have stayed in the RF and showcased charity work for the queen there! All seems tacky.

Oldbutstillgotit · 28/09/2020 10:38

@Royalinsider I have read most of the book ( pretty dire writing) and agree that that H and M did not write it . I will also accept that they were not interviewed.
However for so much personal detail ( HM’s bath time on the Royal Train) information must have been passed over . Is it beyond the realms of possibility that a diary / notebook was casually left somewhere ?

Oldbutstillgotit · 28/09/2020 10:40

@ creamorwhite I agree . My DC didn’t know until recently that I help at a local Foodbank! They only found out when one phoned DH as I hadn’t answered my phone .

Seems they only care about privacy until money is involved.

SwordfishShashlik · 28/09/2020 10:54

I can’t wait for those head and shoulders vox interviews on TOWISussex.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 28/09/2020 11:09

'you haven't seen the show (and you wouldn't like it anyway), you probably haven't read the book and they didn't write it and were not interviewed.'

Oh pull the other one. 'Not interviewed' does not equal not involved or did not contribute.

Of course I haven't read their tabloid trash book but I did see the excerpts in the media. Just crass, childish whines.

I'll watch the show, they are nothing if not the gift that keeps on giving as they continue to make fools of themselves. Sadly, for the rest of his family.
