Harry and Meghan News thread

I thought we could have a thread for latest news. MN did say they didn't mind one or two threads. And no rules except stick to MN guidelines. It's Meghans birthday today I just read. And the Queen has wished her a very happy birthday on the royal Instagram page according to that popular Oracle the DM.

I don’t think MM is vile ( why do I only ever see that word on MN?) however I do think some of her ( and H’s) behaviour has been questionable.

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 15/08/2020 20:51

She's not vile at all, that is incredibly mean. She does try to do much good, i just think she project's herself as very up herself, and thinks she's more important than she actually is, and just because many people here are questioning the way she projects herself, does not make her vile at all.

For some reason my mumsnet app doesn't allow me to post photos for some reason, otherwise I would've shared some of my favourite snippets.

StartupRepair · 15/08/2020 22:50

I felt both sick and unsatisfied after I finished reading, as if I had had mountains of fairy floss instead of dinner.

Catsup · 15/08/2020 22:55

I also don't think she's 'vile', I think that's pretty harsh towards someone whose not actually done any harm to anyone. And whilst PH might be a bit of a 'nice but dim Tim' nobody twisted his arm up his back to marry her! (including MM 😂). I believe they definately think they're more than what they actually are. And I think it'll eventually dawn on them 'they ain't all that!' amongst the real movers and shakers of the US. But maybe they don't actually care? Tbf if I had that much money I'd possibly brazen it out and not give a shiny shit either 😂

SunbathingDragon · 15/08/2020 22:59

I wonder why MN isn’t mass deleting everyone’s posts now.

Those excerpts from the book are nauseating. How can anyone write like that and not only keep a straight face but then go on to admitting to be the author? Grin

I have no idea, there's some pretty awful ones on here

LittleBearPad · 15/08/2020 23:11

She isn’t vile. I’m not a fan but she’s not vile.

Tbh I think Harry is far more at fault for not managing her expectations better and for not preparing her pre-wedding but I genuinely think he thought she’d run away if he did as Chelsy and Cressida did.

I really do hope they are happier in the USA but I don’t need the videos or preaching and would like them to find contentment and a proper private role in their (massive) house.

Roussette · 15/08/2020 23:17

Gosh, sometimes I feel a bit (in)famous, people hanging on my every word! Grin

She's not vile and I hope they find contentment too! Good luck to them as other posters have said here and elsewhere. Smile

Welcometothelifeboatparty · 15/08/2020 23:27

No I don't think she's vile either. Just very deluded and increasingly irrelevant as time goes on now she and Harry have removed themselves. I agree she didn't understand what her role would be, and her place in the royal pecking order. Also, and this is the kicker, the need to earn (not expect) public respect.

CallmeAngelina · 15/08/2020 23:48

I absolutely agree that they are not vile people. But I do think that they have massively mis-judged things. They will not return to the UK, partly because they won't want to, but also because the British public on the whole is done with them.

YgritteSnow · 15/08/2020 23:50

She's not vile. She's just incredibly self absorbed and so is "H". It's tiresome. I marvel at their lack of awareness tbh. Sometimes I wonder if it's part of some big plan because they know that being contentious means everyone is talking about them so their profile remains high and them relevant.

YgritteSnow · 15/08/2020 23:52

Her hair in that video reminded me of Charles II hair. All long and bumpy looking. I'm sure that wasn't the intention though Grin

StartupRepair · 16/08/2020 00:04

I don't think she's vile. I think she is a product of celebrity culture and personal branding and that makes for a massive cultural clash.

Catsup · 16/08/2020 00:10

But to be fair may be they are hoping to brand themselves like the Beckhams, and be independently wealthy without being reliant on the public purse? If that's the case then fair play to them! I'm not going to lose sleep at night if their 700k public speaking fees are funded by a company prepared to pay it vs my taxes 😁. And tbf the 'Beckhams' would never have been who they are without Victoria putting her boot up David's arse, and quite rightly telling him to stfu in public! Maybe MM is looking to play for the financial end game for them both as a couple? PH has frankly never been known for his educational accolade's (bless him!).

Andylion · 16/08/2020 00:18

Her hair looks fine.

StartupRepair · 16/08/2020 01:03

It really annoys me her telling a global audience that her husband was not allowed to vote. He chose not to vote out of respect for his grandmother the monarch. The fact that Meghan doesn't understand this distinction shows why everything went so wrong.

KatherineParr4 · 16/08/2020 01:22

Exactly. Their backgrounds are completely diametrically opposed. Their value systems are utterly different. It was never going to work and it’s a car crash after just over two years. Harry is trying desperately to twist himself into any shape that fits to suit the situation he finds himself in. One day he will realise how very far he has drifted from shore and there will be no way back. I fear he will then drown.
Catsup · 16/08/2020 02:14

But would he even have an actual valid opinion on which way to vote? In the nicest possible sense NASA ain't calling any time soon? 🙄 MM by comparison seems to have a lot to say about everything... But is any of it actually that relevant? I think they just need to pootle along with their choice to distance themselves from the RF, and live their best lives in the US. Hopefully they have a very happy time doing it. When Archie is old enough he may form a UK/US RF bridge and it may set a different view, moving forwards? But the bottom line is if his parents want to be 'celebs', then fair play to them! They won't be the first or last in this generation to aspire to be 'stars'.

SunnyDayatSiestaBeech · 16/08/2020 06:29

I think Harry is being set up in the book too. So much talk about his 'rage' and the fact that he is angry all the time. Not the image of Harry that the world had before he met Meghan. He is portrayed as the family member who everyone had to talk down or walk on eggshells with, reading offence where none is intended and taking everything massively personally. Meghan is portrayed as his saviour.

They really do view themselves as absolute superstars. There is a passage about where they attended the theatre and due to traffic, they had to jump out of the car and walk. They were joking about how how all the unsuspecting public would have been in star struck awe if they knew who was in their presence. How when they handed their tickets at the door, the theatre worker was stunned into silence when he realised who he was looking at, before whisking them to the VIP section. Yes the book does make it clear they were seated in the VIP section. This information could have only come from them.

thecatsthecats · 16/08/2020 10:14

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned that Archie is nicknamed "bubba" by the couple. Netmums is that way, H.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 16/08/2020 10:50

I think MM is fairly articulate (in terms of presentation if not content), fairly bright, very driven, and very attractive. That's a combination which can take you far in life. And then if you a marry a prince, it's like jackpot!! And that combination in the royal family could have made them real assets, for the 'good' they want to do.

But, she/they have mistaken this for some inherent amazingness about themselves as a couple.

Their downfall is their ego.

Harry is impressed by her looks, drive (to 'do good' as he's dim enough to think this is a goal in itself) and her articulate ability, as he will be aware that he's punching above his weight in all those categories. So he's swept along in the narrative she's driving. Not because she's 'vile' but because she's the brighter of the two. It also fits with his persecution beliefs around the media, created from his mothers death.

But she's not that bright, or really articulate in terms of content, or a good strategist, as it's all a disaster for them (with the British Public at least) and such a missed opportunity for the roles they could have created within the establishment if they's given it time and effort.

SunbathingDragon · 16/08/2020 10:52

Their downfall is their ego.

100% and without it, they had so much potential.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 16/08/2020 10:56

With her hair: I think she's going or a more relaxed 'beachy Californian' look, which might fit with the general style she's now wearing if we could see the overall look.
A shift away from the more styled and glossy look required in the royal family.

I don't blame her, I love that beachy relaxed SoCal look. I wish she were out and about being papped so I could see the clothes that go with it. I love a bit of celeb style watching.
Doesn't make them money though...

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 16/08/2020 11:01

Doesn't make them money though
It does if she contacts the photographers and editors she has on speed dial. Plus payments from designers/stores for wearing their brands and getting them publicity.
