Harry and Meghan News thread

I thought we could have a thread for latest news. MN did say they didn't mind one or two threads. And no rules except stick to MN guidelines. It's Meghans birthday today I just read. And the Queen has wished her a very happy birthday on the royal Instagram page according to that popular Oracle the DM.

Good looks are very fleeting. Some manage to hang on to them into late middle and even old age. Cher is one. A lot don't and that presents many difficulties for the person. It's hard to know how this is going to end. They could be a massive success on the world stage or a massive failure. Or they could do something completely different again.

Their backgrounds are completely diametrically opposed. Their value systems are utterly different. It was never going to work and it’s a car crash after just over two years. Harry is trying desperately to twist himself into any shape that fits to suit the situation he finds himself in. One day he will realise how very far he has drifted from shore and there will be no way back. I fear he will then drown

Precisely this

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 16/08/2020 11:33

They have a dichotomy. They need to remove themselves from the gossipy victim narrative and try to build a profile based on skill and experience.
But the only reason they have a high profile is because of the RF.
They've created their own vicious circle where they need to trade on their royalty but their association with that royalty is enmeshed in negativity, victimhood and injudicious secret-spilling. None of which are public traits of high profile, serious influencers/philanthropists/politicians.

Today's snippets. The theatre page PP mentioned which leads into her first meeting with Kate. and the part where it's reveled Kate came up with the Heads together campaign but Harry made it a success

The book was written by British ‘authors’ wasn’t it? It was published here wasn’t it? So why are the spellings and all the references American?

Thanks for posting Windsorblues but I’m not sure how I enlarge the picture in order to read. Any ideas?

Welcometothelifeboatparty · 16/08/2020 12:12

@caringcarer 😳 that's really shocking!!!!!!

Eaumyword · 16/08/2020 12:13

Windsor blues, thanks heaps for sharing.
The biggest sentence that jumps out from those pages is 'they knew the entire world wanted to see them together'. No self esteem issues there!Shock
I dislike their behaviour immensely at times and that they didn't immerse/extricate themselves appropriately in the RF.
I think M would do well to become an instagram 'influencer' and drop the royal connections entirely. I've always thought she is a stylish woman.
Whilst a bit pompous at times, The Tig was actually quite interesting for me (had to google whose was and found it then.)
It's the earnest videoing of themselves as the Duke and Duchess, speaking about various politically charged matters that grates on me. Just smacks of having your cake and eating it - keeping the titles, the kudos and the money, but not abiding by the RF protocols.
It would be better at this stage to strike out completely on their own and then they can do/say much more.

Marlboroughdreams · 16/08/2020 12:16

@caringcarer

I have now read that Travelyst, that H has 75 Of shares in and H claims is not for profit but is not registered as a charity has in its Articles of Association that Travelyst can purchase property that may be convenient to company and share holders. Money from Princess Diana charity, from Royal Foundation were transferred to Travelyst and now Daily Express claims money from Travelyst used to pay deposit on H and M new house. Because Travelyst not registered as a charity it can't be regulated as such despite H claiming it is a not for profit organisation. It seems money donated to a charity has ended up feathering H and M nest as a deposit. There would be no need for this as they have millions of their own money they could use.
If money from a charity/charities has gone into Travalyst, it doesn't matter what Travalyst is - the money can still be regulated if you see what I mean. If this is the case, the Charity Commission would be very very interested.
Eaumyword · 16/08/2020 12:17

Caringcarer. Is that a fact? If so, that would be beyond shocking and disgusting. Surely it can't be. Can it?!

I've seen some people talk about this being proof Kate smokes?

Without opining at all as to whether or not she does, this seems to me the flowery language equivalent of a back of a fag paper plan (ie the type of plan Williamson has been coming out with this week re mocks and the triple lock). It isn't actually written on the back of a fag paper.

I just click the image then it enlarges on my device.

Wow, sounds like they had the experience of a life time in that cottage in Norway. In fact it sounds like they have had multiple experiences of a life time, almost weekly, with pretty much every person who enters their orbit doing their utmost to please them and enhance their lives in any way they can. Then there's the unlimited funds and never ever having to worry about how much to spend on the weekly shop or not buying any clothes for two years because you've got small kids who outgrow their stuff so quickly and you, the adult can just make do with what you've got.

What a pair of whinging, whining spoilt brats! I am disgusted by them and can't understand how anyone can defend them.

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 16/08/2020 12:32

Carolyn is American. Omid is British. The book definitely seems geared towards the American market rather than the British one.

@caringcarer I can't see any newspaper claiming that charity funds were used to pay for the house. Do you have a link? The Daily Express specifically states they didn't use charity funds for this house but that they think they could be used for future properties. Tbh from the detail they have posted, they just seem to be trying to stir up controversy. Companies and charities can buy properties for their work ie offices/centres/accommodation, etc. That isn't an issue.
The issue here is whether charitable donations should have been transferred to Harry's not-for-profit. But I imagine the RF lawyers and accountants wouldn't have authorised it if it wasn't above board.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 16/08/2020 12:35

I agree. I'd be interested in what she wears. I may even pass the time to look at her stylish house/ exercise routine/ friends and party planning etc/ what a lovely So Cal life looks like.
(Yes I am shallow and bored sometimes). I'd probably watch a reality TV thing if they followed them about Grin I'm a sucker for enjoying seeing how others live!

It would certainly grate less than seeing her lecture the world on 'issues' from her mansion in a vague incomprehensible way.

They're not going to do that though are they? It would be beneath them. As they want to bring about 'good' through telling people what they should do whilst not doing it themselves.
Not a good plan.

Eaumyword · 16/08/2020 13:27

Marlborough dreams, you're right, it's a phrase we used to use a lot in the office 'fag packet management' or 'wrote it on the back of a fag packet', meaning we came up with the idea on an adhoc basis.

SunnyDayatSiestaBeech · 16/08/2020 13:38

But who says 'write on a fag packet' anymore- virtually no one as hardly anyone smokes now (and you would be writing over the image of someone with half a lung and black toes which is hardly Inspirational) and it is out of tone with the rest of the book which references yoga, smoothies and wellness at every opportunity. I think it was a way if pointing out Kate smokes. A way of undermining her clean cut image without being so bitchy as to say it out loud.

Thanks for the extracts Windsor. I am listening to the audio that Omid reads himself- never eye rolled so much in my life

Eaumyword · 16/08/2020 13:44

Haha, that's very true! I'm referring to my law office 16yrs ago! So it might be a veiled reference to smoking?

Marlboroughdreams · 16/08/2020 13:44

I would say it is a metaphor that is still in use, regardless of how prevalent smoking is in society.

And in my opinion it is used to put down Kate and praise Harry - Kate has this random idea one day, and said "hey guys, why don't we do this?!" And then Harry put in all the work.

TheCraicDealer · 16/08/2020 13:45

We use the fag packet thing at work, and I'm early thirties. BUT I do agree it sounds like an secondhand anecdote related by someone who doesn't understand the term (US?) and took it literally to mean it was actually written on a pack of smokes.

Marlboroughdreams · 16/08/2020 13:45

Again, not saying Kate does or doesn't smoke, and maybe it has a number of purposes - " look, Kate smokes, and Harry did all the work!!"
