Harry and Meghan News thread

I thought we could have a thread for latest news. MN did say they didn't mind one or two threads. And no rules except stick to MN guidelines. It's Meghans birthday today I just read. And the Queen has wished her a very happy birthday on the royal Instagram page according to that popular Oracle the DM.

The page 6 article makes an interesting point about MM's attitude to meeting the Queen. Diana, despite her blue blood and close family connections, was 'sh:;@ng' herself while M so greatly charmed Her Maj that their first meeting over ran. Hmm
I'm really starting to wonder if MM is a narcissist.

Oldbutstillgotit · 15/08/2020 12:52

A friend bought FF and passed it to me last night . The more I read the more I am convinced that MM has fed the authors with the information . Not so sure about H’s involvement so would be interested to know his immediate reaction especially to the criticism of Catherine .

KatherineParr4 · 15/08/2020 12:59

Its easy to read on Kindle and then return for a refund within two weeks. I am absolutely convinced she gave her diary to Scooby.

How can the Tiara trauma last 6 and half pages!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/08/2020 13:03

Edward rather misfired a number of times, then went quietly into the duller, worthy duties and he (and especially his Countess) are now reliable and popular workhorses

I have to admi I've never quite understood this. Edward's been good for practically nothing except making royal documentaries (and then mainly because of his inside track) and Sophie's done little except run a company into the ground and shout her mouth off to dubious "reporters"

Basically they've been given a huge house and regular pay-off in return for keeping quiet and cutting ribbons ... nice work if you can get it maybe, but not what I'd expect anyone with integrity to aspire to

Fine - but that’s what being royal is - it’s turning up in Kidderminster when it’s raining to open a new arts centre, drinking a tepid cup of tea and making small talk with the local great and the good.

That’s the trade off for the houses and tiaras.

WinnieTheW0rm · 15/08/2020 13:20

Keeping quiet and cutting ribbons is exactly what I meant by the duller worthy duties.

Things they do often go unreported, but they are still valuable. For example the Countess's trip to South Sudan barely had a mention in the mainstream media

royalcentral.co.uk/uk/wessex/the-countess-of-wessex-marks-international-womens-day-on-her-historic-visit-to-south-sudan-138825/

"The Countess of Wessex is the first member of the Royal Family to visit South Sudan which was recognised as a sovereign state in 2011. Her trip focused on issues related to the rights of girls and women and co-incided with International Women’s Week. On International Women’s Day in 2019, the countess detailed her commitment to the UK’s efforts in the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative and during her time in South Sudan she has met survivors as well as those offering them support.

"During her time in the country, Sophie has also met female politicians and discussed ways to bring more women into politics as well as ensure greater female participation at the ballot box. She has also met men working to bring greater gender equality into their local communities as well as meeting military personnel who are involved in outreach programmes supporting security for all"

Me too, and I don't think he even bothered to edit some of it, just reproduced it, because Harry did not 'graduate high school' and London doesn't have a zip code.
StartupRepair · 15/08/2020 13:28

The editing was very poor. For example describing Dubbo as a state in Australia.

MissEliza · 15/08/2020 13:44

Not what I'd expect anyone with integrity to aspire to. What should someone with integrity aspire to? A £20 m (second) wedding? A loan of a fabulous diamond tiara? A rent free Californian mansion? Your father in law to fund your lifestyle. All of that in return for..... ingratitude.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/08/2020 14:45

What should someone with integrity aspire to?

A role that they've earned for themselves perhaps?

To be clear I fully agree that the "keeping schtum and ribbon cutting" is the usual RF role, but my point here is that we'd been invited to believe that Edward and Sophie were going to be "modern working royals" ... except that when it came to it, they couldn't run a whelk stall

Granted they're now making a pretty decent fist of the ribbon cutting, but after what went before they don't have much choice

BabyItsAWildWorld · 15/08/2020 14:47

All of this 'I will be able to use my voice now' guff!!

Yes I'm sure she wasn't able to post every 'inspirational' right on thought she had to instagram, and had to have discussions with courtiers about planning their work, but that's because it was WORK!!

But what the total pair of twits seem to have missed was that if they'd stuck with the work they could have found a pathway to develop really important work over time. But that would have meant slowly developing their links and investment in an area, building a reputation for interest and support over time which would give them credibility in that area. And working with the experts in that area to use their profile over time to highlight and develop projects.

Like the DoE did with the Dof E scheme. Or Prince Charles has done with model towns and architecture and The Princes Trust (whihc is amazing!). Or the way Kate is developing a personal focus early childhood development. Or princess Di did with AIDS and then land mines.

These have all felt personal, genuine, and have been developed over time.

This pair of numpties gave themselves no time to find their thing, develop their reputation and credibility, and instead just want to keep popping up and spouting off about things they think.

Well you're not a royal, it's not your job, you're not an expert, so why the hell should we care about your opinions on anything now??

It's such an opportunity squandered. They could have been great.

Civilians simply cannot understand how traumatic it is not to get the tiara one had set their heart on, hence 6 and a half pages of heart rending pain and 'noise'!Smile

That’s what I think too, only that level of drivel could come from her diary.
Catsup · 15/08/2020 15:29

But to be honest MM cannot realistically ever expect anyone to belive the guff that she happened to inadvertently walked into a 'blind date' relationship with someone who if he wasn't a Prince, she'd basically have wrote off as an 'semi illiterate, ginger haired, country bumpkin'. To give MM her dues she's actually gained a degree and climbed her (low level) greasy pole way up into celebdom. PH has by contrast fluffed his A levels with all the private schooling avaliable chucked at him, and made an arse of himself whenever the Palace HR hasn't quashed it... I'm sure they'll thrive together to as possibly very unfulfilled equals.

Viviennemary · 15/08/2020 15:39

So does the book say which tiara she wanted.

It wasn’t that she didn’t get the tiara she wanted but that Angela Kelly HMQs dresser ignored phone calls from H or was otherwise very slow to arrange a fitting/ hair rehearsal. H took umbrage and told on AK to HMQ.

Interesting article in DM by Richard Kay about FF’s claims that Trevor wasn’t a supportive husband to MM. wonder if TE will retaliate ?

Catsup · 15/08/2020 15:53

So how will it all work moving forward? Yes, yes PH & MM are (young) parents paving their way to a new future. But what happens in regards to Archie, and his children, and their children? Does the UK foot the security bill until the end of time for future gens in the US now?

WinnieTheW0rm · 15/08/2020 15:59

I do hope he does no such thing. His silence has been admirable.
AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 15/08/2020 16:02

I don't know why people keep describing MM as young, she's 39 now, 35 when they met on that blind date. Not old, but not what I'd class as a young person either, especially in Hollywood (FWIW, I'm 35 as well and would not describe myself as young and fresh faced like she is frequently described as in the book. Kate is younger the Meghan)

BillieEilish · 15/08/2020 16:04

Gosh, I barely recognised MM today. In her video. She has changed completely since moving to America. I honestly thought she was someone else.

Glad they have a home at last, they can keep to themselves now and do the charitable work quietly.

Viviennemary · 15/08/2020 16:07

Trevor uncle has spoken out. Saying Trevor was very supportive and proud of Meghans success.

OP posts:
Oldbutstillgotit · 15/08/2020 16:09

@ WinnieTheW0rm completely agree however MM must be very confident about his on- going silence .

Catsup · 15/08/2020 16:10

MM's first hubby is re-married to an heiress to an absolute fortune! He's zero need to want or sell a bit of tabloid fodder.
