Harry and Meghan News thread

I thought we could have a thread for latest news. MN did say they didn't mind one or two threads. And no rules except stick to MN guidelines. It's Meghans birthday today I just read. And the Queen has wished her a very happy birthday on the royal Instagram page according to that popular Oracle the DM.

Camilla also has another link with the British Royal Family, her great grandmother Alice Keppel was the mistress of King Edward VIII.
Wrt the deleted thread the originator of the thread is a bit fierce about perceived slights towards the Duchess of Sussex.

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 09/08/2020 07:31

I dip in and out of these threads and because of that a lot of the rule changes pass me by.

Can someone make a list about what we are allowed to say?

The moderation on M&H threads is considerably more intensive on than on other topics.

It would appear that you can be as horrible as you like (and speculative) about other members of the royal family, particularly William and Catherine, but anything negative about H and M has to have come from a reputable source, like a judge.

lifestooshort123 · 09/08/2020 08:04

So we could have commented on her coat flicking to attract attention while pregnant
www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-6626987/Meghan-uses-clever-style-trick-baby-bump.html
And her saucy interview in a backless dress where she was compared to a hairless dolphin
www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5763787/Meghan-Markle-lets-bubbly-personality-resurfaced-Craig-Ferguson-interview.html
but we can't speculate on whether they are having another baby because there's no evidence?
OK, got it.

lifestooshort123 · 09/08/2020 08:06

.... except the DM is probably not a reliable source? Apologies.

Indeed and about many other celebrities too but not the Sussexes
ImAncient · 09/08/2020 09:07

Not forgetting the allegations from some that the judge is corrupt/biased. I fully expect to be deleted for this comment.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 09/08/2020 09:29

The judge seems eminently sensible and fair and has made some excellent judgements in notable previous cases.

Viviennemary · 09/08/2020 09:44

I agree that the judge has been sensible and fair in this case. I haven't heard of any other of his cases. Must look it up. Sad!

I’ve just been looking up the judge and past cases. Agree that he seems very sensible and fair. I think he has little patience for those using the court case for their own means or publicity, and I think Meghan is using the court case to get across various irrelevant points (even if they are struck out, she gets to publicly say them) whereas AN are all about gaining extra headlines and clicks. However, he’s clearly a good judge and a good judge isn’t biased by now exasperated they become with one or both sides.

What’s more, no matter what AN does, their reputation is such that the sort of behaviour is expected of them so I don’t think it will do any damage to them. Meghan, on the other hand, depending upon what is said, could struggle to come back from this (I’m basing this on the fact the judge has already publicly stated he believes she updated OS with private information about her case).

(ImAncient I know it wasn’t you who made the claims about corruption and being biased so this isn’t a reply to you).

Gonegrey31 · 09/08/2020 10:39

The judge has just been promoted to the Court of Appeal. Don’t know whether this means he will have yo hand the case over to someone else?

Viviennemary · 09/08/2020 10:42

The judge has also co-authored a book 'The law of Privacy and the Media' yours on Amazon for a mere £311. Shock or second hand copy a snip at £302. So he must know his stuff.

Going by their current performance, yes.

There was a discussion on another thread (I think on MN) and some knowledgable posters were certain he would continue with the case.
Madasahattersteaparty1749 · 09/08/2020 11:58

Can’t link from the Times but was reading this www.redonline.co.uk/red-women/news-in-brief/a33554606/princess-charlotte-teacher-marries-godfather/. I think this doesn’t support Harry’s snob accusation at William if he and Catherine played a part in the two dating. I can’t imagine a snob would match make his close friend and teacher.

Marlboroughdreams · 09/08/2020 12:06

Without making any comment on either the snobbery or lack there of of Prince William, or the background of the teacher in question, I know a number of teachers who are from rather grand families both with and without money, so it is entirely possible to be a snob and also encourage this match depending on the specific circumstances in this instance.

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 09/08/2020 12:09

Did someone actually accuse the judge of being corrupt Shock? Given that he has written a legal book and been promoted to the court of appeals that seems extremely unlikely?

To be honest, I am a bit surprised that this was allowed to stand on a MN thread in that case. That is surely defamatory ?

Am I understanding it correctly that we are not allowed to speculate on H&M, but we are allowed to write defamatory comments about a judge who is an expert in media law litigation? ShockShockShock

The thread where the accusation was made was deleted and the poster hadn't appeared in any H&M threads since.
Viviennemary · 09/08/2020 12:21

Yes I thought that was probably the case re the judge comments. I did a search and couldn't find much criticism of the judge. I think Meghan has a good case with the copyright is due as she under UK law retains the copyright of the letter. The privacy case is weak since her friends leaked the contents of the letter. Thats my take though Ive not written any legal tomes.

In my previous post it should say Edward VII not Edward VIII.

ImAncient · 09/08/2020 13:05

Thanks Sunbathing

Hippo quite I reported the allegations.

I couldn't believe someone would fly across the Atlantic to attend someone's wedding, then not invite them to their own wedding reception.
