I thought we could have a thread for latest news. MN did say they didn't mind one or two threads. And no rules except stick to MN guidelines. It's Meghans birthday today I just read. And the Queen has wished her a very happy birthday on the royal Instagram page according to that popular Oracle the DM.

I remember hearing a tenant praising Charles and his running of the Duchy

I've the greatest respect for the guy's right to his opinion, but let's face it - if they wanted Charles's cooperation with the programme they were hardly going to feature anyone who thought he's a tosser

SunbathingDragon · 08/08/2020 16:35

@myrtleWilson

I know it would never happen but it would be so interesting to have a completely off the record chat with Sophie or Kate about life as a newcomer to the RF. I would include Meghan in this fantasy off the record chat but I'm particularly interested in hearing from 'lifers' as it were...

Am not talking here about gossip or slagging off other members but what it is like to join the institution. I was thinking for those born into it, it must take considerable self awareness, strong friendship networks etc not to believe one's own hype etc. I wonder what its like to move from relative normality (albeit privileged normality) to the gilded cage of the RF.... Does it always seem hyper surreal or do you end up with an institutional take on Stockholm syndrome

Yes, this would be really interesting. Whilst people like Philip and Diana married in, their childhoods/former lives still weren’t really relatable to most people. However, Sophie and Kate (Autumn and Camilla as well) seemed relatively normal and still give the impression of being comparatively so.

So true! Grin

I think in the case of Camilla she came from a background a ;little closer to the nobility Her maternal grandfather was the third Baronet Ashcombe and she was a Debutante. So a bit more upper than middle class.

SunbathingDragon · 08/08/2020 17:13

Thank you meercat and I’ve just read up on Camilla (admittedly only on Wikipedia) as I really didn’t have any idea about her childhood. Completely agree with you now that she always has been upper class. Would still be good to have that chat with her as I think of all the RF, she’d be entertaining to enjoy a few gins with.

meercat23 · 08/08/2020 17:22

I definitely agree with that!

Viviennemary · 08/08/2020 17:34

I think Camilla had a nice childhood. I just googled it. She grew up in a lovely county house called the Laines in Sussex set in over 5 acres. It looks idyllic. Some photos on line. She lived the country life horses and dogs which she loves.

Me too, Sunbathing! Camilla looks like she doesn't take life too seriously (that wink to camera when meeting Trump?!) and I like her approach to keeping her own house so she can enjoy her grandchildren and a bit of normality (and gin and watching the racing with a blanket) at the weekends.
It seems the folks who've married in have more success at 'royalling' if they clearly separate out their public persona/work role and private life, but it does take time for them to settle in and the women all receive criticism at times and particularly at first. The rite of passage seems to be to stay quiet even if you must want to refute certain things and eventually you are accepted. Camilla is the masterclass at this.
It's all deeply odd, but the RF as an institution seems wrongly entitled and unequal these days to me anyway.

Oh I definitely would be interested in that.

Just read it. It's all playing out exactly as the critics said it would. Harry has been incredibly stupid Sad

I think this needs to be brought up on site stuff IMHO.

was scrolling through Twitter and saw @hendopolis tweeting as he normally does #tomorrowspaperstoday and this stood out for me - how stunning does Princess Anne look - and how much like (this is getting a bit meta) Vanessa Kirby playing Margaret in The Crown...

Wolfgirrl-ooh!
What a fantastic photo of Anne, is that really her? Her hair is fabulous and she looks very Vogue. Yes to the Vanessa Kirby playing Margaret look - also exquisite.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/08/2020 23:09

For photos of Anne, I always think we'd go a long way to beat the old Vogue Cover
Okay it'll have been airbrushed to death, but still ...

I really didn’t understand quite why.

The deletion message said something about nearly every post breaching TGs, is high was baffling.

I feel like I’ve missed a couple of key chapters of the Meghan Moderation story.

Oh my word I've just read the deletion message. What on earth are you allowed to say?

ArriettyJones · 08/08/2020 23:29

I’ve been reading a Lady Colin C book about Diana on kindle.

This snippet about Juan Carlos is funny with the knowledge we now have. It also illuminates Queen Sophia’s attitude to his shenanigans.

I love the picture of Anne in the Sunday People.
